  • Nick Reiner pleads not guilty in the killing of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner

    [ad_1]

Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles on Monday in the killing of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Nick Reiner, 32, was charged with two counts of murder in the first degree in the fatal stabbings at the couple’s home in LA’s Brentwood neighborhood in December. His public defender, Kimberly Greene, entered the not guilty plea on her client’s behalf.

Reiner sat in court behind his attorney in a glass-enclosed custody area. His head was shaved and he wore brown jail clothes.

Reiner spoke briefly during the arraignment, saying “yes” when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Theresa McGonigle asked him to acknowledge waiving a speedy preliminary hearing in his case, as requested by his attorney. During a preliminary hearing, prosecutors present the main evidence supporting the charges and a judge decides if it’s enough for the case to move forward.

McGonigle scheduled Reiner’s next hearing for April 29 and ordered that he continue to be held without bail.

If convicted, Reiner could face the death penalty or a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said after Monday’s hearing that prosecutors were going through a process to determine whether to seek the death penalty.

“We take the process in which we determine whether or not the death penalty should be sought extremely seriously, and it goes through a very rigorous process,” Hochman said outside the courthouse. “We will be looking at all aggravating and mitigating circumstances.”

Hochman said Reiner’s attorney has been invited to present arguments for prosecutors to consider.

The case was proceeding on track, Hochman said. He said most of the evidence has been provided to Reiner’s attorney and that prosecutors were waiting for the coroner’s report.

Reiner is being represented by Greene after his defense attorney, Alan Jackson, unexpectedly withdrew from the case at what was supposed to be Reiner’s arraignment in January. Last year, Jackson successfully defended Karen Read against murder and manslaughter charges in the high-profile Massachusetts case over the death of her boyfriend, a Boston police officer.

In the Reiner case, Jackson told reporters outside the courthouse he had to step aside due to “circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick’s control.”

Jackson didn’t elaborate on the reason, saying he was legally and ethically prohibited from doing so, but he said that Reiner wasn’t guilty of murder “pursuant to the law in California.” Hochman expressed confidence that a jury would convict Reiner.

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to the LA County Medical Examiner.

Nick Reiner, the third of Rob Reiner’s four children, was arrested in the wake of his parents’ deaths, which sent shockwaves through Hollywood. Rob Reiner starred in the 1970s TV series “All in the Family” and went on to direct such hit movies as “This Is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride” and “When Harry Met Sally.”

Nick Reiner entered a plea of not guilty during his third appearance in Los Angeles Superior Court for his scheduled arraignment in the killing of his parentsRob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

The 32-year-old faces two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple murders.

Deputy District Attorney Habib Balian said his office is still awaiting a full autopsy report in the case, but all other evidence has been turned over to the defence.

Reiner appeared in court in an enclosed custody area with his head shaved and wearing brown jail clothes. He talked to his lawyer briefly before the judge began the brief hearing. He spoke only to answer yes to a question from the judge.

“The case is on track. We have provided the bulk of discovery to defence council and we are now waiting for the coroner’s report,” he said.

“This case is a death penalty-eligible case. Along those lines we take the process in which we determine whether or not the death penalty should be sought extremely seriously and it goes through a very rigorous process,” Hochman added.

“We have invited defence counsel to present to us — both in writing and orally — in a meeting, any arguments that they would like to make in consideration for our going forward or not going forward with the death penalty,” Hochman said.

Hochman did not take questions after sharing his statement outside the courthouse. A preliminary hearing has been set for April 29.

“This morning I had to withdraw as Nick Reiner’s counsel. Circumstances beyond our control but more importantly circumstances beyond Nick’s control have dictated that sadly it’s made it impossible for us to continue our representation,” Jackson told reporters outside the courthouse in January.

“I’m legally and ethically prohibited from explaining all the reasons why. I know that’s a question on everybody’s mind. We expect the public defender to step in. They’ve already been appointed and very capably protect Nick Reiner’s interests as he moves forward through the system,” he added.

“Be very, very clear about this — my team and I remain deeply, deeply committed to Nick Reiner and to his best interests,” Jackson said. “In fact we know, we’re not just convinced, we know that the legal process will reveal the true facts of the circumstances surrounding this case.”

