    If you’re not already familiar with Dieux, the brand’s other superstar moisturizer that was launched prior is Instant Angel ($45). This lipid-rich moisturizer is designed with dry skin in mind, but it’s also labeled as noncomedogenic, so you may still be able to use it if you’re prone to breakouts. I loved this formula, but I think it was slightly too rich for my skin and ended up causing a pimple or two. I was incredibly bummed but was ecstatic when the brand dropped a lighter version for us oily folks. The brand’s co-founder Charlotte Palermino loves them both equally. “My personal favorite is layering the two,” she shares. “Because Air Angel floods the skin with hydration, I treat it almost like a hydrating serum and lock it all in with Instant Angel. Normally, I do this at night, and I’m glowing when I wake up! If I had to choose between the two, Instant Angel is my favorite. That’s because I have dry skin, and Instant Angel doesn’t sit on the skin. It sinks in and really reinforces your barrier. The glowiest skin is always happy skin, and that’s what these two do.”

    Joyce de Lemos, cosmetic chemist and co-founder of the brand, gives us a bit more insight into Air Angel and what makes it really shine: “[It] was proven through clinical testing to hydrate and moisturize the skin for up to 12 hours after one application. Keeping the skin moisturized is important to maintaining a healthy and optimal lipid barrier function. Also, Air Angel was tested by people with self-perceived acne-prone skin, and it was found to be non-acnegenic and noncomedogenic.”

    De Lemos also shares a few more benefits and what makes Air Angel such a smooth operator. “While Air Angel provides the same hydrolipid blend as Instant Angel, the lipid level is lower, and therefore, the texture is less rich than Instant Angel,” she says. “It’s perfect for those who simply prefer gel-creams, live in more humid climates, or have oilier acne-prone skin types that need hydration but not necessarily the heavier level of lipids. For drier skin types, Air Angel can also work great as a hydrating serum to layer underneath Instant Angel.”

    What makes this satin formula different from the other lip products that you’ve launched in the past?

    What are your best practices for applying lipstick? Should you always wear a lip liner? Should you wear a lip balm underneath?

    You can pair SuperSatin Lipstick with my UltraSuede Sculpting Lip Pencil, especially if you’re trying to re-create my signature Lip Lift technique, but the formula works beautifully by itself if you want to skip the pencil step. Lately, I’ve been into a blurred/stained lip, so I start by using less lipstick to get the look.

    What advice would you give to someone new to wearing lipstick and trying to find the right shade for their skin tone?

    Start by finding a shade that resembles your natural lip color since no color will be more flattering than the one you were born with. This will be a perfect everyday go-to shade that looks good with everything. Most important, though, is choosing a shade that makes you feel good and that you find most flattering. I say let your intuition guide the process. You’re drawn to what you like for a reason.

    What’s your favorite shade in this collection?

    All the shades in this collection are special to me, but my absolute favorite is Bronx Baby. I grew up in the Bronx and wanted to name my favorite shade after the neighborhood I’m from. The shade reminds me of a soft, warm rose lipstick my oldest sister Vicky used to wear and is an easy, simple way to wear nude every day.

    Here’s the 411. We started by looking at other publications—Allure, Byrdie, Glamour, and many others. We created a master list of all the lip balms that were recommended. From there, we compared and color-coordinated the lists, looking at how often each lip balm was mentioned as well as its overall ratings and reviews on major beauty retailer sites.

    After all of this, we had our list narrowed down to a mere 10 lip balms. All that was left was to do our own testing, and we did. Each editor received the lip balms and was asked to test, rate, and review them. Once we had everyone’s responses, we assembled them into a document and ranked each lip balm according to the feedback. By the end, we had crowned the best one.

    What inspired you to create Stargloss?

    I love hair oiling before a wash, and I love a traditional hair mask, but sometimes you don’t want to sit in the shower for that last extra step. I wanted to create something that you could easily apply to dry hair. Think of it like hair oil plus a buttery mask combined—something you apply before you go work out, clean, get the kids off to school, go on a walk, whatever! Then you shower and wash like normal! The result is super-shiny, soft hair, as if you just got struck by a shiny shooting star. 

    What sets it apart from other popular hair treatments on the market?

