DENVER (KDVR) — A Democratic candidate for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District issued a message to President Joe Biden on Tuesday: Withdraw.

Adam Frisch, a self-described Western Slope businessman, said in a campaign email sent Tuesday that he doesn’t believe either presidential front-runner candidate should be running for U.S. president.

“Only in politics is stating the obvious rarely done,” Frisch began. “It has been clear to me for some time – and the debate only reinforced it – neither candidate should be running for President. We need a President that can unite America to realize our nation’s unlimited potential.”

Frisch wasn’t the first Democrat to call for Biden’s withdrawal. Biden’s performance during last week’s presidential debate caused immediate panic among supporters, leading many to question whether the 81-year-old career politician is the strongest Democratic candidate to take on former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, in November.

“We deserve better,” Frisch continued. “President Biden should do what’s best for the country and withdraw from the race.

Frisch went on to thank Biden for “his years of service,” and said a new generation is required to lead the nation forward. In an unlisted YouTube video, Frisch added that he’s been “worried about the state of the presidential race” for some time.

“Neither candidate is fit for office, but only Joe Biden has the power and decency to move us forward by stepping aside and passing the baton to the next generation of leadership,” Frisch’s video description states.

Frisch added that he believes there is “far more that unites us than divides us.”

“As I have said many times, I am not focused on Team Democrat or Team Republican, but Team CD3,” Frisch said.

Frisch is running in a district that’s had national attention for its current representative, Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican who is now running for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District and also a candidate endorsed by Trump.

Frisch’s statement comes hours after Texas Rep. Lloyd Doggett publicly called on Biden to step down as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

Doggett represents an Austin-based district and is serving his 15th term in Congress. He is the first sitting lawmaker in his party to publicly state his opinion on Biden’s nomination since last week’s debate.

Doggett’s explosive statement came minutes after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told MSNBC that she believes “it is a legitimate question” whether Biden’s halting performance is just “an episode or is this a condition.”

“When people ask that question, it’s legitimate — of both candidates,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi said she had not spoken with Biden since the debate, but she emphasized that the president is on “top of his game, in terms of knowing the issues and what is at stake.”
