The American Heart Association, devoted to changing the future to a world of healthier lives for all, has announced Alex Almazan as the chair of the Southeast Board of Directors for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
He is the founder and managing partner of Almazan Law, a Florida-based, minority-owned litigation and defense firm. A dedicated American Heart Association volunteer leader, he has held key leadership roles, including chair of the former Greater Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Board, chair of the Miami Heart Walk and leader of the Association’s National Cultural and Engagement Committee. His leadership has also shaped national initiatives through service on committees focused on strategic planning and mission advancement.
Almazan’s reappointment reflects a strong commitment to building on recent momentum across the Southeast while expanding the organization’s reach, strengthening community partnerships and inspiring leaders to join the fight against heart disease and stroke. During his second term as chair, Almazan is focused on expanding engagement with the next generation through student-led Heart Clubs in high schools and colleges, driving deeper corporate participation through Heart Walks, and strengthening community impact through local boards across the Southeast region.
“The Southeast is one of the most diverse and high-need regions in the country when it comes to cardiovascular health,” said Almazan. “There is real work left to do, and I am grateful to continue doing it alongside a team that takes that seriously.”
The American Heart Association Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Board members will assist the organization in guiding efforts to reduce the incidences of heart disease and stroke, the Nos. 1 and 5 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.