    The format—I set out to do something completely different in the glossing and shine treatment category. I didn’t want to create another in-shower product, because I felt that would be too similar to a mask. I wanted something you could apply to dry hair before the shower, leave on for 20 minutes or longer (even overnight!), then shampoo and condition as usual. And OMG the results are amazing. Stargloss was born after many, many rounds and years of formulating to get it just right. It was not easy, but I would not give up!

    As far as the glitter, I always want the actual product to be gorgeous.     Despite the infatuation I had with Urban Decay’s Naked Palette in high school (The YouTube-beauty-guru hype got to me), I do not enjoy the experience of applying eye shadow. Despite buying multiple brushes, I still never have the right brushes when it’s time to do my makeup.     When I first decided to run the New York City Marathon, I had no idea what I was in for. I knew that training would entail long, grueling runs and working out most days in between, but I didn’t expect a lot of the challenges that come with it. I’m talking shin splints, trialing a million handheld water bottles, and tons of exhaustion. One thing I really wasn’t expecting? The chafing. 

    I’ve been a runner for a few years now, and I’ve run my fair share of half-marathons. Up until I started training for the full marathon, however, I’d never run more than a half-marathon, so I wasn’t sure how my body would react to longer distances. I’d never experienced much chafing on my runs, but once my milage started going up, I started chafing everywhere. I was getting chafed under my bra line, where my arms rubbed against my shirt, on my collarbones, and more. As the distances got longer, the chafing got worse—to the point where I would bleed. (I’ll save you the photographic evidence, but it was gnarly.)

    As you can imagine, I tried everything to stop the chafing. I tried two of the leading anti-chafe sticks, and while they helped a bit, I still had angry welts after every run. In desperation, I was slathering myself in Vaseline—a bit more helpful, but it was staining my running clothes. I was ready to give up and accept that I would probably just have scars on my body from this training time, but then I remembered that one of my favorite sensitive-skin brands, First Aid Beauty, had an anti-chafe stick.

    First, let’s talk about the application experience. The mask has a light, whipped texture that feels really nice on the skin. It does tingle a bit upon application, but it’s nothing too uncomfortable. Before I applied the mask, my skin was a bit red around my cheeks and nose. I’ve been dealing with moisture-barrier damage for the past year or so, and my skin has taken some time to recover. That’s why I’ve also been careful not to overdo it on masks that exfoliate or contain harsh ingredients. I love that Darden’s mask is great at clearing congestion with ingredients such as bentonite and kaolin clays. It doesn’t contain any BHAs or AHAs, so you can use this in place of exfoliating one or two nights a week. It even helps repair the skin barrier with hydrating ingredients like squalane. 

    After letting the mask sit for 15 minutes, I rinsed it off with warm water and noticed that the redness around my nose was gone instantly. A day later, I also noticed that the size of an inflamed pimple on my cheek had reduced significantly. I think I may have just found my perfect weekly face mask. Although I love trying new things, it’s nice to streamline my routine when I find something I really like, and this one is a winner! What’s also great about this mask is that it’s gentle enough for skin conditions like eczema. It can even help calm a lot of the redness and irritation that can come with it fast. I really appreciated that this mask didn’t dry my skin out at all. It does leave your skin looking matte thanks to the clay elements, but I never had that tight, dry feeling I usually associate with a clay-based mask. Overall, if you’re looking for a do-it-all face mask to add to your regular skincare routine a few times a week, I can’t recommend this one enough.

    Coming from the brand that produces the much-lauded Theragun, the TheraFace is as slick to use as you’d expect. With multiple attachments (the microcurrent device being one of them), I found it so easy to switch between them thanks to the seamless magnetic features. Plus, there are so many handy video tutorials on the brand’s dedicated YouTube channel that explain exactly how to use each attachment, which is helpful for a beauty-tool novice like me to watch on repeat. 

    The pros: To use the microcurrent tool, you add the required head to the device, apply a mask-like layer of the conductive gel (which comes included) to your face, set your strength (a nice feature that allows you to build up the current as you become more familiar and experienced with the feeling) and then follow the very clear and simple video instructions for guiding the device, which feels a lot like a facial massager, across the face. The whole process takes little more than five minutes, and you can repeat this every 24 hours. 

    As for what it feels like, honestly, the first time I used it I felt nothing at all. Worried I wasn’t doing it right, I turned up the strength, and even then, I only felt slight twinges on the skin where there was no conductive gel or where the gel had dried up, so I’d recommend applying liberally or in sections as you go to avoid this. 

