  • Dates Are Going Viral. Farmers Are Leaning In. Here’s Why

    [ad_1]

If you type “dates” into TikTok’s search bar, you’ll find plenty of ideas for a night of romance. You might also see a variety of recipes using the sweet, wrinkly, brown dried fruit. That’s because dates, the edible ones, are having a moment.

U.S. searches for “Medjool dates,” a particularly plump variety, hit a 20-year high in March of this year, according to Google Trends. And the searches aren’t just the result of a passing curiosity: Consumers are actually spending. U.S. retail sales of dates jumped about 30 percent in the 52-week period ending on July 13 compared with the year before, according to data from Circana, a market research firm. In 2024, sales increased nearly 19 percent over the prior year, Circana found. And over the past few years, dates have popped up as the hero in wellness-focused snacks.

“The Medjool is the Cadillac of dates,” said George Jeffrey, owner of Pacific Date Corporation, a grower, packer, and shipper of dates, as well as a snack manufacturer, based in Thermal, California. “It’s a pretty nice, large piece of fruit with a nice caramel flavor. And it’s having its day in the sun.” Last year, Pacific handled 17 million pounds of dates, said Jeffrey, seven million of them Medjools. Jeffrey expects growth next year. And recently, Pacific has decided to make date snacks of its own.

“We did a lot of co-manufacturing for other big date brands that were out there,” Jeffrey said, referring to contract manufacturing. “And we said, ‘Why are we doing that for everybody else? We should have our own brand.’” Sun Lovin’ Foods, which makes date-based energy bites in flavors like chocolate cherry and banana nut, launched in 2023. “It’s working very well,” Jeffrey said, noting that about 2,000 retailers are now carrying Sun Lovin’ snacks.

Jeffery is not the only farmer making the most of the fruit’s recent spike in popularity. Others, from small consumer-facing brands to players that operate behind the scenes, are marketing their own products and coming up with ways to keep the momentum going.

Their speed is “astounding to me,” says Jonna Parker, vice president of fresh foods at Circana, especially because farmers typically don’t do much marketing of their own products.

The demand means that some farmers are expanding, a welcome reversal from the national trend. “We’re going to expand on our facility here because we’ve outgrown it,” said Jeffrey. For Pacific, that means more equipment used to freeze and grade Medjools.

Meanwhile, Double Date Packing, a Medjool date grower in Coachella, California, has “been buying up ranches wherever we can,” says Hope Barbee, vice president of sales at the company. “We’ve been selling out of our fruit for the past two years straight.”

Dates are an ancient fruit with particular significance for Middle Eastern cultures. But that’s not why they’re going viral on TikTok. Foods that gain traction on social media often have a specific nutritional edge: Cottage cheese, for example, is packed with protein. Grapes are a low-calorie way to get your (natural) sugar fix. Dates are full of fiber, which is “one of the biggest trends right now,” Parker said. On social media, attempts to increase fiber intake have been dubbed “fibermaxxing,” and fibermaxxing recipes are readily available on TikTok.

The fruit has also become more visible as an ingredient in trendy packaged snacks. RX Bars, a protein bar company started in 2013, lists just a few ingredients prominently on its label, and dates are almost always among them. Over the past few years, companies like Date Better, Gato Dates, and Realsy have emerged with a focus on date-based snacks. Others, like Spring & Mulberry, are using dates to sweeten chocolate. Online, creators showcase date-heavy recipes for home-made versions of energy bars, caramels, candy bars, and more.

Rebecca Seitz, co-owner of the food and gifts retailer Sphinx Date Co. in Scottsdale, Arizona, suspects that social media has helped drive growth at her store, which specializes in dates. “They’re really simple recipes … just taking some dates and some nuts and making little energy bars,” she says. That’s “what makes it ideal for social media.” Over the past decade, Sphinx’s total sales have grown about 6.5 percent per year on average, Seitz says.

Sphinx Date Co. sells Medjool dates on their own and in gift trays or boxes. It also stocks less traditional products, like salsa and hot sauce made with dates as a sweetener. The goal is to “give an idea of the way you can use [dates] in savory applications,” said Seitz. “Lots of people come back for it,” she added. Items like that can be a boon for farmers, as well.

