Ahmedabad: The new Sabarmati Riverfront land development plan has done away with a large portion of land reservation. Under the new plan, part of the area which was designated as ‘dhobi ghat’ on the eastern part of the river has been redesignated as “multi-purpose land” to be developed as ‘Vadvan’ (banyan tree park).
A 91% reduction in space designated for the central business district (CBD) has been proposed in the new plan. “In the original plan, the CBD area was 56,680 square metres. This has been reduced to a little above 5,000 square metres.
Similarly, space designated for sports activities has been reduced by 41%,” said a senior AMC official.
The new plan also excludes 49,000 square metres of Shankar Bhuvan slum cluster from the development area, as SRFDCL does not have a slum redevelopment policy. Another 20,000 square metres of plot adjacent to SVP Hospital has also been dropped from the latest plan.
