How Nicola Peltz Really Felt About Harper Before Brooklyn’s Sister Seemingly Sided With Cruz & Romeo

Everyone’s picking sides in the Beckham family drama. Or, at least, everyone’s kinda been forced to choose one way or another by circumstances. And that apparently includes Harper, David and Victoria’s youngest kid, who is only 14. Though at 14, what side can you really pick but that of your parents?

Now, with the relationship between Brooklyn, Nicola and Brooklyn’s parents at seemingly its worst moment, an old interview of Nicola Peltz talking about Harper has resurfaced. In a post-wedding interview with The Times in October 2022, Nicola spoke warmly of Harper, but according to the journalist who did the interview, the tensions with the Beckhams were already apparent then.

Polly Barton wrote in a new op-ed for Grazia, “I was struck by Nicola’s borderline inability to speak either David or Victoria’s names,” adding that she referred to them as ‘Brooklyn’s mom’ or ‘dad’.” However, the same wasn’t true of Brooklyn’s little sister. “By contrast, she spoke easily, directly and fondly of Harper.”

At the time, Nicola said “I wanted a little sister so bad, and Harper is the sweetest,” and “I have the coolest little sister. She sends me snapchats.”

While promoting her directorial debut in 2024, Nicola told People Harper was “my dream little sister,” adding, “If I could create the perfect dream little sister, it’s her,” she said. “I’m so blessed I get to have her as my little sister in my life.”

Even last years, as rumors started circulating that Brooklyn and his family were having issues, the couple posted a tribute to Harper for her birthday. “Happy Birthday Harper we love u x,” Beckham’s caption read, alongside a photo of the couple smiling with his sister.

Back then The Sun reported that was solely about Brooklyn and Nicola’s relationship with Harper. “He wanted to put out a message on social media for her to show this bond still exists,” a source said. “He wanted this to be about Harper and he wanted to show people how much he and Nicola care about her.”

What the relationship is like these days is not known, but Harper recently stepped out with her family in what was seen as a gesture of support for her mother, Victoria Beckham. And she did post on Instagram to support her brother Romeo, who walked Paris Fashion Week for designer Willy Chavarria. In an Instagram story, she wrote: “Yet again!! Another amazing show x @romeobeckham @willychavarria.” Both Romeo and David reposted her story.

This comes after Brooklyn called out his brothers Romeo and Cruz on his Instagram Stories, but made no mention of his sister Harper. “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,” he wrote. “The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.”

What Do Cruz and Romeo Beckham Think of Their Family Feud

“I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life,” wrote Brooklyn Beckham on Instagram. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” clarifying—once and for all—his position in a family rift that appears to have widened between the Beckhams’ eldest son and his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. To those quick to blame Nicola Peltz, the actress Brooklyn has been married to since 2022, he countered that the prevailing narrative is exactly backwards. For most of his life, he said, it was his parents who shaped and managed his image: “All my life my parents have controlled the narratives in the press about our family. Performative posts on social media, family events, and inauthentic relationships have been a constant in the life I was born into.”

As the drama spills into the open, attention has turned to how Brooklyn’s siblings are responding. In addition to their eldest, Victoria and David share three other children: Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper Seven, 14. While the youngest is, of course, too young to comment, the boys have not explicitly weighed in either—though subtle signals have not gone unnoticed.

Cruz, for his part, shared an Instagram story showing himself drinking a can of Guaraná, soundtracked by his mother’s 2001 single “Not Such an Innocent Girl.” The song—long remembered for its sultry undertones—includes lyrics that gesture toward duality and misperception. “First impressions can be wrong / So let me clear what’s going on / Baby, I’m not who you think I am,” Victoria sings in the opening verse. Whether Cruz intended the post as a nod to Brooklyn’s claim that the public version of their mother masks a more complicated reality—or as a cautionary message aimed at his brother—is open to interpretation. What is certain is that the song, from Victoria’s self-titled debut album, surged to the top of the U.K. streaming charts shortly afterward. Cruz later posted a second story, revealing what appears to be the title of an upcoming track of his own: “Lonelist Boy.” The implication—that he may be feeling isolated or adrift amid the family turmoil—was hard to miss.