    Date paste and syrup

“People are seeing new opportunities to use dates,” said Kristy Kneiding, manager of the state-run California Date Commission. That means “growers and packers are being able to convert [dates into] … date paste, date syrup, date-based snacks – and that actually provides a good outlet for the dates that don’t look so pretty and don’t qualify under our whole fruit standard.”

An unexpected increase in demand can be stressful. This year, Pacific Date has gotten forecasts from ingredient customers showing a 35 percent spike in orders month-over-month, according to Jeffrey. “I didn’t plan for this increase,” he said. If Pacific Date can’t source dates locally, it may have to import dates and contend with any relevant tariffs. Still, he said, “we’re all excited as date farmers, and happy that things are trending up.”

Generally, higher interest in dates and date products offers some “economic stability” in a notoriously unreliable business, Kneiding noted. “All farmers across the board are at mother nature’s mercy.” Stormy weather, for example, can destroy crops, eating into farmers’ sales. Strong demand, in these cases, may help.

For the commission, which collects fees based on sales, higher revenue means more funding for key initiatives, like government relations, research, and marketing. Last year, it partnered with the American Diabetes Association to spread awareness around how dates can fit into diabetic-friendly diets. “By being able to expand our marketing and branding, we’re able to also educate our consumers,” Kneiding said. This year it’s focusing on influencer marketing, among other initiatives.

State-operated groups can help raise awareness for agricultural products overall. But packaged goods companies – or growers themselves – have to set their own items apart.

Pretty packaging, date turtles, and one family’s story

About 10 years ago, when Joan Smith decided to start Rancho Meladuco Date Farm, she was already thinking about how to make people notice her dates. At the time, she observed that most date “packaging was unremarkable,” Smith recalled. She wanted Rancho Meladuco to stand out. To that end, her products are sold in tubs and boxes that feature bold designs, recipe recommendations, and, sometimes, maps of California, where the small farm is located.

With that ethos in place, Smith started pitching. “Right after launch, I used Instagram to start reaching out to different people in the food editorial space,” she recalled. Her efforts helped land Rancho Meladuco’s products on gift guides, including one published by The Wall Street Journal. Rancho Meladuco also joined the Specialty Food Association, a trade group that puts on regular shows where small businesses can meet retailers. And it’s taking part in the current online frenzy, posting recipes for frozen ice cream bars, Medjool date turtles, and more on its social media accounts.

Others brought fresh ideas to older businesses. Aziz Farms, which sells dates to wholesalers, began to market, ship, and brand its own products when owner Mark Tadros joined the family business about 18 years ago. Some of the changes Tadros made included “building a brand, designing packaging that popped and felt right, and then telling a story along with it,” he said. The Aziz Farms logo includes palm trees, camels, and pyramids, references to Tadros’s father’s home country of Egypt. Aziz Farms started packing Medjool dates around 11 years ago, Tadros said. At the time, it sold 42,000 pounds of Medjools per year – today, it’s up to 1.5 million pounds annually.

For Tadros and others like him, date farming is more than just a job. “I saw what my father had built,” he says, and “I felt like we had an opportunity to grow it in a way that would solidify his legacy in this industry.”

As he looks ahead, Tadros sees the importance of educating young consumers about small farms like his. “We do a lot of education activities, school field trips, programs like that,” he explains. “I’m hoping that we see a world where people are willing to pay more for produce that is closer to them,” helping to make local farming more sustainable.

“We’ve got a very optimistic outlook,” he adds. “It’s just staying the course.”

  • Dolly Parton Postpones All Vegas Concerts 9 Months Due to ‘Health Challenges’ – Casino.org

    Last updated on: September 28, 2025, 07:10h.

    • Dolly Parton has postponed all six dates of her Caesars Palace mini-residency due to health concerns
    • The country music legend said she will need to undergo “a few procedures”
    • Instead of taking place in December, her shows have been bumped to September 2026

Dolly Parton has postponed all six shows of her upcoming Las Vegas mini-residency, scheduled for December at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, until September 2026. The 79-year-old country legend blames what she calls “health challenges,” though she did not detail what they were.

Tickets to Parton’s December 2025 run all sold out the day they went on sale, making her only the fourth performer in the history of the Colosseum at Caesars Palace to accomplish this feat after Celine Dion, Garth Brooks and Adele. (Image: Live Nation)

    Parton promises to perform the six concerts (December 4, 6, 7, 10, 12 and 13) on September 17, 19, 20, 23, 25 and 26, 2026 instead.

