The DeLand Police Department arrested a suspect accused of a deadly shooting that happened early Saturday morning.Police said around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a home on W. Haven Road about a report of a suspicious man hiding in the backyard. Officers located the man, identified as 22-year-old Edgar Martinez-Hernandez, on the side of the house. Detectives said Martinez-Hernandez matched the description of the shooting suspect and was found with a loaded firearm. Officers took him into custody without incident. As of Sunday morning, Martinez-Hernandez was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon. This comes after officers were dispatched to the area of West Beresford Avenue and South Parsons Avenue at 3:51 a.m. Saturday for a person shot. Officers found a person with a gunshot wound lying in the roadway when they arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released at this time.Kizzie Hayward said she was in the neighborhood when the shooting happened, and said she heard gunshots.”I was looking at the TV and it was loud, it was so close,” she said. “When I got out the door everyone was screaming call 911.”Detectives believed the suspect was last seen wearing black shoes, black pants, a white shirt and carrying a black backpack.
