The original cast member explained where development on the long discussed sequel currently stands. They also shared new details about the progress of the script.

    Ke Huy Quan discussed the status of The Goonies sequel in an interview with ComicBook while promoting Zootopia 2. He said he has not read the script but confirmed that a second draft has been completed. Quan explained, “I first heard about it when I saw Steven Spielberg at an event and he was so excited,” and added, “We try to do it, so let’s manifest it. I know we’ve been trying for the last 40 years, but I feel quite good about it.”

    Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg are developing the sequel, Quan said. He noted the progress on the script, stating, “I read he turned in the second draft and they’re really happy about it.” He also told Fortune Feimster, “We’re gonna do it. I want her to be in it,” while confirming that he wants to play Richard “Data” Wang again. He said, “I would love to revisit that character and go on another adventure with my Goonies brothers and sisters.”

    Potsy Ponciroli joined the project as the screenwriter when the announcement was made earlier in the year. Warner Bros. reported in January that the team had begun work on a sequel, and the studio confirmed in February that the film was officially moving forward. The 1985 film was a hit and later entered the United States National Film Registry for its cultural significance.

    Josh Brolin shared information about earlier drafts in August (via Entertainment Online). He said writers had produced several scripts in previous years, but the team did not approve them. Reports at the time noted that these versions did not align with the direction the studio intended to pursue.

    Quan’s comments about a completed second draft marked the latest step in the ongoing development of a new Goonies film.

    November is always a very quiet month for Lego, coming after a big summer and fall calendar and sitting before that mountain of new sets that always comes in January. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t some good stuff coming.

    Just two sets are releasing from Lego at the start of November (with a mystery third coming a little later in the month—more on that later), including the recently revealed Goonies set and a lavish brick-built aquarium.     The latest addition to the Lego Ideas line brings the beloved ’80s movie to life in the form of a very clever replica of One-Eyed Willy’s pirate ship. One side faithfully recreates the exterior of the Inferno, while the other recreates a bunch of iconic scenes from throughout the film, from the famous skeleton organ to the litany of traps the kids face, and even a nod to the famous deleted octopus attack scene. On top of that, you get a whopping 12 minifigures, including all the Goonies—Brand, Andy, Data, Mouth, Mikey, Stef, Chunk, and Sloth—as well as the villainous Fratelli family and even the remains of Willy himself ($330, available here from 11/1 through 11/3 for Lego Insiders members, from 11/4 general release)

    Lego’s other big release of the month is a very artsy aquarium set. There’s not much water to be found in this 3D model, save for a back plate within the “tank” itself, but it does come packed with a plethora of buildable underwater flora and fauna, including moveable corals, a scuttling sea crab, and even a moving, wiggling fish. Clocking in at over 4,000 pieces, it’s a hefty size, with the final model coming in at over 20.5 inches wide—you’ll have to get rid of your actual fish tank if you want to display this! ($480, available here from 11/13 through 11/15 for Lego Insiders members, from 11/16 general release)

    Lego Gifts With Purchase In November 2025

    Although there aren’t many new Lego sets available this month, you can get a few extra goodies this month based on what you’re picking up. Both the Goonies set and the Tropical Aquarium will both receive their own special bonuses for grabbing them—the former will get a small replica of the Walshes’ attic (we waxed lyrical about it here), while the latter gets a very cute buildable fish tank filter, complete with fish food. We’ll be learning more about it next week on November 6, when Lego will hold a livestream to reveal the new set, as well as its accompanying gift with purchase bonus. The company invites fans to “jump aboard” to discover the new set, which has already prompted plenty of speculation—something with a nautical theme? The recently teased and highly anticipated Star Trek set? Something to do with Stranger Things, to tie in with the launch of the final season around the same time? We’ll find out soon.

  • This Tiny Lego ‘Goonies’ Set Makes the Big One Even Better

    As glorious as Lego’s upcoming set based on The Goonies is, it’s actually better than you think. Here’s why. Last week, Lego revealed a massive new set based on the hit 1985 film. On the one side, it’s One-Eyed Willy’s ship from the end of the film. On the other side, multiple rooms capture stages of the adventure the characters go on throughout the story. It’s basically everything you love about The Goonies in one beautiful build. But, there are a few scenes missing, and it turns out Lego is bringing one extra room to life.

    If you buy The Goonies set starting next month, it will come with a second set of the Walsh attic. What the heck is that? Well, the attic is where the whole adventure starts. The place where Mikey brings his friends to look at his dad’s collection of artifacts, and they discover the first clues of the adventure. It’s a small set, only 179 pieces, but it’s so nerdy and specific that we are almost more excited about it than the full thing. Here are some images before we geek out fully.