“I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see,” the “9 to 5” singer wrote in a message to fans via Instagram on Sunday, Sept. 28.

“As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures,” Parton continued. “As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon!”

Parton may be vaguely referring to an engagement she just missed in Dollywood, her theme Tennessee theme park, on September 17.

“I had a kidney stone that was causing me a lot of problems,” she told fans in a video made for event attendees. “It turned out it’d given me an infection, and the doctor said, ‘You don’t need to be traveling right this minute, so you need a few days to get better.’”

The Colosseum concerts were to have marked the first time Parton performed in Las Vegas for 32 years. Now they will mark her first time in 33 years.

“Don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet,” she wrote in her message. “But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures in life.”

Tickets purchased for the original dates will be honored for the corresponding new dates. Refunds are also available.

“I love you and thank you for understanding,” Parton signed her note.

    Dubai Stuffed Dates

Dubai chocolate anything is all the rage right now.

I’ve seed Dubai filled pastries, parfaits and Dubai chocolate inspired spreads. So why not make it a perfect sweet treat bite by filling dates with this ridiculously addictive combo? The dates add the perfect caramel like chewy texture which works beautifully with the creamy and crunching filling.  I like to dip them in bittersweet chocolate,  however milk chocolate works too! Then I sprinkle them with finely chopped pistachios and crushed toasted kataifi before popping them into the fridge to set.

  • Looking for a Unique Way to Celebrate Valentine’s Day? Live Wildly Has Five Outdoor Dates Perfect for Florida Love Birds

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    Feb 11, 2025

It can be hard to plan a Valentine’s Day celebration for that special someone in your life. But Florida’s countless beaches, state parks, mangroves, and other natural areas provide the perfect places for you and your sweetheart to get outdoors and discover wild Florida.

Live Wildly, a non-profit working to advance conservation in Florida and beyond, has five recommendations for outdoor dates this Valentine’s Day.

“These locations provide beautiful settings that will not only help you fall in love with each other, but also fall in love with wild Florida,” said Lisa Shipley, CEO of Live Wildly. “From holding hands on secluded beaches to strolling through flower gardens, a day exploring nature is the perfect way to ask someone to ‘bee’ your Valentine.”

    • Pancakes in Paradise
De Leon Springs State Park: Dubbed “Healing Waters,” by Mayaca Indians who once inhabited the land, De Leon Springs State Park offers miles of hiking trails, bird watching, and swimming in natural spring water. Start your day with a unique breakfast at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill located inside the park, where you can make your own pancakes. Then, take a romantic paddleboat ride on the spring-fed waters. And be sure to visit “Old Methuselah,” a huge bald cypress that is more than 500 years old.

    • Astronaut Adventure
Canaveral National Seashore and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge: These neighboring parks sit next to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and boast amazing views of the earth, sea, and sky. Take a morning cruise along Black Point Wildlife Drive — where you can see alligators, bobcats, and river otters – followed by a romantic afternoon walk along the beach. And you might even get the chance to see a NASA rocket launch, really making your heart soar!

    • For Lovers Only
Lovers Key State Park: It is said that until a road was built in 1965 connecting the islands of this park, only lovers were willing to make the effort to get there by boat. And, thus, its name was born. Today you can access the park by car, but it remains true to its name as a perfect destination for couples. Enjoy a secluded beach day, followed by a sunset paddle through mangroves where you can see dolphins, manatees, osprey, and bald eagles. Finish the romantic outing with dinner at a nearby waterfront restaurant.

    • Garden Tidepool Oasis
Washington Oaks Garden State Park: Wander alongside shimmering reflection ponds that wind through beautiful formal gardens full of azaleas, camellias, and birds of paradise. Enjoy a picnic lunch under majestic oaks, then head to the park’s shoreline famous for its coquina rocks – limestone made from shell fragments – where you can explore tidal pools full of marine life.