Romeo, meanwhile, appears to be distancing himself from the feud altogether. He was photographed in Paris with his partner, DJ and model Kim Turnbull, attending a party at the Hôtel Costes during fashion week. Brooklyn, too, seems intent on projecting calm. Shortly after sharing his statement, he was photographed walking hand in hand with Peltz on a beach in Malibu, the couple strolling quietly with their dog.

As each of the Beckham children processes the rupture in their own way, Brooklyn’s words linger—perhaps as both explanation and warning—for Cruz, Romeo, and Harper alike: “I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose and have found peace and relief.”

After gushing about how much she adores Harper, Brooklyn’s younger sister, and explaining how she “wanted a little sister so bad,” the actress pivoted to her and Brooklyn’s plans to have children of their own.

She told the publication: “He wants kids yesterday,” adding that she wanted to wait “a couple of years”. Nicola added: “We definitely want a big family. He has three siblings, and I have seven.”

When asked if she is seriously thinking about having eight children, the 31-year-old elaborated: “It’s a lot, but… I don’t know. We want to adopt some kids and have some of our own. That would be the dream.”

The aspiration isn’t that surprising, given that the pair both come from very large families, but a family-of-ten isn’t an easy one to manage!

Staying out of the spotlight, Nicola’s eldest brother, Matthew, is a businessman like his father, with a degree from Yale University, and works for his father’s investment firm, Trian Fund Management. He is also the non-executive vice chairman of Wendy’s.

Brooklyn Beckham Just Took On Years of Rumor and Speculation, In Six Shocking Instagram Stories

What followed was a remarkable refutation of the Beckham family narrative—one that inverted years of tabloid shorthand. Brooklyn alleged that the much-discussed wedding dress controversy had been misunderstood: that Victoria Beckham had initially offered to design Nicola’s gown, only to cancel late in the process, despite Nicola’s enthusiasm about wearing it. And, he confirmed the rumor of Victoria “hijack[ing] my first dance with my wife,” serenaded by Marc Anthony. “She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” recalls Beckham, saying “I never felt more humiliated in my life.”

There were other details, more intimate and unsettling. He claimed that women from his past were repeatedly invited into family gatherings in ways that made both him and Nicola uncomfortable. He said his parents had refused to see them, while privately and publicly feeding stories to the press—sometimes, he alleged, enlisting his own siblings to attack him on social media.

Perhaps most striking was Brooklyn’s rejection of the dominant narrative about Nicola’s influence. “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards,” he wrote. “I’ve been controlled by my parents for my entire life.”

Representatives for Brooklyn Beckham and Victoria Beckham did not immediately respond to Vanity Fair. This is a developing story.

“We wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy New Year filled with so much love, peace, and happiness,” Nicola then captioned the post, which was also shared to Brooklyn’s Instagram.

It marks a stark contrast for Brooklyn from last year, when the couple spent Christmas with the Beckhams.

Meanwhile, Victoria made a point of saying how good a father David is by sharing some pictures from their family Christmas.

The couple spent Christmas alongside their children, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, as well as Victoria’s parents, Jackie and Anthony, and David’s mum, Sandra.

Victoria shared several videos and pictures on her story of the festive celebrations. One video showed Victoria and dad Anthony dancing together.

“Making memories,” Victoria captioned the clip.

Another video then showed David dancing to Islands in the Stream with his daughter, Harper.

As the lyrics, “we rely on each other”, were heard, the father and daughter duo shared a hug.

Brooklyn blocks the Beckhams

The Beckhams’ family Christmas comes just days after Brooklyn blocked them all on Instagram.

Cruz Beckham hit back at claims that David and Victoria had unfollowed Brooklyn by sharing a news story about it on his Instagram story.

“NOT TRUE. My mum and dad would never unfollow their son…Let’s get facts right,” he wrote.

“They woke up blocked… as did I.”

However, the reported “real” reason why Brooklyn has blocked his family has been revealed.

