A person was arrested in connection with a shooting in Koreatown Thursday evening near where a large watch party was taking place for the World Cup game between Mexico and South Korea, police said.
The Los Angeles Police Department said it received reports about a person shooting into the air near Irolo Street and James M Wood Boulevard around 6:40 p.m. Shortly after, police say they received more calls about a person who got into a fight with a group near James M Wood Boulevard and Normandie Avenue.
The suspect then fired rounds at a person, who was taken to the hospital and remained in stable condition, according to the LAPD.
Police say the suspect was taken into custody and expected to face assault charges related to the shooting.
It’s unclear if the suspect and victim were related to the watch party.
Following the game, the LAPD issued a city-wide tactical alert, allowing more officers to respond to Koreatown to assist with crowd control. As of 10:30 p.m., no arrests have been made in relation to fans not dispersing or vandalism incidents.
This is a developing story that will be updated as more information arrives.