    • Campers’ Delight
Anastasia State Park is a great place for observing a wide array of wildlife, including manatees, sea turtles, osprey, and bald eagles. Start your date biking along the beach or hiking through ancient sand dunes. Pack your own lunch and eat under covered picnic tables near the ocean. And spend a romantic night camping in the park’s beautiful maritime forest. If you hear soft music playing as you fall asleep, it might be love – or the sounds of concerts drifting over from the nearby Saint Augustine Amphitheatre.

“At Live Wildly, we believe people protect what they love,” said Shipley. “That’s why we encourage everyone to get outside this Valentine’s Day and fall in love with wild Florida.”

  • Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions’ first gameplay shows off multiplayer, character creator

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions’ first gameplay shows off multiplayer, character creator

    [ad_1]

One of the more notable missing elements from the Harry Potter prequel game Hogwarts Legacy was the high-flying sport of quidditch. Publisher Warner Bros. Games will address that exclusion later this year with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, a new single-player and online competitive multiplayer game based on the wizarding sport.

Developer Unbroken Games revealed the first gameplay from its Harry Potter quidditch video game this week, showing off some familiar faces, like Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy. There’s also a glimpse of multiple arenas, including the Quidditch World Cup Stadium.

Quidditch enthusiasts will also be able to create the young wizard of their choice. Unbroken Games shows off the Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions character creator in the video above, highlighting the choices in houses, clothing, broomsticks, and more. Publisher WB Games says there are “no plans for microtransactions in the game at this time,” which hopefully means what you see is what you’ll get, forever.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be released digitally for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on Sept. 3. A physical deluxe edition will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on Nov. 8. A Nintendo Switch version is also coming, and will be released sometime this holiday season, WB Games says.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will get Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (and a Firebolt Supreme Broom Skin) as part of September 2024’s downloadable games. The game will be available to keep from Sept. 3-30, if you have an active PS Plus membership of any tier.

  • Date Your Mate!

    Date Your Mate!

    [ad_1]

If you want an exceptional love relationship – even though you’ve been together for years or
decades? You’ve got to learn to date your mate again.

Oxford dictionary defines a date as a social or romantic appointment or engagement. And
when you were first dating your partner, you did a great job. Remember? You used to plan
ahead, come up with enticing settings and fun events, set the scene and ensure the object
of your affection felt very, very special.

But how are you doing at making your mate feel adored these days?

I’ve worked with hundreds of couples as a psychologist and sex therapist, and thousands
more through my online couples program Become Passion and the biggest complaint long-
term couples have is a lack of fun, romance, and a distinct absence of those juicy falling-in-
love feelings. I call this stage of relationship Marriage Inc. You know how it goes – the two of
you are busy with kids, careers, refinancing the mortgage and dropping the dog off at the
groomers. You like each other well enough but you are running your relationship like a
business. And in the midst of it all, you’ve lost each other. You are parents, not lovers, and
joint CEO’s of a thriving family but a dying love affair.

    Date Your Mate!

So what can you do to recreate some of the joy and passion you felt when you were falling
in love? Well, it may surprise you to learn that one of the most powerful ways to revive your
    relationship is indeed, date night.

One of the things I teach the couples in my program is to bring more mindfulness and
creativity to their date planning – whether it’s your first date or the 51st. A mindful date
should give you insight into your sweetheart’s personality & character. A creative date can
teach you about yourself and where your relationship is currently strong and where it needs
some work. A sexy or adventurous date can actually increase your attraction to your
partner. And oh yes, dates outta be fun. Lots of fun.

    Top 8 great date ideas

    1. The Wake Up Together Date

Go for breakfast or brunch. Why? Breakfast dates are great because you get to start the day together in a novel way – and novelty is a key ingredient for happy long term love. When we fall into those day-to-day, Marriage Inc.routines I grab toast while you load the kids in the car –  we forget to look at our sweetheart with new eyes. So once a month, eat out, savor something delicious, and talk about your hopes and dreams. Full disclosure? I might be biased toward the epic breakfast date. I am writing this on the 9th anniversary of my first date with my now hubby. I was ambivalent about the blind date, so I kinda tested him by offering my only free time slot. He stepped up, chose the cafe, and our pre-sunrise breakfast date lasted for four hours.

    2. The Adventure Date

Do something that is new, interesting, or gets your adrenaline pumping. Tackle a high ropes course, go on a food tour, or hit the go-cart track. Why? Research shows that we find others more attractive (and vice versa) when we are stimulated by new or exciting experiences. One study showed that (heterosexual) men who walked over a scary suspension bridge were far more likely to ask an attractive woman for her number than those who were still in the parking lot. So not only will you have fun, you can see your beloved in a new light. A very flattering light at that.