“What we’ve learned — and you can take this to the bank — is that pursuant to the law in this state, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder. Print that,” Jackson added.

Reiner’s 78-year-old father and 70-year-old mother were found dead with stab wounds in their home in the upscale Brentwood section of Los Angeles on Dec. 14, 2025, authorities said.

The LA County Medical Examiner said in initial findings that they died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” but released no other details, and police have said nothing about possible motives.

Nick Reiner was arrested hours later and has been held without bail since. He was charged two days later with two counts of first-degree murder.

Hours before the filmmaker and his wife were found dead they had attended Conan O’Brien’s holiday party with their son Nick.

O’Brien recently broke his silence on the deaths of Michele and Rob during an interview with The New Yorker.

“I knew Rob and Michele, and then increasingly got closer and closer to them,” O’Brien said.

“They were just such lovely people,” he said of Rob and Michele. “And to have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they’re gone…. I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward. I mean, there’s no other word for it.”

“It’s just so awful,” O’Brien said of the deaths of Rob and Michele. “And I think about how Rob felt about things that are happening in the country, how involved he was, how much he put himself out there—and to have that voice go quiet in an instant is still hard for me to comprehend.”

Reiner did not enter a plea during a brief first court appearance on Dec. 17. Jackson told the court it was “too early” to enter a plea and that he had already agreed with the prosecution to delay the arraignment until January.

    Story continues below advertisement

Reiner also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced at a news conference on Dec. 16.

These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. No decision about the death penalty has been made as of yet, Hochman added.

“Charges are not evidence,” Hochman said. “Evidence is something we will be presenting in a court of law to meet the standard of proof we meet at every criminal case, which is beyond a reasonable doubt.

“Prosecuting these cases involving family members are some of the most challenging and most heart-wrenching cases that this office faces because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes involved.”

Prosecutors have said they have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.

  • Nick Reiner losing powerhouse defense attorney may come down to money, experts say

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Nick Reiner’s powerhouse defense lawyer, Alan Jackson, had “no choice” but to withdraw from the case Wednesday during what was supposed to be Nick’s first arraignment of the year.

Jackson cited circumstances beyond his and Nick’s control as to why he abruptly stepped down from defending Nick against the double murder charges in the stabbing deaths of Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner.

“Circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick’s control have dictated that,” Jackson said during a press conference outside the courthouse. “Sadly, it’s made it impossible for us to continue our representation of Nick. I’m legally, and I’m ethically prohibited from explaining all the reasons why.”

Criminal defense attorney and Fox News contributor Joshua Ritter believed that Jackson’s hasty withdrawal from the case indicated money issues.

“It sounds like it was simply a mutual parting over a lack of ability to retain a private attorney and, therefore, his only option was that he was left with a public defender,” Ritter told Fox News Digital.

Outside the courthouse, Jackson remained adamant that Nick was “not guilty” of murdering his parents.

“We’ve investigated this matter top to bottom, back to front,” Jackson said. “What we’ve learned – and you can take this to the bank – is that pursuant to the laws of this state, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.”

Jackson arrived at the Reiner home less than 24 hours after the couple’s bodies were discovered. Soon after, he signed on to represent Nick.

Jackson famously defended Karen Read, who was accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, with her car and leaving him to die during a snowstorm. She maintained her innocence throughout two criminal trials, the first ending in a hung jury, before ultimately being found not guilty of murder and manslaughter in the second.

“Sometimes, in these situations, you have to kind of move quickly if you want a lawyer at that first hearing because you only have 48 hours before they’re brought into court,” Ritter said. “So it’s not entirely uncommon that attorneys and clients may come to an agreement on paper, but not exactly the transfer of funds before an attorney will appear in court.”

Seth J. Zuckerman, celebrity criminal defense attorney and founder of Zuckerman Legal Group, and former NYC prosecutor, told Fox News Digital, “It is likely that whoever paid the initial retainer on Nick Reiner’s behalf is unwilling to continue to fund the defense. There may be other issues at play, but we will never know, as Jackson has an ethical responsibility not to disclose.”

Zuckerman noted the three reasons a criminal defense attorney would step down from a case, which included financial issues, conflict of interest or conflict with the client on strategy.