    If you’re a fan of The Goonies, you probably have all the same feelings I do. Let’s start with the painting. That you can own, in Lego, the painting that Mouth sticks his tongue through is almost worth the cost of both sets. At least in my opinion. That has to be one of the funniest and best little Lego creations in forever.

    And that’s only part of it. There’s the pirate hat they pass around. There’s the “laser beams” that Chunk plays with. Of course, there’s also the framed map that starts this whole thing. And we love the addition of the poster for the Lighthouse Diner. Which we don’t think is in the movie, especially since it promotes “Veal Scallopini,” a funny nod to the film. (And is oddly spelled wrong?)

    Also, never in my wildest dreams did I think I needed mini-figs of Mr. and Mrs. Walsh, but now it’s all I want in the world. But no Rosalita? Come on.

    Basically, this set is a dream for a Goonies fan. A must-buy even without the bigger set. But that it comes with it for free makes that bigger set even better. You can pre-order The Goonies Lego set (which comes with the attic set for a limited time) starting on November 1 for Lego VIPs and November 4 for everyone else.

    Lego certainly loves itself a ship—from Pirates of the Caribbean to One Piece (and of course, all those classic Lego Pirate sets of yore), if the brick builder knows one thing, it’s how to make an impressive vessel. So perhaps The Goonies is the perfect movie for Lego to set its eyes on for its latest, lavish set.

    Today Lego revealed its next release in the fan-design-supported Lego Ideas line will be a huge, 2,912-piece set inspired by the Inferno from the film. One side will faithfully recreate the exterior of the pirate ship commanded by the infamous One-Eyed Willy, while the other will feature vignettes of key scenes from throughout the film. Think the recent Lego Star Wars Death Star, but pirate-ship-shaped and also not $1000 (“just” $310!).

    The replica of the Inferno houses a recreation of Willy’s boulder traps and spike pits, the iconic skeleton organ, and even a nod to the octopus attack scene that was famously cut from the original film. And on top of the set itself, you’ll also get 12 minifigures, giving you not just the Goonies themselves—Brand, Andy, Data, Mouth, Mikey, Stef, and Chunk (and of course Sloth, too)—but also the villainous Fratelli family in the form of Mama Fratelli, Francis, and Jake. To cap it all off, because it would be neither a Lego Goonies set nor a Lego pirate ship set without a skeleton, you also get the remains of One-Eyed Willy too!

  • ‘The Goonies 2’ Is Sailing Closer to Reality

    Goonies never say die, and apparently, neither do sequels. Earlier this year, news broke that after decades of back-and-forth about a follow-up to the fan-favorite 1985 film, The Goonies, Warner Bros. had hired a writer to pen a script. Now, the writer has provided an update that makes it seem like the sequel is getting closer to actually happening.

    Speaking to Deadline at the Venice Film Festival, Goonies 2 writer Potsy Ponciroli provided the following update. “I have turned in a first draft, which was very well received, and I’m on a second draft and I’m about 95% done with that so we’re moving in the right direction,” he said.

    More importantly, he also offered this perspective on what many feel about this movie. “I know there’s a lot of ‘Do we need a new Goonies’,” Ponciroli said, “but I’m the biggest fan of the original. It’s my favorite movie of all time. I’d never ‘redo’ The Goonies. To me, it was a story that never ended so this is the movie I want to see as one of its biggest fans.”

    That Ponciroli is such a fan is good to hear because some, such as original star Josh Brolin, don’t think a sequel is worth doing. “I love The Goonies, [but] it’s been 41 years. Let it lay,” the actor told io9 while promoting Weapons. “I mean, no, I love the idea, but I don’t know. If they made one with different kids, then it becomes a different thing, and I think it taints the original one. I think people get excited, and people who were in the original movie, they get excited about being able to work with that group again because it was such an amazing experience. So do I think it should be done? I don’t know, man. I love it just standing like it does.”

    There’s no word if Brolin’s character, or any of the original characters, are in Ponciroli’s script and without a director attached, things are still a ways off. But for fans of the Richard Donner-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced, and Chris Columbus-written kids adventure, this is the most encouraging news in 40 years.

    Rumor has it that the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic The Goonies is in development.

    It has been almost 40 years since The Goonies premiered and proved to be a major critical and commercial success. The adventure comedy follows the story of four boys—Mikey (Sean Astin), Chunk (Jeff Cohen), Mouth (Corey Feldman), and Data (Ke Huy Quan)—who discover a pirate map while trying to save their homes from foreclosure and set out on an adventure to find a hidden treasure.