    3. The Side-by-Side Date

This one is great if you have some big topics to discuss but you get a bit tongue tied on a face-to-face sit down with your partner. date. After all, staring at each other across a table while discussing whether to retire can be intimidating. Instead of a sit down date, go for a walk or hike. Pick somewhere beautiful – whether that is a mountain trail or an urban stroll through an artsy neighborhood. It’s much easier to talk side by side, particularly when you have an ever changing landscape to comment on. You might find you open up and speak more deeply in this supportive set up. Bonus points? Bring your dog – or borrow one from a friend! Nothing breaks the ice and opens our hearts and minds like a happy hound.

    4. The “Can We Cooperate” Date

Take a ride on a tandem bike or better yet, paddle a two-person kayak. This one is both heaps of fun and a great test of your ability to work together. Why?  Simply because if you want to get anywhere, you have to listen and be willing to let go of being right. Laughter helps too. I’ve seen plenty of long-married couples whisper fighting in a kayak. In fact, my hubby and I were guilty of that – turns out we needed to communicate more clearly and have a sense of humor if we wanted to end up at our destination. Huh. Sounds a lot like marriage.

    5. The Curiosity Date

For this one, first choose an interesting setting – maybe sit at the bar at a classy cocktail bar and watch the maestro mixologists at work or pack an evening picnic and hit the beach. (A darker room or environment can help with the next part.) Next, I want you to Ask Interesting Questions. The couple in my program love this exercise. Make up your own questions or try some of these:

    • Tell me about a happy couple we know – what aspects of their relationship do you admire?
    • If you could have ten minutes with your 21 year old self, what advice would you give?
    • Who was your first kiss with? Was it good? What happened next?
    • What do you think are your best qualities as a romantic partner and what are your most difficult qualities?
    • If you won a prize that gave us two weeks at a luxury vacation spot anywhere in the world, what would you choose?
    • What is one sexy thing you’d like us to try?

Be open, you’ve got nothing to lose. And if you are in a dark place, they can’t even see you blush.

    6. The Friendly Competition Date

This is one of my favorites. After all, you can tell a lot about how the two of you are doing as a couple when you are facing winning or losing and your egos are on the line.  Whether you choose something intense like ax-throwing or paintball, or something more sedate like bowling, backgammon or bingo, you’ll quickly find out if your separate tendencies to be a  poor loser, a gracious winner, a fiercely competitive adversary, or a hilarious klutz who can laugh at themself have changed over the years.

    7. The Uninhibited Date

I love a date that invites the two of you to let go, whether that involves moving your body, yelling at the top of your lungs, or laughing until you cry – anything that helps you loosen your inhibitions and toss away your set in stone date pattern of a dinner and a movie. Go see some live music or visit a salsa club and take a free lesson before hitting that sexy dance floor. Go to a sports event and cheer your head off or hit a comedy club or improv competition. Bonus points for dressing a little crazy (I’m thinking
team jerseys and face paint) or sexy (rock and roll chic anyone?)when is the last time the two of you  let go a little?

    8. The “Sexy Truth or Dare” Date

This one is not for the faint of heart. If you want to get a little frisky you can play a game of sexy truth or dare. For example – Truth – “What is the most public place you’ve ever made love?” Dare – “I dare you to touch my arm with as much sensual passion as you can”. You can pick up a commercial card deck or game that will provide the truths and dares if you don’t feel very creative. And you might want to set this
    date in the bedroom.

As I often tell couples, great relationships are not an accident. Like anything else, it takes love and effort to keep your love, interest, and passion alive. Date night rejuvenates long term relationships. So this week, treat your partner like the interesting, attractive, wonderful person they are. How would you date them if you were trying to win their heart? I challenge you to win their heart all over again, one date at a time.

Joey talks about how he makes his decisions on ‘The Bachelor’ | Episode 7 preview

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK — When we last left “The Bachelor”, Joey was in Canada with half a dozen women and still wondering which one would make the ideal mate for him.

We first met this guy when “The Bachelorette” Charity Lawson sent him home.

