BROOK PARK, Ohio – The Cleveland Browns and Haslam Sports Group have chosen AECOM Hunt and Turner Constrctuion Company to build Ohio’s first enclosed stadium.
The 67,500-seat venue will also include an entertainment district to spur economic growth in the long term.
Haslam leadership said they want to give eventgoers and Cleveland residents a top-tier experience.
“Partnering with such respected and accomplished construction managers as AECOM Hunt and Turner will help us create a world-class stadium experience and entertainment district for our fans that will benefit the entire Northeast Ohio region,” said Haslam Sports Group President David Jenkins.
The stadium is set to be built in suburban Brook Park, next to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The choice to move from the downtown stadium following the completion of the team’s 30-year lease has not been without controversy.
The Browns are paying $1.2 billion for construction and will receive $600 million from the state.
The “Super Theater” could host several enormous events such as NCAA Final Fours, international soccer matches and concerts up to 75,000 people. Some of the event center’s most noteworthy upgrades from the previous stadium would be closet seats, a flexible capacity concept, a translucent roof and an unprecedented roofing system.
“The New Huntington Bank Field represents a new era for Northeast Ohio – and for reimagining what a fan experience can be,” said Jason Kopp, COO, Central Region, AECOM Hunt. “We are honored to be entrusted by Haslam Sports Group to deliver this transformative project to shape the future of sports and entertainment for Browns Nation, elevate Northeast Ohio, and welcome millions of visitors for generations to come.”
AECOM began working on the new stadium on Oct. 1. The new Huntington Bank Field and entertainment district is expect be open in 2029.