    I didn’t notice any dramatic results after the first use, but there certainly weren’t any negative side effects or noticeable redness or irritation. After a week or so, though, there was definitely a feeling of having tighter, brighter skin in areas like the jawline and cheekbones, where I often would feel swollen or puffy, especially in the mornings. 

    The device is so easy to use. As I said, I’m a complete tool and beauty novice, and I found it effortless to use with the help of the guidance videos. I also loved how slick it was to use and how adding such an easy step to my evening routine came with actual results. You can also use it in the morning, but I found it so easy to do sat in front of the TV once I had the instructions down. 

    I loved that this wasn’t only a microcurrent device, and for your investment, you actually end up getting multiple different attachments that all target different concerns, from rejuvenating LED light therapy to cleansing rings and percussive facial massaging—all of which can cost a lot if you were buying them as individual devices alone. 

    All in all, if you’re looking for a do-it-all device that feels a little indulgent (i.e., it can help create that moment of much-needed self-care) but that’s also results-driven, TheraFace makes a smart investment. It works well both as an introductory, easy-to-use device that beauty novices will love and as an advanced tool that’s at the forefront of the industry with its technology and multiple attachments, so beauty obsessives will love to play around with its features too. 

    The cons: There’s not much to not like about the TheraFace device. Sometimes, there are twinges using the microcurrent attachment, which, if you’re nervous about it, can feel uncomfortable. But it’s momentary, and you can very quickly add more gel or turn the strength down accordingly. If you’re a traditionalist, it could also be a little frustrating to have to go online to find all the instructional videos, but I liked having the visual examples.

    Rating: 8/10 for the microcurrent tool but 9/10 overall for all the great attachments.

    My hair type: I have long hair, but it’s quite thin, which means it often sits limply past my shoulders and gets knotty very quickly. In general, I am really low-maintenance when it comes to haircare, especially as I don’t have any hair color in my hair. It should come as no surprise, then, that apart from a hair dryer (does that even count?) I own zero hairstyling tools.

    The Dyson Airwrap is my foray into the world of stylers, and I am pretty sure I massively lucked out when this landed on my desk. When it came to thinking about what tool might work best for me, I knew I needed something straightforward and ideally with very little room for error. I also wanted it to be lightweight, as the amount of hair I have ensured I would most likely be holding any styling device for a while.

    The pros: Over the testing week, I actually found the Airwrap really easy to use. Yes, the barrel tool took some getting used to, and I am certainly no pro at it, but overall, I picked it up quickly and found every other attachment really straightforward. They say practice makes perfect, and that is certainly the case with the Airwrap, but no more so in my opinion than if you’re trying to perfect a curl with a traditional tong. After watching a video or two, I got the hang of it, and then nothing could stop me in my quest for that perfect bouncy blowout. 

    At this point, it’s important to acknowledge that, yes, this styler is an investment. For the price, the Airwrap needs to be a tool that one reaches for frequently. I knew a big factor of this review would be whether the Airwrap is worth the price, and my honest answer is yes, it is. With eight attachments, including a dryer, round brush, and smoothing brush, you get a lot of bang for your buck here, all wrapped up in an extremely sleek-looking package, too.

    I love how the Airwrap easily smooths flyaways and makes my hair look sleeker and shinier in just a few minutes, but I was also really happy with the results of using the Airwrap’s curling barrel attachments and its iconic Coandă effect, which left me plenty of volume and a mass of bouncy curls. I brushed mine out, but I know lots of people who leave theirs as is. They did drop quickly, so I would go hard on the hair spray to ensure they last longer than a few hours. 

    I’d be remiss not to mention perhaps the biggest pull of the Airwrap here, and that’s the fact that it uses less heat than most hairstyling tools, which in turn means less heat damage. Of course, you should still use a heat protector, but in general, the use of lower heat means that there is less potential for damage, keeping your hair healthier.  

    The cons: In an ideal world, the Airwrap would be purse-friendlier, and this for me is its biggest drawback. I’m hoping the brand introduces a more affordable, compact version of the tool in the near future.

    My verdict: If you’re looking to invest, in my opinion, the Airwrap is worth the price tag. It’s easy to use, uses less heat than other tools on the market, looks great on your dressing table, and can help you achieve some amazing styles. Plus, it left my hair looking shinier and smoother, and both my partner and I used it nearly every single day as a hair dryer, too! Well done, Dyson. You’ve converted me.