Now, he’s worried his heart might get broken again.

Hometowns are on the horizon! Fans of the show know that means “The Bachelor” must narrow the field to select four women he likes enough to go on a date in their hometowns and meet their families.

Joey says this particular week in Jasper, Alberta was particularly challenging because he had six solid connections with each of the remaining women, yet he knew his process of elimination had to continue.

His biggest fear remains being rejected, and one of his strongest connections with Daisy, said at this point, she isn’t ready to say she loves him, although others are more willing.

“There were real connections and relationships with each of those women,” Joey said.

“And, how did you nation it down further? What were you looking for? Eyewitness News Entertainment Reporter Sandy Kenyon asked.

“It sounds very obvious, but which connections were stronger? They were all different, but each week that’s all it is: is thinking which is the strongest? Which you can see the most future with, what kind of makes the most sense?” Joey said.

“The Bachelor” airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET right here on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.

Take 5 Stuffed Dates are the perfect “better for you” sweet treat when your craving something sweet and salty. Pitted dates, stuffed with crunchy peanut butter is topped with a pretzel and coated in milk chocolate. Yields 10 servings.

    Take 5 Stuffed Dates

If there’s one thing to know about me (besides loving citrus desserts) is that I am, and always will be, a chocolate covered pretzel fan. So naturally Flipz were a major part of my teen years and then the Take 5 when it came out in 2004. Last year, you might recall, when I shared these snickers stuffed dates? Well I’m happy to announce that this year I’m sharing my second favorite candy bar stuffed date.

    Take 5. Obviously.

The dates add sweetness and caramel like flavor, I use crunchy peanut butter (dark roasted by Santa Cruz organics is legit so good!) and the pretzel adds incredible crunch and salty cracker flavor.

  • ‘Bachelor’ Joey deepens connections while drama grows with Maria

‘Bachelor’ Joey deepens connections while drama grows with Maria

    [ad_1]

“The Bachelor” picked up Tuesday night with Maria walking out of the cocktail party saying that she wanted to go home. “I’m trying to navigate this with grace,” Lea said to Joey. It’s really ridiculous that she inserted herself in this situation. “I’m just trying to put my best foot forward.”

Gina: The part that got me was when Lea noted that Maria was leaving the castle and “we were all confused.” I nearly spit out my water. Girl, YOU DID THAT!

Madina went out to Maria and told her that she wasn’t alone. “That’s an awful feeling and I want you to know that you are not alone,” she said. Madina really is a sweet, yet emotional person. Jesse Palmer chose that moment to “ding, ding!” and end the cocktail party.

Maria gathers herself and walks into where the group of women is lined up and waiting for Joey. Remember, she already has a rose from the two-on-one date.

    Rose Ceremony

    1) Lexi (1-on-1 date)

    2) Kelsey T. (group date)

    3) Maria (2-on-1 date)

    4) Kelsey A.

    5) Katelyn

    6) Daisy

    7) Rachel

    8) Jenn

    9) Autumn

    10) Jess

    11) Madina

    12) Lea

I suppose he had to keep Lea because she’s bringing the drama. That meant Allison and Edwina were eliminated. Maria vowed not to run and to keep her eye on the prize: Joey. He announced they were all heading to Andalusia, Spain!

Gina: Edwina said that she was proud to be going home knowing she gave 100% and she’s right. I liked her a lot! Also, what was that little smirk Lea gave when Daisy was called? I want to know. Also, that she almost tripped when she got back to her place felt like a little Lea karma. Just me?

    Women Arrive in Spain

The women hoped for a fresh start without drama, but I have a feeling, as I’m sure most of Bachelor Nation does, there’s no avoiding drama. Joey met up with the woman by riding in on a Vespa. Kelsey A. said her grandma is actually from this part of Spain. “Kelsey A., would you like to jump on that Vespa and get out of here?” he asked her. She happily jumped up and zipped away with Joey. Maria asked the other women as they watched Kelsey ride away, if they had gotten the Lea card, where they could steal a one-on-one, would they have used it in that moment. Kelsey T. said she would have kept it, but she’s not sure if she would have used it or not. Lea spoke up and said that if she had to “cheat” to get a one-on-one she didn’t want it, she wanted to wait to get her turn. Maria nodded. Kelsey T. walked away and cried because she was sad she didn’t get the one-on-one.