A source alleged to The Sun that Brooklyn blocked his family after Victoria liked one of his posts. His comment section was then flooded with comments from followers urging Brooklyn to make up with his family. Brooklyn is believed to have got annoyed with his mum’s public display of affection and hit the block button.

“David and Victoria are understandably heartbroken by what’s gone on here. This came out of the blue for them. And in the lead-up to Christmas, when families are supposed to come together, it’s devastating,” a source then claimed.

Brooklyn Beckham appears to have further distanced himself from his parents David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, amid reports of ongoing family tensions.

In a noticeable social media shift, Brooklyn has unfollowed both of his parents on Instagram, with David and Victoria no longer following their eldest son in return. While Brooklyn is understood to have been estranged from his parents for much of the year, he had continued to follow them online until December 20.

Most notably, Victoria shared a message on her Instagram Stories revealing that her mother had put up a Christmas stocking for Brooklyn, a gesture many fans interpreted as an olive branch. However, despite the public show of warmth, Brooklyn has now seemingly removed his parents from his social media feed.

It marks the most visible indication yet that communication between Brooklyn and his parents remains strained. His wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, also does not follow David or Victoria on Instagram, and they no longer follow her either.

The couple both took to their Instagram accounts to pay tributes to Nala, who died “unexpectedly”.

“You were the cutest little baby girl and we will always think of you. We know you are looking and barking down on us.

“We love you so much and miss you beyond.”

Nicola shared some more details on Nala’s death in her tribute. She wrote: “This has been the hardest month of my life.

She continued: “We rushed her to the vet and she passed hours later. I’m sharing this in hopes that it might prevent this from happening to other dogs.

“Her life was taken away from her way too soon. She was my beautiful queen and stayed by my side for 9 years through everything.”

Who the Hell Is Nelson Peltz, the Billionaire Investor Disney Is Freaking Out About?

So-called activist investor Nelson Peltz, who’s aiming to win two Disney board seats, has stirred up some controversy by calling out Disney’s recent era of “woke” strategy through diversifying its slate of films at Marvel Studios.

The 81-year-old businessman, whose experience is with food companies including Wendy’s and H.J. Heinz as well as having once supported the DeSantis presidential campaign, had a lot to say about The Marvels and Black Panther in an interview with the Financial Times. “Why do I have to have a Marvel [movie] that’s all women?” Peltz asked the publication. “Not that I have anything against women, but why do I have to do that? Why can’t I have Marvels that are both? Why do I need an all-Black cast?” Side note: Peltz happens to be the father of Nicola Peltz, who played Katara in 2010’s infamously very white Last Airbender adaptation.

He continued, “People go to watch a movie or a show to be entertained. They don’t go to get a message.” Since he also claimed that he doesn’t have experience in media, it’s interesting to note that Peltz’s Trian Partners is pushing for this vote as part of Ike Perlmutter’s hopes for retaliation against Disney CEO Bob Iger, who terminated him from Marvel Entertainment last year. Variety reported that, “Trian controls roughly $3.5 billion worth of Disney stock, 79% of which is owned by Perlmutter.” This goes back to Perlmutter’s feud with Kevin Feige, who pushed for Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Perlmutter fought against diversity in Marvel’s slate until Iger stepped in to force his hand and allow the films to be made.

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, starring the late Chadwick Boseman, was a hit with $1.35 billion at the worldwide box office; it kicked off the Academy Award-winning franchise and brought more inclusivity to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Proving Perlmutter wrong publicly while revealing the lengths the forner Marvel exec went to in order to stop diverse superhero toys, merch, and movies being made really propelled Feige into the public’s good graces. Recent misses for the studio including The Marvels have caused some Marvel watchers to wonder if Feige’s position should be called into question. When asked by the Financial Times if it should, Peltz responded, “I’m not ready to say that, but I question his record.”

