    CHICAGO — Expect cooler-than-normal conditions across the area Wednesday.

    High pressure that moved in after Tuesday’s rainfall will bring calmer conditions and plenty of sunshine after some morning cloud cover, but a flow of the jet stream will usher in cooler air.

    Then, winds are expected to shift to a southwesterly flow by about Friday, which will ramp temperatures back up. They’re projected to be above normal, in fact, for the 6-10-day outlook.

    Lake Michigan Warning

    Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications said high waves and dangerous currents were expected at Lake Michigan beaches through Wednesday evening.

    “Not a good time for a swim, folks,” an OEMC alert said.

    Monday looks to be another gorgeous spring day in Chicagoland.

    It’ll be calm and quiet, with abundant sunshine. High temperatures will reach the low 70s inland and the 60s near the lake.

    But a line of thunderstorms is expected to move into the area later Tuesday, bringing with it the chance for severe weather, including strong wind, hail and tornadoes. The biggest threat will be Tuesday from around 5 p.m. until about midnight, but the chance for severe weather could persist into early Wednesday morning.

    As of now, though, the highest risk for severe weather Tuesday into Wednesday remains well west of Chicagoland, but we’ll keep you updated as the system approaches Tuesday evening.

    After that, it’ll be cooler for the latter part of the week.

    TONIGHT: Mostly clear, winds ENE at 5-10 mph, increasing clouds late. Low: 50.

    TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy, cooler lakeside, evening severe t’storm chance, winds E at 10-20 mph, gusts to 30. High: 72/64.

    It may be officially spring now, but winter isn’t done yet.

    A late-season winter storm is headed for Chicagoland overnight into Friday, though any significant snowfall totals should be limited to northern counties and into Wisconsin.

    A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday for McHenry County, as well as for other counties northwest of Chicagoland and into southern Wisconsin. There is no advisory for Lake County yet, but that could change. The storm is projected to drop 1-4 inches of wet, slushy snow for areas under advisory.

    As for the city, a wintry mix could impact both morning and evening commutes Friday. Areas further south will see just rain Friday, with temperatures warmer than to the north.

    Thursday, meanwhile, will be a calm day, with highs in the low 40s. The average high for March 21 in Chicagoland is 49.

    TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy, slight chance rain/snow, winds ESE at 5-10 mph. Low: 32.

    Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day, but the air will have a winter-like chill.

    It may look outside like it did on Saturday, when highs reached the upper 50s on a mild, pleasant day, but it’ll be much colder than that Sunday. A mass of cold, dry air has settled over Chicagoland, which will make 40 degrees a tough goal to reach on St. Patrick’s Day.

    There’s also a chance for flurries or snow showers during the early part of the afternoon, as clouds will increase. Temperatures will again be in the high 30s on Monday before warming back up into the low 50s by Tuesday, the first day of spring.

    Rain chances won’t likely increase until later in the week, around Thursday and Friday.

    Abundant sunshine, warm air and blustery winds are on tap for Sunday in Chicagoland.

    Temperatures were already more than 10 degrees warmer than they were 24 hours ago around the area early Sunday morning, with highs projected to rise to around 70 by the afternoon. It will remain sunny and dry, with a strong southwest wind producing gusts up to between 30 and 40 miles per hour on Sunday afternoon.

    A line of showers and storms is expected to come through Monday afternoon into the evening, which will cool things off for the middle of the week.

    But not back to frigid, winter-like temps, as it should remain in the upper 40s to lower 50s as the week progresses.
