One person was killed and another was hospitalized in critical condition after they were hit by a car in Fort Worth early Sunday morning. The suspected driver was later arrested, police said.
The suspect, 27-year-old Saul Montanez, faces charges of collision involving death and serious bodily injury, according to jail records.
Officers responded to the auto-pedestrian crash about 1 a.m. near the Salvation Army center in the 1800 block of East Lancaster Avenue, police said.
When officers arrived at the hit-and-run scene, they found the two victims. One victim was pronounced dead on the scene and the other was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said Montanez fled prior to officers’ arrival. Later, officers found the suspect’s vehicle and Montanez was taken into custody.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim who died after the next of kin have been notified.
Traffic Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the crash, police said.
