Mountain View High School’s jazz band was selected to perform at the Midwest Clinic, which is the country’s premier music education conference. The band was one of just five selected out of hundreds that auditioned.
“Midwest is one of the biggest band clinics in the nation,” Trumpet player Claire Hagele said.
Band director Sam Ormson says fundraising efforts to cover the roughly $37,000 trip are already underway.
“It is still a financial burden on those individual students,” Ormson said. “They’re working hard to do all of that.”
“It is such an honor that I want it to be possible for all these students (to go),” Ormson continued.
Hagele says the conference is a chance to showcase the hard work that has gone into that process.
“It just shows how much our program (can contribute) not only in the state, but the (country),” Hagele said.
More than 20 students and staff from Mountain View High will be on the big stage to perform between December 17th and 19th in Chicago.
