Woman Says Her 40th Birthday Dinner at Cipriani Beverly Hills Ended in a $1,300 Nightmare

Woman Says Her 40th Birthday Dinner at Cipriani Beverly Hills Ended in a ,300 Nightmare

Special occasions often come with high expectations, especially when they have been planned for months. But when something goes wrong, the experience can quickly become more memorable for the disappointment than the celebration itself.

That appears to be what happened after a TikTok creator, @comfywith_kerry, said her 40th birthday dinner quickly turned into a disappointing experience. She says the restaurant’s handling of the evening overshadowed the celebration.

In a TikTok video, the creator said her boyfriend had spent months planning a special dinner for her 40th birthday. After heavy rain forced them to cancel their original reservation, he booked a table at Cipriani Beverly Hills, which she says they chose because of its jazz-themed dining experience.

Things started going wrong as soon as they arrived

She said her boyfriend specifically requested a reservation in the jazz dining room and also confirmed in advance that they could bring a birthday cake. She says the restaurant approved the request and informed him there would be a $4-per-slice cake-cutting fee. However, she says that changed once they arrived.

The creator says the hostess told them they had a dinner reservation but not one for the jazz room. She says her boyfriend explained that the music was the main reason they chose the restaurant, but they were told nothing could be done.

She says they decided to stay rather than look for another restaurant. “The first thing they should have done was be like, listen, we don’t have room for dinner up there right now. But because you called and made this reservation, and it’s her 40th birthday, we’re gonna try our very best to still make this night special for you.” She says that never happened.

The creator also criticized the food, saying the portions did not justify the prices. She described paying around $35 to $40 for pasta while claiming the ravioli serving was unusually small. “Chef Boyardee from the grocery store has better ravioli than Cypriani.”

She also complained about the drinks, saying one Bellini appeared much smaller than expected. The biggest disagreement came when it was time to bring out the birthday cake.

She says staff informed the group they could place the cake on the table but would not sing “Happy Birthday” and initially would not allow them to serve it in the restaurant despite previously approving it over the phone. The creator says her boyfriend became visibly upset after hearing the decision.

“You guys better f—— bring out this cake, or I’m not paying for this bill.” Another employee eventually agreed to serve the cake but still charged the previously discussed cake-cutting fee.

The creator says the group ordered entrees, drinks, and two appetizers before receiving a final bill totaling about $1,300, including an automatic gratuity. “Do not go to Cipriani’s.”

The video drew mixed reactions online. One viewer wrote, “Cipriani is literally famous for their desserts. Bringing an outside cake there is embarrassing by itself. That’s just not the vibe of that restaurant.”

Another commented, “You seem delightful, I can’t imagine why they were cold to you…” Others said the prices were no surprise. “If your boyfriend did a bunch of planning for this night, you’d think he’d know what the prices of the restaurant he’s going to are.”

The story comes after another viral restaurant incident in which a Beverly Hills rooftop restaurant charged a couple $110 to cut and serve their own birthday cake. That experience also split viewers, with some blaming the restaurant and others saying the couple should have expected the fee. In another recent case, a Texas woman said a hibachi restaurant embarrassed her after a payment issue during a holiday meal, with viewers also split over who was at fault.