    Even nearly 40 years later, the movie remains charming, energetic, and nostalgic for audiences of all ages. However, the film’s lasting legacy and success have led to questions repeatedly arising of why there was never a Goonies 2.

    For decades, the status of The Goonies 2 continuously changed as the cast gave conflicting reports on whether it was in development and who was or wasn’t interested in returning. Finally, in 2014, director Richard Donner confirmed the sequel was officially in the works, and that he was trying to bring back the majority of the original cast.

    However, Donner later also claimed he was going to direct a fifth Lethal Weapon movie, which many expected to be his last project given that he was nearing retirement. When Donner passed away in 2021, this seemed to confirm that The Goonies 2 would never happen, as it was unclear if the cast would return without him. Still, rumors have persisted that the movie could still happen.

    Will The Goonies 2 ever happen?

    Recently, rumors that The Goonies 2 was in development resurfaced. It’s likely that the rumors began to stir due to April Fool’s Day pranks, including one that claimed The Goonies: Curse of the One-Eyed Willy was coming to theaters in 2026, directed by Sam Raimi.

    However, some users are questioning if the poster truly is a prank, given that Movie Insider suddenly created a page for The Goonies 2.

    For now, there is no official confirmation that The Goonies 2 is in development. Still, the chances of a sequel will likely never completely die. After all, Ke Huy Quan, who recently returned to the big screen to critical acclaim, has revealed that he is still open to reprising his role as Data if the sequel ever becomes a reality. However, he also revealed that, despite the movie allegedly entering development multiple times, no scripts were actually ever written for it. Other stars, such as Corey Feldman and Sean Astin, have also expressed openness to the sequel while still admitting it likely won’t ever happen.

    Ultimately, there is no evidence that The Goonies 2 is happening, but the possibility of there being a sequel someday still remains.

    Nostalgic ’80s film fans can now own the very property where the “Truffle Shuffle” was first put out into the world.

    The classic Victorian-style home where the gang from The Goonies plotted out their treasure hunt is up for sale.

    The Astoria, Ore., property was listed earlier this month by Jordan Miller of John L. Scott Real Estate for US$1.65 million.

    Cinephiles will be stoked to learn the home’s exterior remains very true to the 1985 film, although the window casings and door are now orange, not red. Also missing, somewhat disappointingly, is the Rube Goldberg machine that powered the home’s front gate and was featured in the movie’s opening scenes.

    Nevertheless, the historic home, which was built in 1896, measures 1,935 sq. ft. and includes four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The current owner gave the home a recent refresh, with an updated kitchen, new carpet and fresh paint.

    And let’s not forget the amazing ladder that led the Goonies into the attic where they discovered the map to One Eyed-Willie’s gold — that remains in the house, too.

    The home also features sweeping views of the Columbia River flowing into the Pacific Ocean and the listing describes it as “fully loaded with history, nostalgia and iconic level of fame.”

    Miller told The Associated Press that he’s had a few parties express interest in the home with the intent of making it more accessible to movie fans.

    “It seems to be everybody’s intention to be able to open up the house a little bit more and have more access,” he said.


    The current owner of “The Goonies” house gave the home a refresh, with a renovated kitchen.

    And that’s certainly a plan that would prove popular with Goonies groupies. AP reports that the current owner, Sandi Preston, has been largely welcoming of the visitors who have flocked to see the iconic house, but has been forced to close the home’s property to foot traffic at times.

    After the film’s 30th anniversary drew about 1,500 daily visitors in 2015, Preston posted “no trespassing” signs prohibiting tourists from walking up to the property. She reopened it to the public this past August.

    The new owner might also have their work cut out for them in terms of keeping the peace with their neighbours.


    Every level of the home has clear views of the bay, the bridge and the city.

    City officials, who restricted parking in the area, have long sought to mediate the tensions between residents and the fans hoping to see and photograph the location.

    “While the owner of this location from The Goonies is a fan of the movie and enjoys chatting with visitors making the trek to Astoria to see the film locations, as you can imagine, it gets hard having hundreds of people crowding into your personal space every single day,” the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce wrote in August on a Facebook page they administer called Goonies Day in Astoria, Oregon .

    However, Miller insists that the home would make a “fun buy.”

    “Whoever buys the house is going to have a relatively steady stream of extremely happy people walking up outside to fulfill their childhood dreams.”

    The Goonies house isn’t the only nostalgic cinema home to hit the market recently. Earlier this month it was announced that the Cleveland, Ohio, home featured in A Christmas Story is also up for sale.
