William Pratt, the father of former reality TV personality-turned mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, attempted to extinguish a fire at a home under construction in the Pacific Palisades on Friday afternoon, he confirmed to NBC Los Angeles.

Heavy fire was reported at the two-story, single-family home on Northfield Street between El Medio Avenue and North Almar Street just before 4 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Fire officials say the first firefighters arrived at the home just six minutes after it was initially reported.

William Pratt told NBCLA that he was on his way to his property in the Palisades when he saw the fire and stopped to try to help.

“I’m sad I had to spend two to three minutes looking for the hose bib to the house and another two to three minutes getting the hose untangled and hooked up,” he wrote in a text message to NBCLA on Sunday. “Each second was like a lifetime.”

A spokesperson for the LAFD confirmed that William Pratt made the 911 call on Friday afternoon to report the blaze while in the area.

William Pratt, who lost his home in the 2025 Palisades Fire, said the situation gave him “a little PTSD.”

“I did my best to put it out,” he said. “It just grew way too fast.”

When firefighters arrived, they took an offensive approach and were able to stop the growing fire nearly 20 minutes later, the LAFD said. About 34 firefighters responded to the blaze.

A neighbor was spraying water on the fire in an attempt to stop the fire from spreading to their home, an LAFD spokesperson said, adding that there was no confirmation that William Pratt was also involved in spraying water before firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported, officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Spencer Pratt, a Republican and husband of fellow ex-reality star Heidi Montag, ran for Los Angeles mayor after the Palisades Fire destroyed both his and his parents’ homes, among thousands of others. He has repeatedly criticized Mayor Karen Bass and other city officials over their handling of the blaze that broke out on Jan. 7, 2025. He finished third in this year’s mayoral primary race, missing the cutoff for the November runoff.

According to the County of Los Angeles’ damage inspection report, the home that caught fire Friday, located just west of Palisades High School, sustained minor damage during the Palisades Fire. A detached garage on the property was destroyed in the 2025 fire.

The Palisades Fire was one of the most destructive wildfires on record in California. It scorched 23,400 acres, killed 12 people and destroyed more than 6,800 structures, including some homes and businesses.

When asked about Friday’s fire, the property owner, Natasha Mandich, shared with NBCLA on Sunday her gratitude and wished to thank all those who were involved in putting it out.