“If Jackson is claiming circumstances beyond Nick’s control have dictated his withdrawal, then we can rule out number three,” Zuckerman said.

Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani agreed that money – or the lack thereof – was most likely the reason Jackson stepped down.

“In the business, we say Mr. Green didn’t show up. Nick can’t pay Jackson. It would be a seven-figure retainer, and he doesn’t have the money. If he did, why would he be living in his parents’ guest house? Maybe his siblings considered paying Jackson but changed their mind.”

He added, “The other possibility is that they disagreed on case strategy. But then another private retained attorney would substitute in and not the public defender’s office. Nick has a chance, but not a good one. Jackson or a public defender will have the same problems with the case.”

Rahmani also explained how under California’s slayer rule, a child who kills their parents cannot inherit from their estate.

Michele Reiner, Rob Reiner, Nick Reiner

“That means they can’t take under a will, trust, life insurance, or act as any other kind of beneficiary,” Rahmani said. “The law presumes the killer predeceased their parents.  A murder conviction in criminal court is enough to trigger the rule. A probate judge can also apply it. Nontraditional assets like intellectual property may be held in separate LLCs or trusts, by the analysis is the same. The murderous heir won’t inherit as a matter of law.”

The 32-year-old was charged in December with two counts of first-degree murder, and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. He remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility after formally being charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents.

Kimberly Greene, the deputy public defender assigned to the case, spoke briefly with Nick Wednesday morning. “He was understanding that there was going to be a change in counsel,” she said. “We haven’t had any in-depth conversations.”

Ritter insisted that the public defender’s office is “well qualified” to handle Nick’s case.

“They handle these types of cases all the time, and they also have the resources to hire … they have investigators who can work on their behalf,” Ritter said. “I’m not trying to take anything away from whatever representation Alan Jackson may have done on his behalf, but I don’t think that this is somehow devastating to his chances.”

A spokesman for the Reiner family told Fox News Digital, “They have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.”

  • Nick Reiner’s attorney withdraws, arraignment postponed again in murders of parents Rob Reiner, Michele Singer Reiner

    [ad_1]

Nick Reiner‘s arraignment was postponed again Wednesday in the murders of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, after his attorney, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case. The arraignment hearing is now scheduled for Feb. 23.

The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office will take over for Jackson and his co-counsel, both of whom stepped down. Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene will represent Nick Reiner, who will remain in custody until the new hearing date. He is being held without bail.

At a news conference after the hearing concluded, Jackson said his team’s withdrawal was due to “circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick’s control,” which “have dictated that, sadly, it’s impossible for us to continue our representation.” Jackson did not provide details and said he was “legally and ethically prohibited from explaining the reasons why.”

Jackson emphasized that his team remained “deeply committed to Nick Reiner and to his best interests.”

Greene declined to answer questions from reporters who asked how Reiner intends to plead, saying they only spoke briefly in court. The public defender added that her office has not had contact with the Reiner family, and the family may not have been “aware of what’s going on.”

A spokesperson for the family said they “have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.”

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the prosecution would make sure Nick Reiner’s defense gets what they need to represent him, and he is “fully confident a jury will find Nick Reiner guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the murder of his parents.”

Reiner, 32, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances after prosecutors said the couple were stabbed to death on Dec. 14 in their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood. The L.A. County medical examiner said they died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”

If convicted as charged, Nick Reiner could face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty, but Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said his office hasn’t decided which to pursue.

A December arraignment was postponed after Reiner appeared in court wearing a suicide prevention smock and shackles. Jackson had said at the time, “There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case,” adding that those issues needed to be “thoroughly but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”

Since the deaths of the couple, details have emerged about Nick Reiner’s struggles with addiction. In 2018, he shared stories on a podcast about how his drug use while traveling cross-country landed him in a hospital, and another about punching walls and destroying a TV after his parents told him he had to leave their guesthouse.

CBS News obtained police records for service calls at the Reiners’ Los Angeles home from August 2013 through December. Over those 12 years, the LAPD responded to the address a total of seven times, including twice on the day the Reiners were found dead.

In 2019, police responded once for a welfare check and again for a mental health call for a male. Records did not indicate who the officers made contact with. The remaining three calls were related to minor disturbances in 2013, 2014 and 2017.

