Montgomery Drive put on a benefit show for Uncle Lou at the Abbey this week. The lineup featured Control This!, Debt Neglector, Sally Wants, Miracle, 0 Miles Per Hour and Dial Drive.
Uncle Lou, whose real name is Cleon Ortille Williams, was booked into Orange County Jail in early May on an immigration hold. He was later taken into ICE custody, and has since accepted deportation to Jamaica after weeks of hearings, legal filings and uncertainty. A longtime icon in Orlando’s arts and nightlife community, Williams has worked to uplift local musicians and artists for years. His detainment has spurred immediate action from the community, including fundraisers, benefit shows and solidarity across the city.
Though hope is in short supply right now, there was still comfort to be found in coming together for the cause. All proceeds from Wednesdays show were donated to Williams.
