On the Street at New York Fashion Week

I’ve been covering Fashion Week for 12 years and spend on average more than 75 hours photographing shows and the style on the street.

The shows have been staged at uptown museums, Midtown office buildings and the downtown apartment of a convicted felon (the fake German heiress Anna Delvey).

As is often the case, the style in the crowds outside the shows has rivaled that of the runway.

Photographers pack the streets outside the shows to capture the parade of guests coming and going.

Sometimes I have only seconds to get a shot, but that is often all the time I need.

Street style is constantly informing runway fashion, and vice versa. This attendee’s hair, for instance, channels the wet look that has become a popular motif among some designers.

This attendee’s jacket and pants showcase the preference for relaxed silhouettes that many people developed during the pandemic.