The bodies of the Reiners were found in their home on the afternoon of Dec. 14. Several hours later, Nick Reiner was arrested outside a gas station convenience store in South L.A. He did not resist arrest, according to police.

Rob and Michele Reiner married in 1989 and had three children together. Their other two children, Jake and Romy Reiner, said in a statement last month that they were experiencing “unimaginable pain” after the loss of their parents.

“They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends,” they said.

Alan Jackson, the lawyer representing Nick Reiner, removed himself from the case on Wednesday.

The departure was announced during Reiner’s second appearance in Los Angeles Superior Court for his scheduled arraignment in the killing of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Jackson announced that he is withdrawing from the case, and Reiner will now be represented by public defender Kimberly Greene.

Reiner appeared behind glass in a custody area of the Los Angeles courtroom, wearing brown jail garb and with his hair shaved. Greene asked Judge Theresa McGonigle to postpone his arraignment following Jackson’s withdrawal from the case.

The judge asked Reiner if he was OK with the new arraignment date of Feb. 23, and he replied: “Yeah, I agree.”

McGonigle approved the use of cameras inside the courtroom but said pictures could not be taken of the defendant.

  • Nick Reiner removed from suicide watch ahead of arraignment in parents’ deaths: report

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Nick Reiner, the youngest son of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday and may enter a plea in his first courtroom appearance of the year.

The 32-year-old remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility after formally being charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents.

Sources told People magazine that Nick was removed from suicide watch earlier this week and is being held in solitary confinement where he is required to wear a yellow jail-issued shirt and blue pants.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Reiner’s attorney and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for comment.

During his first courtroom appearance, Reiner wore a blue suicide prevention vest. When the judge asked if Reiner waived his rights, Nick said, “Yes, your honor.”

No decision has been made on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

Seth J. Zuckerman, celebrity criminal defense attorney and founder of Zuckerman Legal Group and former NYC prosecutor, told Fox News Digital that Nick’s defense strategy may hinge on his history with substance abuse.

NICK REINER’S DEFENSE LAWYER ‘AIN’T CHEAP’ BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY IN MURDER CASE, LEGAL EXPERTS SAY

“His mental health and substance abuse will factor heavily into the defense strategy, as the defense will look to argue that he had diminished capacity or couldn’t form the intent necessary for murder charges,” Zuckerman said.

“There may also be a ‘heat of passion’ defense in which the defense argues Nick experienced an uncontrollable rage as a result of an argument, and did not have time to cool off prior to, or premeditate, the killing, thus arguing for manslaughter as opposed to murder.”

“His mental health and substance abuse will factor heavily into the defense strategy …”

Zuckerman added: “The prosecution will evaluate the evidence, including but not limited to physical and forensic evidence of both the home where they were killed and the hotel where Nick Reiner was staying, witness statements, video surveillance, cell phone evidence about prior arguments with his parents, and whether Nick made any statements to the police when he was arrested.”

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Dec. 14. Multiple agencies worked to find and arrest Nick, 32, who was apprehended near the University of Southern California at approximately 9:15 p.m., hours after his parents’ bodies were discovered.

The following day, Jake and Romy Reiner broke their silence on their parents’ deaths.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends,” they told People.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Shortly after his arrest, Nick retained renowned attorney Alan Jackson to lead his defense.

The certificates also confirmed what was previously revealed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office: that the Reiners died due to multiple sharp force injuries. The certificates stated the injuries were caused “with knife, by another.”

  • Chelsea Handler Pays Tribute To Rob Reiner, Goes After David Zaslav & Shouts Out ‘Heated Rivalry’ In Critics Choice Opening Monologue

    [ad_1]

After multiple successful hosting stints at the Critics Choice Awards, comedian Chelsea Handler took the stage at Barker Hangar for the fourth time — paying tribute to the late Rob Reiner, not holding back on shots at Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and Leonardo DiCaprio and even shouting out breakout Crave Canada hit Heated Rivalry.

Sinners is the story of brothers who start this really fun place for entertainment and then vampires show up, suck the life out of everybody and burn it all to the ground. Fun fact: The original name of the main vampire was David Zaslav,” she quipped, as the camera panned to star Michael B. Jordan, who could be seen ruefully shaking his head at the joke.

