A small bonus, but better than the usual rate of 1:1. It could be useful if you just want some extra LifeMiles quickly.

It’s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the program if you plan on making a transfer. These transfers are not reversible.

  • Avianca LifeMiles Testing 1:3 Points Transfer to GOL Smiles (Targeted)

Avianca LifeMiles Testing 1:3 Points Transfer to GOL Smiles (Targeted)

    [ad_1]

Avianca LifeMiles Testing 1:3 Points Transfer to GOL Smiles

Avianca is emailing select Avianca LifeMiles members with an opportunity to transfer points to Brazilian carrier GOL Airlines at a quite favorable rate of 1:3.

This is apparently a pilot test for now, so it’s not clear how many people are targeted with the ability to transfer points. Avianca also says that the transfer rate might change, so it might be worth looking into the value of the GOL Smiles program if you have been targeted.

Here’s some of the relevant text in the email, as first shared by View from the Wing:

“You have been selected to participate in a pilot test for a new benefit. Smiles will soon be offering this opportunity to a select group of members as well.

Starting today, you have the ability to convert your miles from lifemiles to Smiles; the loyalty program & currency of avianca’s sister airline GOL. You will need to have a Smiles account to convert your miles. If you are not yet a member you can join for free.

For example, if you need 150,000 Smiles for your redemption, and the applicable exchange rate at the time is 3:1, then you’ll need to convert 50,000 lifemiles.

Once your lifemiles are converted to Smiles, you’ll have 12 months to use them before they expire. In case you don’t use them, you can convert them back to lifemiles before they expire at the exchange rate that applies at that time.”

    The Battle Over Rewards Points

Virtually every travel company has some form of a loyalty program where customers are rewarded for how much they stay, fly and spend. When the programs first began in the late 1970s, earning elite status usually involved a straightforward combination of money spent with the program and actual time spent in the air or in a hotel room. More recently, dollars spent on loyalty credit cards are becoming the primary way for travelers to earn points and, more important, elite status, which can bring numerous perks. ➡️ Read more
