    • The extortionists used an Oracle vulnerability and vishing tactics to compromise Wynn’s internal systems

A prolific data‑theft and extortion gang claims to have stolen 800,000 internal records from Wynn Resorts and wants at least $1.5 million in Bitcoin to prevent a leak, according to The Register.

The records reportedly include the full names, Social Security numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, job titles, salaries, start dates and birthdays of current and former Wynn employees.

ShinyHunters told The Register that it gained access to Wynn’s systems in September 2025 by exploiting an Oracle PeopleSoft vulnerability using an employee’s credentials. The group did not specify whether those credentials were stolen through social engineering or purchased from an insider.

ShinyHunters has increasingly relied on voice phishing, or “vishing,” to impersonate IT staff and trick employees into surrendering login credentials and multi‑factor authentication codes. This method mirrors the tactics used by Scattered Spider, the group responsible for the 2023 cyberattacks on MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment, which resulted in ransomware deployment, operational disruptions, and the theft of tens of thousands of customer records.

Multiple arrests followed in the US and UK, including the 2025 detention of a Las Vegas teenager linked to the casino hacks.

ShinyHunters, Scattered Spider, and the hacking collective LAPSUS$ are now believed to operate under a loose co-branded extortion identity sometimes referred to as Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters. Cybersecurity researchers emphasize that this is not a formal merger but a fluid collaboration among threat clusters that share infrastructure and techniques.

In addition to leaking its data, ShinyHunters has also threated Wynn Resorts with “several annoying problems that’ll come your way” if the company refuses to comply by deadline.

Wynn Resorts has not publicly confirmed the breach or responded to inquiries from multiple outlets.

  • Vegas Casinos Accept Canadian Dollars as US • This Week in Gambling

    [ad_1]

A group of prominent downtown Vegas casinos has announced a new initiative to accept the Canadian dollar at par with the American dollar. The promotion, which began this week and is scheduled to run through August 31, 2026, aims to reverse a sharp decline in international tourism from the north.

The three participating properties are Circa Resort and Casino, The D Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. Under the new At Par program, eligible Canadian visitors will receive one U.S. dollar in value for every one Canadian dollar spent on specific services. This move effectively removes the current exchange rate barrier, which has seen the Canadian dollar trading at significantly lower values than its U.S. counterpart.

According to Derek Stevens, CEO of the three Vegas casinos, the decision was driven by data showing a major drop in Canadian visitation over the past year. Industry reports indicate that Canadian travel to the city fell by approximately 20 percent in 2025, while airline seat capacity from Canada to Nevada decreased by roughly 30 percent. Stevens, who has personal ties to Canada, stated that the goal is to eliminate conversion stress and welcome back a demographic that has historically been the top international market for the region.

The program includes several components. Canadian guests staying at these properties will pay for their room rates in Canadian dollars at a one-to-one ratio at check-in. The offer also extends to beverage purchases at designated locations, including BarCanada at The D, Overhang at Circa, and Bar Prohibition at Golden Gate. Additionally, the casinos are offering a gaming incentive where Canadian players can redeem up to 500 dollars in Canadian currency for 500 dollars in slot promotional play.

To participate, guests must present a valid Canadian passport or government-issued identification to verify citizenship. The promotion is available to all Canadian travelers, regardless of whether they are staying at the participating hotels. Officials hope the financial advantage provided by the fixed exchange rate will encourage travelers to return during the busy summer season. As the tourism industry monitors cross-border travel trends, these Vegas casinos are positioning themselves as high-value destinations for international neighbors facing unfavorable currency markets.

  • Las Vegas Casinos Prepare for Work Stoppage

Las Vegas Casinos Prepare for Work Stoppage

    [ad_1]

As over 30,000 workers across Clark County prepare for a strike, the Las Vegas casinos which will be impacted by the stoppage are preparing for the worst. In an ominous sign of things to come, management at these resorts is making plans to keep their properties running in a “worst case” scenario.

Employees at MGM, Caesars, and Wynn properties are seeking a new, five-year contract before their November 10th deadline. Now, contingency plans are being implemented across the 18 Las Vegas casinos effected. This includes hiring new employees.

On the other side, the Union representing the workers is also making plans for a long fight. This includes setting up a strike fund for workers who walk the picket lines. Las Vegas Attorney David Edelblute, from the Howard and Howard firm, has worked with several Las Vegas casinos up and down the Strip, said that these plans are normally set up even as negotiations continue.

In an interview with the Review Journal newspaper, Mr. Edelblute stated that if history has taught us anything, it’s that with contingency plans in place, “…impacts to both sides will be less than the catastrophic,” no matter how the strike is being reported on social media.

Some people seem to believe that the resorts will be just fine if employees walk off their jobs, arguing that they became accustomed to working with fewer employees during Covid. What they fail to consider however, is that during Covid there were almost no tourists in town… and during the Grand Prix there will be over 100,000 extra visitors! So, good luck!.
