Miami Art Week recently witnessed a revolutionary blend of technology and music as Austin Millz, recognized not only as a prolific artist/producer, but also a true pioneer in his craft, collaborated with Meta for the Meta Sonic Listening Party alongside 10x Grammy-nominated artist Victoria Monét. This dynamic event, aligned with Meta’s “It’s Your World” campaign, delivered a unique and immersive experience that left the city buzzing.

Austin Millz is incredibly talented both on stage and in the studio, especially on the keys, which is part of what made this so special. During the event, Austin demonstrated the capabilities of the Meta Quest 3 by teaching Victoria how to play the piano using the innovative PianoVision feature. This live demonstration added an interactive element to the experience, creating a first-of-its-kind mixed reality jam session that blurred the lines between the virtual and the real.

Following the success of last year’s viral Meta House experience, Meta transformed Miami Art Week into a mixed-reality playground, providing a platform for emerging artists, musicians, and creators to redefine the future of creative expression. The “It’s Your World” campaign brought together a diverse array of talents to showcase the limitless possibilities of mixed reality across various experiences throughout the city, making it only fitting that Austin was involved.

We had the opportunity to chat with Austin about this experience and what’s ahead, check it out below!

Collaborating with Victoria Monét in a mixed-reality jam session is an innovative approach. How did the idea for this come about, and what excites you most about merging technology with live musical performances?

Austin Millz: I think merging live music with technology is the future, whether you’re collaborating in the studio or collaborating in real time and real life. I think what just happened this past weekend was the first of its kind. I think it’s going to pave the way for newer events of this nature and push the boundaries of creativity. Meta had the right idea with the Meta Sonic Listening party and this experience. It was great.

During the session, you used PianoVision on Meta Quest 3 to teach Victoria Monét how to play the piano. Can you share more about the creative process behind incorporating virtual reality into a live music experience, and how it enhances the learning and collaboration aspects of the performance?

Austin: For sure. Just knowing how to intertwine and really know how to navigate technology is one helpful thing. But Meta Quest and the PianoVision technology is so user friendly that honestly, it’s half and half, the technology is so amazing that it can really allow the user to feel comfortable. It gives that real IRL effect of having somebody in person helping you, but the technology is so amazing that having a person there too is not essential, but it helps to have somebody there just for that real life aspect. This new technology is so captivating and innovative that you can just really be hands-on with it.

The Meta Sonic Listening Party is part of Meta’s “It’s Your World.” campaign, celebrating the next generation’s creative expression. How does your collaboration with Meta align with this campaign, and how do you see technology influencing the future of music and art?

Austin Millz: I think Meta is really pushing the envelope in terms of innovation. For me,  I’m using Meta everyday—whether it’s Facebook or Instagram, and it’s just really allowing me to have my music across the world. It’s allowing me to touch different audiences, and allowing me to just really take my creativity to new heights. I’m super excited for the new technology, because I think it’s going to take it to a whole other new level. The “It’s Your World.” campaign has allowed me to create my own world with Meta.

As a creator yourself, how do you personally leverage Meta’s products or immersive technology in your creative process? And how do you think these tools can inspire and assist other artists in pushing boundaries and exploring new avenues in their work?

Austin Millz: I’m super excited to see what I’m going to do with them. I already have so many different ideas, even with the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, I’m definitely going to use those during my live shows. I can capture content and really have the user or the audience or people watching my content feel like they’re at a live show. That’s something that I’m really looking forward to. There’s so many things in terms of the apps too that are in Meta Quest 3 that you can just really be hands-on with, and have things be really accessible and just really be able to learn things that you never thought you could before, because Meta’s going to allow you to be hands-on with the technology. Whatever age you are, it’s going to allow you to feel like you’re getting there. I think Meta is allowing the average consumer to really be hands-on with anything they want to create their own world.

How do you see events like the Meta Sonic Listening Party contributing to the intersection of art, technology, music, and what impact do you hope that these experiences will have on the creative community overall?

Austin Millz: I would love for it to just expand people’s thoughts. There’s people that are still on the fence about using this technology or AI, and I hope that the Meta Sonic Listening Party experience could move people one step closer to express their thoughts and really live a little, and take a risk in allowing themselves to embrace this new technology. That’s the way of the future, so I feel like Meta is really leading the force with this next wave of technology. I hope that users who had second thoughts about using it can now go, “You know what? Let me just embrace this and embrace the future.”

How have the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses played a role in your day-to-day creative process or interactions?

Austin Millz: Honestly, like I said earlier, it’s really something that I’m looking forward to using at my live shows. It’s an easier way to capture content for something that I could have been using another device for but instead I can just have the glasses  on my face, recording live. Like I said, it is an easier way to use technology in a way that hasn’t been done before.

Anything else that you would like to share with the YourEDM readers?

Austin Millz: Yes. I’m going on a headline tour in 2024 end of February until June. Go get your tickets on AustinMillz.com and, yeah, I want to see you all at a show soon! Happy New Year!

Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To This Weekend

    [ad_1]

    Aannnnddd we’re
back with another weekend playlist curated by yours truly. Luckily enough for all of us, this time of year is a hotspot for releasing new music. As I mentioned last week, we are now witnessing the competition for Song Of The Summer, and honestly I don’t know if we’ve heard it yet.

So this week I’m feeling extra hopeful that more music is here to get us through these next few hot months. Nothing complements those days spent roasting on the beach quite like having a playlist to get you through. It’s almost as essential as staying hydrated and wearing sunscreen –
    almost.

Every week, I’m scouring Spotify New Music Friday playlists, I’m taking in recommendations, and I’m listening to the songs myself. I’m specifically choosing songs that will stand out to you and your friends as you pack your schedule with weekend getaways and parties on rooftops.

This week, we have new music from the lovely Lewis Capaldi, Popdust favorite Austin Millz, and more…so it’s turning out to be one of my fave playlists yet.
Here’s my new playlist of songs that came out around today, May 19.

Lewis Capaldi – Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent

The thing about Lewis Capaldi is that he will never disappoint. His voice is unmatched, leaving nothing to be desired and everything on the table. It’s what got him chart-topping records like “Someone You Loved” and “Before You Go”, and this new album is no exception. After a raw documentary and vulnerable, triumphant singles like “Wish You The Best” and “Haven’t You Ever Been In Love Before?”, this album is classic Capaldi, but with a new glimpse inside.

Austin Millz & Alina Baraz – “Breathless”

It’s been a big year so far for Austin Millz, who we’ve covered releasing “Inhale/Exhale” with Sabrina Claudio and “Freeway” with Estelle. He’s performed at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix and in Coachella’s Heineken House, and now he’s here releasing “Breathless” alongside Alina Baraz. Pair Millz’ ability to make a catchy beat and Baraz’ smooth, summery vocals and your transported into another world with “Breathless”.

Bad Bunny – “Where She Goes”

You already know you will be hearing this at every bar and club you enter for the foreseeable future. “Where She Goes” sends you right to the club with a punchy beat and his silky voice gliding throughout the whole track. The shocking part is that this music video features Frank Ocean, who has barely been seen the last decade. The video is riddled with other stars like Lil Uzi Vert and soccer star Ronaldinho.

Lana Del Rey – “Say Yes To Heaven”

It only made sense for Lana Del Rey to finally release “Say Yes To Heaven” after the unreleased version blew up on TikTok. It’s an essential Lana song, with her unique tone and crooning sound that sends you back to sometime far in the past. Her voice is like the summer, and this single is just what you need alongside you at the beach.

    Post Malone – “Mourning”

With a new album coming soon and more live performances on deck, Post Malone is constantly showing us how a hit record is made. It’s his classic tone, a little sprinkling of vulnerability, and a must-listen. If it’s any indication of what the rest of the album sounds like, you won’t want to miss it.

  • What We’re Listening To This Weekend: Your Friday Playlist

What We’re Listening To This Weekend: Your Friday Playlist

    [ad_1]

    I
love listening to music. You’ve probably gathered that if you’ve seen or read any of my interviews…but it’s true! Music makes the world go round.

Especially on the weekends when the weather is this nice. It’s almost sinful not to curate a playlist and spend time outside with my friends. Everyone goes to me for playlist recs, so I’m constantly on the lookout for new tunes that everyone will like.

There’s a constant stream of new songs every week, and I’m here to give you your ultimate weekend playlist with the best new music out there. If you’re looking for something to freshen up your Spotify or Apple Music repertoire…here’s my picks for this week’s Friday Playlist!

Lewis Capaldi “Wish You The Best”

Lewis Capaldi is one of music’s greatest voices right now. With crooning vocals and lyrics to shatter anyone’s heart…”Wish You The Best” is a Capaldi classic. A breakup anthem that is soon to hit radio stations on repeat, “WYTB” is everything a fan could ask for and more.

Hot off a new documentary, a few new singles, and a busy 2023, Lewis’ new single is the perfect relaxing intro to your weekend playlist.

Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj “Princess Diana”

To get the party started, we have Queen Nicki Minaj pairing with Princess Ice Spice on Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana.” Ice Spice has quickly risen to stardom in the music world, gaining respect and recognition from some of the world’s biggest rappers. Her face is seen on billboards everywhere following her TikTok famous track “Boy’s A Liar.”

“Princess Diana” is the track that makes you want to get up and dance with your friends. It’s ready for pregame playlists across the country, and just in time for a great weekend.

Lauren Spencer Smith ft. GAYLE and Em “Fantasy”

Lauren Spencer Smith knows a thing or two about toxic relationships. Combine her talent with GAYLE, who wrote breakup anthem “abcdefu” and Em Beihold, and you have yourself a hit record. It’s empowering, it’s refreshing, and it’s worthy of a listen.

Spencer Smith is the breakthrough act of 2022, and “Fantasy” solidifies that. She’s a talented singer-songwriter who can relate to any listener.