Touting the period drama’s near-$368 million worldwide box office gross, Handler called out a piece from our sister publication, which readers and celebrities alike slammed for minimizing the critically acclaimed film’s financial performance. “White Hollywood was so shook after seeing the box office numbers, Variety ran the headline: ‘Do box office numbers really matter?’”

In another biz-related joke, Handler went after the C-suite in general: “Seth Rogen is here tonight. Years of playing stoners, slackers and underachievers who do next to nothing all day prepared Seth for his latest role of someone who does even less — a studio head.”

The comic also went after One Battle After Another star DiCaprio, who just last night missed an appearance at the Palm Springs Film Festival (where he was set to accept a Desert Palm Achievement Award), due to travel restrictions. The Oscar winner was vacationing on a yacht off the coast of St. Barts at the time. “It was just like the Titanic but worse because Jeff Bezos was there,” Handler said.

Showering praise on the year’s original series, Handler gave a warm shoutout to one of most dominant shows in the zeitgeist: “You guys made amazing, original shows that everyone couldn’t stop talking about — until that gay hockey show from Canada came along,” she said. “Shoutout to Heated Rivalry; everyone loves it: Gay men love it, women love it, straight men who say they aren’t gay but work out at Equinox love it!”

In more TV-related material, Handler said: “The cast of Landman is here. Spoiler alert: In a recent episode, Billy Bob Thornton went full frontal. Taylor Sheridan said it was nice to have a dick on set that wasn’t Kevin Costner.”

Closing out her opener, after Handler highlighted Jay Kelly‘s Adam Sandler as “the nicest guy in Hollywood,” she launched into a sweet remembrance of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead mid-December after being allegedly stabbed by their son Nick Reiner.

“Actually, you’re the second nicest guy in Hollywood, because everyone in this room knows that the nicest guy in Hollywood was Rob Reiner,” she began. “Anyone who ever spent time with Rob Reiner knows that the minute you met him, he felt like an old friend. When you were in a conversation with him, he was present, he was focused and he was funny, and he would ask you tons of questions, whether you were discussing politics or film or the latest beauty trends — he was all in. After I sent him a text thanking him for dinner a few months ago, he texted me back and said, ‘We had so much fun with you last night. Thanks for explaining so much about plastic surgery. It was very edifying.’”

She concluded, “Rob and Michele were tireless in their efforts to so many important causes, all stemming from one basic idea: decency and that we should all look out for each other. I think we can all agree that we definitely need more of that. So, let’s use tonight as a reminder of that decency and as a reminder of everything Rob and Michele represented and fought so hard for.”

  • Reiner Medical Examiner Records Under Wraps After Court Order – LAmag

    [ad_1]

Son Nick Reiner was charged with their murder on Dec. 16

Rob and Michele Reiner’s medical examiner records are under a security hold due to a Dec. 24 court order initiated by the Los Angeles Police Department.

“While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available,” the Los Angeles County medical examiner shared in a statement. “No other case information or records, including the medical examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice.”

It continued: “The department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted.”

The Reiners were found fatally stabbed in their Brentwood home on the afternoon of Dec. 14. By approximately 9:15 p.m. that night, the LAPD tracked down and arrested their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, near Exposition Park.

Nick was booked and later charged with two counts of first-degree murder.  He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown Los Angeles without bail and is being represented by lawyer Alan Jackson, who is also defending the 24-year-old charged in a fatal car crash that killed four Pepperdine University students.

“Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said on Dec. 16. “Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder and his wife of more than 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner’s murder, are shocking and tragic. We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.”

  • Rob & Michele Reiner’s Medical Records Are ‘Sealed’ Until Further Notice as Their Son Faces Murder Charges for Their Death

    [ad_1]

More than a week after their deaths, Rob Reiner and his wife Michele’s medical records are being sealed under a court order sought by Los Angeles police.

In a statement to NBC, the Los Angeles Police Department said that they “sought to seal” the records “to ensure detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division learned of important information surrounding their deaths before the media and the public” and that “the order was not sought to undermine transparency.”

“While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said in a press statement. “No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice. The Department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted.”

