  • Grand Central Park nears close-out as final lots go to builders – Houston Agent Magazine

Johnson Development turned over the final 159 lots to builders at Grand Central Park, the Conroe master-planned community that’s been actively selling for 10 years.

For this final phase, David Weekley Homes, Drees Custom Homes, Highland Homes, Perry Homes and Westin Homes will build on lots ranging from 45 to 60 feet wide.

Johnson Development first acquired the 2,000-acre community in 2013. Today, the MPC features more than 1,500 homes, an 88-acre lake, amenity complex, event center and approximately 1,000 acres of natural land.

“We’ve had an amazing run in Grand Central Park, realizing our vision to create a vibrant community that has a unique blend of abundant natural elements and urban conveniences,” Senior Vice President and General Manager Bob Douglas said in a press release. “Over the past 10 years, Grand Central Park has transformed the Conroe region with more retail, restaurants and office space, all while preserving much of the natural elements beloved by so many local residents.”

The last new homes will likely sell in mid- to late-2027, Douglas said.

  • Welcome Home, Parker McCollum

Parker McCollum has played hundreds of shows over the course of his career, from small venues in front of dozens to stadiums packed with thousands. He’s seen just about everything since blowing up on the country music scene around the turn of the decade.

Saturday night felt a little bit different.

In front of a standing-room-only crowd in The Woodlands, the Conroe native was welcomed home by thousands of adoring locals. He treated them to 18 songs over 90 minutes that truly showcased a songwriter and performer on the cusp of mega-stardom.

“It’s damn good to be home,” said McCollum, who also pointed out that he once graduated high school (“barely,” his words) on the very stage on which he was now playing.

The show was also a masterclass in crafting a setlist.

McCollum blended hits such as “Hell of a Year,” “Pretty Heart” and “Handle on You” with material from his phenomenal self-titled record, which dropped in June. Standout tracks from the new record were ample, most notably the show-opening “My Blue,” the show-closing “My Worst Enemy” and the album’s lead single, “What Kinda Man.”

McCollum, ever the gentleman, seemed truly humbled by the moment, which was only exacerbated when members of The Woodlands local council bestowed him a key to the city, along with making September 6, “Parker McCollum Day.”

For a guy who often sings about having a “hell of a year,” and McCollum certainly has, it also made for one hell of a night.

Here’s to many more for the local boy done good.

Overheard in the Crowd: Many, many women in the crowd were disposed to yell, “We love you Parker” throughout the night. This makes sense, given the man is very handsome and makes very accessible country music.

Random Notebook Dump: For September standards, it was lovely in The Woodlands on Saturday night. There was even a breeze, and most people were done sweating by 9:30 or so. The Astros also beat the Rangers by 11. … While a bit of a drive, The Woodlands concert venue really is quite impressive … Parker McCollum is gonna be an even bigger deal here in the next few years. Some people just have that “it” quality; he does.

    Setlist:

    My Blue

    Big Sky

    Meet You in the Middle

    Young Man’s Blues

    Stoned

    To Be Loved By You

    Hope That I’m Enough

    What Kinda Man

    I Can’t Breathe

    Rest of My Life

    Hell of a Year

  • Already soaked neighborhoods gearing up for soaking rain

Already soaked neighborhoods gearing up for soaking rain

    [ad_1]

HOUSTON – Just as many families are getting ready to put last week’s flooding in the rear-view mirror, Mother Nature is gearing up another storm that could dump several inches of rain on already saturated areas.

Another round of showers is forecast to move through the Houston area later in the day on Monday.

Some areas could see several inches of rain, including neighborhoods north of I-10. Many of those communities are still cleaning up from the most recent flooding.

“Yes, we washed up. But it stunk so bad,” said Sharon Hambrick.

It was a flood that nearly rivaled that of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

In its wake is streets lined with debris and cars flooded out.

“t flooded, maybe 3 or 4 days, and it hasn’t flooded since like 2017,” said Glenn Sutton.

Gage: “We could see a healthy amount of rain, does that worry you at all that give you PTSD or Déjà vu?”

Glenn: “No. I’m okay. You know, it’s not going to rain 20 inches like it did the other day, I don’t think. But no, I’m okay.”

Sharon: “Yeah, especially my husband. He’s very worried. He always gets jumpy and, you know, should we do this anymore because of our age? We’re up in age.”

Simply put – some of these neighborhoods are like a soaked sponge.

Any more water and the ground might not be able to absorb it, resulting in flooding.

While this rain won’t even come close to what we just went through, it’s a knee jerk reaction that still has those that went through the heartbreak a little nervous about any kind of rain.

  • ‘Handled the calls appropriately’: Documents reveal police calls made involving Lakewood Church shooting suspect

‘Handled the calls appropriately’: Documents reveal police calls made involving Lakewood Church shooting suspect

    [ad_1]

CONROE, Texas – Documents released by the city of Conroe shows multiple calls made to the Conroe Police Department that involved the woman tied to the deadly Lakewood Church shooting on Sunday.

Neighbors complaints to police about suspect

Neighbors spoke with KPRC 2 Corley Peel on Monday about the red flags they noticed while living next to Genesse Moreno, 36.

Several neighbors said Moreno harassed and threatened them for four years.

On Sunday morning, hours before the shooting, Moreno placed a blue tarp over her vehicle in the driveway and was placing items she couldn’t see inside the car, according to a neighbor. They said they also noticed Moreno as carrying a trench coat in her arms that police said she was believed to be wearing when she walked inside the church.

A neighbor who lived across the street from Moreno said she filed a police report in July 2022 when she pulled a gun on her. She said Moreno was not arrested.

Between the group of neighbors, they have called police dozens of times and filed multiple police reports about Moreno’s behaviors.

Conroe Police Department reviews calls for service related to suspect

Conroe Police Department responded to KPRC 2, stating that it has reviewed calls for service related to Moreno. The review included calls that Moreno was either the “complainant” and/or a “suspect.”

The review reportedly revealed that the police department’s personnel “handled the calls appropriately and according to law.”

Conroe PD stated that “nothing relayed to officers would have given authority to arrest or require health emergency detention; nor would any of the information have been an indication that the suspect would commit such a heinous crime. The Conroe Police Department has no further information to share at this time.”