    Austin Millz, ESTELLE “Freeway”

DJ Austin Millz has released EDM banger “Freeway” with the legendary ESTELLE. You may know ESTELLE’s vocals from “American Boy (ft. Kanye West)”, but “Freeway” takes you to a whole new world of dance beats and club vibes. It could make anyone feel like they’re at a club in Ibiza.

You won’t want to miss Austin Millz this year, who has already had a few major singles. “Freeway” is all good vibes and makes you feel the way music should: like an escape to a far away oasis.

    Quinn XCII, “Georgia Peach”

With Quinn XCII’s smooth vocals and his even catchier lyrics, “Georgia Peach” is your summer anthem. It’s perfectly paired with a glass of wine on the beach, reminiscent of good times. It literally makes you want to go outside and have fun.

An accompanying music video with TikTok’s finest @Octopusslover8 (Jake Shane) and an upcoming tour in May with A R I Z O N A and Julia Wolf, it truly is the summer of Quinn. He talked about his new album,
The People’s Champ, with Popdust recently!

    Lyn Lapid, “poster boy”

20 year-old Lyn Lapid is making a name for herself in the music industry right now. With a sophomore EP lurking in the shadows, “poster boy” is the latest single from a much-anticipated body of work. Her previous single “Do U Really” enforces Lyn Lapid’s insane talent.

Lyn was discovered after launching her mega-successful TikTok page, which garnered 1 billion views and 5 million followers in no time. “poster boy” is the perfect introduction to Lyn’s music..not to be missed.

  • Austin Millz and Sabrina Claudio Release “Inhale / Exhale”

Austin Millz and Sabrina Claudio Release “Inhale / Exhale”

    [ad_1]

Austin Millz, the Harlem-born DJ extraordinaire, is back with a new single featuring one of the biggest names currently in R&B: Sabrina Claudio. With Sabrina’s smooth-flowing vocals and Austin’s catchy, dance-worthy beats, “Inhale / Exhale” is the perfect track to pair with your parties this summer. It’s our first glimpse into the world of Austin Millz’ upcoming EP, Breathwork, reminiscent of euphoric moments with beats and sounds to match.

    Austin says,

“Inhale / Exhale is a track that embodies emotion. Sabrina was the perfect co-star for this and the only person that I thought could bring this track to life and she did. It’s a feeling of dance floor euphoria while still bringing feelings through. It’s full of life, emotion, color and, energy while still maintaining that Harlem bounce that I capture in my music. I’m so excited for this to be my lead single to my upcoming EP, Breathwork.”

“Inhale / Exhale” is the lead into a very busy spring and summer for Austin Millz, who plans to release his EP alongside a North American tour titled, “The Breathwork Tour”, starting this April. This single featuring Sabrina Claudio – who’s previously collaborated with artists including Khalid, shows that Millz is able to create a smash hit while intermingling genres. It’s an exciting taste of what’s to come in the future.

Millz has remixed songs featuring Nina Simone and Mariah Carey, seamlessly blended sounds spanning across multiple genres, and he’s released remixes of Fred Again and Swedish House Mafia’s “Turn Off The Lights” or Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody.” With “Inhale / Exhale,” he is proving time and time again that the electronic music industry wouldn’t be the same without him.

Austin Millz is constantly going viral on TikTok with his sounds, accounting for 10% of all of the music on Instagram Reels and 15 billion views across social media. He’s a force to be reckoned with, and “Inhale / Exhale” is no exception. You can listen to the single here:

Austin Millz spoke exclusively to Popdust about his new single and the future!

Congratulations on your new single “Inhale / Exhale!” What was it like working with Sabrina Claudio for this track?

Thank you so much! Sabrina was a pleasure and a true star to work with. She is an amazing writer and when she went into the booth to record it felt like magic. I knew we had one!

What was your favorite memory of making “Inhale / Exhale?”

My favorite memory of making Inhale / Exhale was just the whole session in its entirety. There were a lot of laughs and dancing, just good vibes overall.

You create music that blends multiple genres. Do you have a favorite?

I have no favorite genre in particular. I love blending sounds and doing things out of the box, so picking one specific one could do no justice.

Is there a genre you’d like to delve into or a collab you’d like to do in the future?

I would like to delve into jazz and incorporate that more in music in the future.

You like to combine soul and dance sounds in your music, remixing Mariah Carey and Nina Simone. How do you find inspiration when creating these tracks?

Honestly, it stems from my childhood and my upbringing in Harlem, New York. These sounds bring me back to the days of growing up and it just resonates with me in a positive way.

You’re looking forward to your North American tour, “The Breathwork Tour.” What’s your favorite part of performing live?

My favorite part of performing live is bringing that energy to life! And seeing people from all walks of life coming together for the greater good of music. I love seeing different cultures coming together and having a good time.

What’s something you’re most looking forward to with your music in 2023?

What I’m looking forward to the most is for people to hear and experience the music that I’ve been making. I’m so proud of it!