Gina: I like that Maria tried to really wipe the slate clean and toasted to all the women there. Lea, of course, is showing her true colors and you’re right, Jen, there is no avoiding drama. Maria wishes you were not right!

    Kelsey A.’s 1-on-1 date

Kelsey A. hoped that she wasn’t too far behind the other women who already had one-on-one dates. Joey took Kelsey A. to a shop to get food for a picnic. They also did a bit of wine tasting. Then they went for a walk, played some soccer, and a couple told them they would have a happy future because the fountain they visited was magic. We’ll see! They each tossed a coin in and made a wish. Joey said the day felt very natural and they definitely have chemistry!

That evening, they went to a 13th-century bathhouse for dinner. Joey told her that he felt butterflies with her. Kelsey A. said that it was so great to have a full day to get to know him and strengthen their relationship. She shared that her mom and dad met in the military and her mom was even soldier of the year multiple times. Ten years ago, she got breast cancer and it metastasized to her bones, she had six months to live, but she died after two months. Kelsey A. cried as she shared this with Joey. “I know at the end there is an engagement but it’s hard to think of my mom not being at my wedding,” she said. “I think she’d like you.”

Joey appreciated everything that Kelsey A. shared with him. It was no surprise that he offered her the date rose! As they walked outside, a man serenaded them with a guitar and they danced and kissed into the night. “I guess I might be starting to fall for Joey!” Kelsey A. said.

Gina: They’re really trying to make me cry with these heartfelt conversations, aren’t they? I’ve lost both my parents and those realizations that you’re not able to share the big life moments and even the small ones really hit you. Kudos to Kelsey A. for being able to talk about it with Joey. And kudos to Joey for being so sweet and understanding.

    Date Card Arrives

Back with the women, Kelsey T. continued to cry. Rachel tried to lend a supportive ear, but she was just struggling. “Today felt very real,” she said to the whole group. There was a knock at the door. The date card read, “Lexi, Daisy, Jenn, Autumn, Maria, Katelyn, Madina, Lea, Jess, and Kelsey T. Our love is a work of art.” That means that Rachel was going to get a one-on-one!

    Group Date

In Marbella, the group of women met up with Joey at a villa. Paula, a mixed-media artist, she asked them to write a quote about their life and feelings for Joey. They also had to paint something that conveyed that quote. Lea just kept talking about how she wished Maria wasn’t there. Maria painted a picture of their two-on-one date.

Joey’s painting was of himself holding an engagement ring. Daisy liked that included a ring because it showed it was top of mind. The paintings and sayings were very sweet by all of the women. Jess was the one that won! They had to get in their bathing suits because they were going to do some couples painting, with their bodies! They rolled all over a blanket canvas with their very painted selves. They had a great time!

Later on, they had a cocktail party where they could have some one-on-one conversations. Jenn was first. He told her he did take notice of her painting and loved the reminder of the fun time and connection they have. “I see a real future, I see something that can build,” he said. Kelsey T. shared a little bit of the internal struggle she’s having. Joey told her to hang in there.

Gina: I mentioned this last night, their connection seems super strong and I like where it’s going.

Maria shared with Joey that her mom left and she wasn’t around. They were in a very bad accident when she was 1 year old. Her car seat was in pieces and she was declared dead at the scene but managed somehow to be revived and is a walking miracle. Her mother broke every bone in her body, went through an awful depression, and wasn’t around for most of her childhood. Her dad fought for her and stayed there to remain married. So it seems they eventually worked everything out. She describes her mother and her relationship as “a work in progress.” In the end, he offered her the date rose! Lea could have spit nails! “My heart is in my *expletive*,” she said. “I thought she was the last person this rose could have gone to.”

Gina: Well, Lea, you are not Joey. So your opinion on who gets the date rose is not relevant here. Also, she had the audacity to say that Maria was putting on a good performance. Really? I believe it’s Lea who had us all believing she was more mature than she really is. Just sayin’.

    Rachel’s 1-on-1 Date

Rachel’s date card said, “Bailamos mi amor.” They would be going dancing! Joey was excited to see her because he said there was a spark and level of ease between them. They walked to a Flamenco show! Rachel said that she’s always wanted to see this in real life. Joey looked so funny in his shorts and Flamenco boots. You really need some pants with those, ha ha! After some practice, they got to take part in the Flamenco show in front of a real audience. Thankfully, they wore real Flamenco outfits, so he had some pants with his dance boots.