The LAPD told People in a statement: “The causes of death of Mr. and Mrs. Reiner have already been made public. The order was sought only to ensure detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division learned of important information surrounding their deaths before the media and the public. The order was not sought to undermine transparency.”

Rob and Michele Reiner’s cause of death was released on Dec. 17. The report indicates the two died of “multiple sharp force injuries,” with their deaths officially being ruled a “homicide.” The date of death is established as December 14, 2025.

TMZ obtained a copy of their death certificates and confirmed that the two had died “with [a] knife, by another.” The time between the onset of injuries and death is listed as “minutes.” Rob’s death was listed at 3:45 p.m., and Michele, who is listed as “widowed,” was discovered at 3:46 p.m. Their bodies were cremated at Mount Sinai Mortuary after the autopsies were completed.

Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested on Dec. 14 and is charged with two counts of murder with special circumstance allegations that he used a knife, according to court documents. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

TMZ reported that Nick Reiner was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the weeks leading up to his parents’ murder. Sources told the site that 3 to 4 weeks before the murders, doctors changed his meds. The source claimed that they were adjusting the medications so Nick stabilized, but it wasn’t working. The change reportedly made him “erratic and dangerous.”

  • ‘Princess Bride’ Star Cary Elwes Pens Tribute to Rob Reiner After Shocking Death: “I Can Finally Put My Grief Into Words”

    [ad_1]

Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes says he can “finally put my grief into words” as he paid tribute to director Rob Reiner who, along with his wife, Michele Reiner, died Dec. 14.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Elwes shared footage from the set of the 1987 film in which he starred and Reiner directed. He went on to pen a tribute reflecting on working with Reiner at the time.

“I was 24 when I first met Rob Reiner on The Princess Bride. And from that very first meeting I fell in love with him,” Elwes wrote. “I was already a fan of his work so meeting him in person was a dream come true. As we began spending more time together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life. I also knew that by casting me as Westley he was giving me the keys to the castle.”

He went on to say that “the first thing” he “noticed about Rob was that he wore his heart on his sleeve. This was a man who felt deeply. Whose heart was filled with love and compassion. He wasn’t impressed by how much money you had or if you had a privileged upbringing. He just wanted to know if you were a ‘good guy.’ He always tried to find the best in people. And if that person had problems he felt bad for them. He loved his family and friends immensely.”

He recalled the “brilliant filmmaker” telling him that what he loved about making films was “the experience itself,” adding that Reiner used to say, “Once the movie is released it belongs to other people. But while you are making it, that’s your time on the planet, so you wanna make it good.”

“And boy was my time with him on The Princess Bride beyond great,” the actor added. “I can’t remember a single day without laughter. The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it.”

Elwes also remembered Reiner’s wife, Michele, whom he described as “a gifted photographer” and an “incredibly loving, intelligent person. Deeply passionate about her family and about lifting others up.

“To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. Their only interest in fame was that it allowed them to shine a light on causes they believed in, especially helping those who were marginalized. In a town where many talk the talk, they truly walked it. Whenever we got together we would talk about family, life, movies and politics. But without fail Rob would always find a way to make us laugh. That was important to him. Finding the joy.”

He continued, “And if I could make him laugh in return, I felt like I had won the lottery. His laugh was one of the greatest sounds I’ve ever known — so heartfelt it still rings in my ears.”

Elwes then finished his tribute thanking Rob and Michele for sharing their “life and art with us.” He added, “Because my heart still aches every time I think of you, I know the grief of losing you too soon will likely never go away. Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you. With this note my family and I send our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to their family, friends and fans.”

The award-winning director and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their Los Angeles home Sunday, Dec. 14. Their youngest son, Nick, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and taken into custody. Nick did not enter a plea at his first court appearance Dec. 17. His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7.

  • Joe Rogan Slams Donald Trump for Mocking Rob Reiner’s Death

    [ad_1]

Joe Rogan called out Donald Trump on his podcast after the President made a controversial comment on the deaths of veteran Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner. The podcast host criticized Trump’s remarks, saying they were “not funny.”

Earlier this month, veteran comedian and filmmaker Rob Reiner was found dead in his California home alongside his wife, Michelle. Authorities are investigating the deaths as homicides. The news sent shockwaves through Hollywood, with many prominent figures paying tribute to the director.

