Powerball top prize jumps to $1.7 billion after no winners Monday

The Powerball jackpot continues to climb the list of biggest prizes of all time.

No ticket matched all six winning numbers Monday night, sending the jackpot to $1.7 billion for the next drawing Wednesday night.

At $1.7 billion, the top prize is the fourth-largest in the game’s history. There have been 47 straight drawings without the jackpot being won.

The biggest U.S. jackpot was $2.04 billion in 2022. The winner bought the ticket in California and opted for a lump-sum payment of $997.6 million.

The odds of winning Wednesday’s jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball’s website.

If it’s claimed Wednesday, the winner can opt for a lump-sum payment estimated at $781.3 million or an annuitized prize estimated at $1.7 billion. Both prize options are before taxes.

Powerball is available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is overseen by the Multi-State Lottery Association, a nonprofit group made up of state lotteries.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play.