Gina: Dear ABC, the next time I interview Joey, I’d ask that he wears shorts and flamenco boots because that was a serious VIBE! I’m with you, Jen, on being glad they went with traditional flamenco garb for their performance.

They walked around in the evening and visited a local pizzeria. It was beautiful inside! Rachel said that she’s a slow burn and doesn’t share too much but she wanted to share some of the big points. She talked about how important nursing is to her. It’s a tough job, especially because she works in the ICU. “I am deserving of what you have to offer,” Rachel said. Yes! It’s sad that she ever felt like she wasn’t! Joey was so happy that she felt that way with him and that he reminds her of her dad. He offered her the date rose! “With us, I can just be and this rose is to let you know I’m all in on the slow burn,” Joey said. “I’m excited about the potential future.” Cute! Once she had the rose comfortably in hand, she walked with Joey to the beach where they watched a fireworks display just for them!

Gina: ICU nurses deserve the world, period, end of story. Rachel, you are awesome and I love your spirit. If I’m being honest, I was questioning their connection. I wasn’t sure it was there! I’m glad to be wrong about it and that they had this moment tonight.

    Cocktail Party

The next day, Joey and Jesse played some tennis and got a good workout in. But, it’s already time for another rose ceremony. Joey looked very handsome as he arrived for the cocktail party. Daisy asked him how he was doing and he said that he means the best through the situation and wants to be sensitive through all of the emotions. He told her that he hoped she’s doing OK, and she said that there was no place else she’d rather be. “Daisy is 100% someone I could fall in love with.”

Gina: Thank you, Joey, for clearing that up. We weren’t sure how you were feeling. KIDDING! We can all see there are true feelings there. Even in the moments we don’t hear them talking, when Daisy and Joey are near each other, they both light up.

Jess is worried that her connection with Joey is more in her head. She’s trying to not compare herself to others but the nerves are creeping in. Maria stole him away from Katelyn and Jess did not like that. Maria already has a rose so Jess felt she had no business cutting in. Katelyn added that she’d probably want more time too and she was nice about it. Maria is brewing up another enemy it seems!

I was wondering why Jess was holding back on getting up and it’s because she felt because she got extra time on the group date with him, she should let the other girls go first. Well, all’s fair in love and war, Jess. Maria came back from talking with Joey and Jess said it was disrespectful. She then accused Maria of shutting her down. Maria said she’s already in a situation with Lea and she wants Jess to stay out of it. Then Jess started calling her a B****. Yikes. Of course, Lea was there to comfort her. Jess never got time! Maybe she should have gotten up to talk to him… just sayin…

Gina: This is exactly what I was yelling at my TV screen. If you’re so worried about not getting time, get up and go to him!! Jess is just mad that Maria did what she should have. Also, I’d like to note that Jess is 24 and Lea is 23. The immaturity in their little vent session was extremely obvious.

    Rose Ceremony

    1) Kelsey A. (1-on-1 date)

    2) Maria (group date)

    3) Rachel (1-on-1 date)

    4) Jenn

    5) Kelsey T.

    6) Daisy

    7) Lea

    8) Lexi

    9) Katelyn

    10) Jess

Oh my goodness, that means we have two girls in the house now who hate Maria. I’m actually a bit nervous for her. Autumn and Madina were sent home.

Gina: It’s gonna get worse before it gets better in the drama department. Also, Autumn, Madina, we’ll see you on Bachelor In Paradise, won’t we? There are some good Bachelor Nation guys out there. I think you’ll do well.

    Coming Up

Next week, Joey and the women traveled west to Montreal. It seems that the women’s insecurities are going to start raring up and the women are having a hard time seeing each other go on dates with him. It shows a preview of the final weeks and Joey said his worst nightmare is coming true. We see a rose and Joey crying at the podium. “I can’t think that’s happened before,” Joey said. What could it be? Does he propose and someone rejects him? This is really upping the tension and we aren’t even at hometowns yet!

Don’t miss new episodes of Joey’s season of “The Bachelor” on Monday nights on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.