However, Donald Trump responded differently. In a post on his Truth Social account, the President wrote about Reiner, “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession with President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

The comments did not sit well with most people, including Joe Rogan, who called the President out on his podcast.

“The Rob Reiner thing is not funny,” Rogan said. “When you see it with no empathy, that’s when it’s hard to like.”

Podcast guest Shane Gillis agreed that the comments were wrong and said he wished Trump “could apologize” for them. However, both Gillis and Rogan acknowledged that an apology was unlikely.

Rogan continued, “Listen, there’s no justification for what he did that makes any sense in a compassionate society. It’s no different than people that were celebrating when Charlie Kirk got shot. It’s the same kind of thing.”

The two then discussed how the public reaction might have differed if a former president had made similar remarks. “Imagine if Obama tweeted something about someone after they died in this way,” Rogan said. “That this person was a deranged person that hated Obama.”

They went on to describe the situation as “crazy.” Rogan added, “It’s so disappointing. It’s like why. If you say that privately, that’s one thing, which is also crazy, but it’s so disappointing.”

Rogan further remarked that someone should have taken “his f***ing phone” away.

  • Michael Douglas and Rob Reiner ‘talked a lot about’ their sons’ struggles with addictions

Michael Douglas and Rob Reiner often spoke to each other about parenting children with drug addictions and the challenges it comes with.

Douglas, 81, reflected on their conversations about their sons — Reiner with his son Nick and Michael with his son Cameron – while appearing on the CBS News special “Rob Reiner: Scenes from a Life.”

“With this terrible tragedy, we’re realizing how much pressure he was dealing with in his personal life with his son. I also had a son who had drug issues. And I’m happy to say he’s overcome them and he’s living a prosperous life. But we talked a lot about that: What you can do as a parent, what you can’t do,” Douglas said.

“So knowing with all of that going on behind the scenes, this was a man who always gave you his best,” Douglas, who appeared in Reiner’s films “The American President” and “And So It Goes,” added.

Close friends and family are continuing to mourn the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

On Sunday, just one week after Nick Reiner was arrested for murdering his parents in their Brentwood, California, home, Lucas Reiner — the brother of the late Hollywood director — was photographed arriving at their sister Annie’s Los Angeles home along with various friends and family members.

The extended family members were seen hugging one another as they gathered together.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, police discovered the bodies of Rob and Michele in the primary bedroom of their home in Brentwood, California. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners’ office later said that they died due to multiple sharp force injuries.

Nick was quickly named a person of interest in the investigation, and hours later, around 9:15 p.m. local time that same day, he was arrested.

The night before the murders, family friends of the Reiners told the Los Angeles Times that Nick got into an argument with his parents at O’Brien’s Christmas party. Many people noticed Nick was behaving strangely, according to the outlet.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” a source also told People magazine.

On Dec. 16, authorities charged Nick in the double homicide of his parents. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders.

“He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said during a press conference. “These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.”

No decision has been made on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

However, if the death penalty is pursued, Nick would not be executed due to the moratorium instituted by California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019.

While the executive order did not repeal capital punishment in California, it has halted all executions indefinitely, Oakland criminal defense lawyer Jo-Anna Nieves told Fox News Digital.

“The executive order issued by Gavin Newsom halted executions, closed the execution chamber at San Quentin, and paused lethal-injection protocols, but it did not repeal the death penalty or invalidate death sentences imposed by courts,” Nieves said. “California still has the death penalty on the books, and prosecutors are legally permitted to seek it in eligible cases.”

“Practically speaking, even if prosecutors pursue the death penalty against Nick Reiner and obtain a conviction and death sentence, no execution would occur under the current moratorium,” she added. “The sentence would legally exist, but its enforcement would remain suspended unless the moratorium is lifted by a future governor or the law is changed through legislation or voter action.”

The moratorium, however, could be overturned once a new governor is elected in 2026.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Hochman also told reporters that they will take the “thoughts and desires of the family into consideration” when it comes to Nick’s sentencing.

Nick made his first court appearance in the case on Dec. 17, where his lawyer, famed defense attorney Alan Jackson, requested a continuance. He only spoke once: when the judge asked if he agreed to delay his arraignment, he said, “Yes, Your Honor.”