Disney board member George Lucas recently stood up against Peltz by releasing a statement (reprinted in Variety and elsewhere) to support Bob Iger in rejecting his bid. “Creating magic is not for amateurs,” Lucas said in a shot right at Peltz, who also admitted to the Financial Times he’s been a bit of a bully. (“What sense is being a billionaire if you’re not a bully?” Peltz has been quoted as saying.) Which is such a strange stance to bring into Disney, standing directly against all it represents.

Lucas continued, “When I sold Lucasfilm just over a decade ago, I was delighted to become a Disney shareholder because of my longtime admiration for its iconic brand and Bob Iger’s leadership.” He added, “When Bob recently returned to the company during a difficult time, I was relieved. No one knows Disney better. I remain a significant shareholder because I have full faith and confidence in the power of Disney and Bob’s track record of driving long-term value. I have voted all of my shares for Disney’s 12 directors and urge other shareholders to do the same.”

Peltz aims to add more board seats for his hedge fund firm through his Disney bid and support the agenda that Ike Perlmutter, his silent third party partner, has advocated for during his Disney tenure. The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that Perlmutter had this up his sleeve as soon as he was terminated, as he immediately pledged his stakes in Disney to Peltz. Before Iger came back Peltz had attempted a proxy battle with the company as a result of its losses, but was held off by his return. With this seat bid he hopes for round two in having more direct influence on the company board.

Selena Gomez has recently wowed netizens and fans alike with the range of fashion she showcased during her trip to Paris. The singer flaunted several interesting and unique looks as she stepped out in the City of Love to party, hang out with friends, and attend fashion events. She wasn't the only star present in France as the Paris Fashion Week saw a hoard of celebrities attending shows in the city including Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner.

The lighting of the image kept the focus on the Only Murders in the Building star's face and her interesting choice to go for a blue eye makeup look with the outfit. The next was a mirror selfie of her in the leopard print bodycon dress she wore during the early days of the trip.

The third slide featured another selfie this time with Gomez's best friend Nicola Peltz. The two pouted in the image with their cheeks pressing together. The actress and the model have hung out more than twice during their Paris stay. From dinner and attending a soccer game to partying at night, the two have enjoyed some quality time during this fun getaway. The next image featured the thigh-high black boots that Gomez wore with her white shirt dress.

Who Is Dorothy Stratten? Nicola Peltz On Portraying The Playmate In ‘Welcome To Chippendales’ (Exclusive)

On the wildly fascinating limited true-crime series, “Welcome to Chippendales”, Nicola Peltz portrays the ill-fated Playboy model and actress Dorothy Stratten. She, along with her husband at the time, promoter Paul Snider (Dan Stevens), were two of several unexpected real-life figures who were key in making Somen “Steve” Banerjee’s (Kumail Nanjiani) dreams of running a successful nightclub a reality as he transformed his Los Angeles property from a backgammon club into a male strip revue.

While Peltz’s portrayal is brief, with her only appearing in the premiere before her untimely death is revealed at the end of the episode, Stratten has a lasting legacy of her own. “I’ve never actually played a real person and so being able to do that was amazing and scary,” Peltz tells ET about taking on the role.

Originally from Canada, Stratten moved to Los Angeles in 1978, just one year before the Chippendales were founded, and quickly found work as a Playboy model. Soon after she met and married Snider in 1979, the same year she made her screen debut after landing a few bit parts in low budget films.

Her star power quickly rose after she was named Playboy‘s 1980 Playmate of the Year and landed the title role in the sci-fi film “Galaxina”. By the summer of 1980, she landed her next film, “They All Laughed”, and soon started having an affair with its director, Peter Bogdanovich (portrayed by Philip Shahbaz in the series). After returning to Los Angeles, she filed for separation from Snider, someone who Hugh Hefner even reportedly encouraged her to leave.

When it comes to the Chippendales, in particular, Stratten’s biggest contribution was helping them come up with their signature “cuffs and collar” uniform. In 1980, she helped broker a deal between Banerjee’s nightclub and Playboy, which inspired the male dancers’ new look. (Chippendales would eventually get into a decade-long trademark dispute over the uniform.)

“When I read the script, I didn’t have a clue that Dorothy was connected to Chippendales. So, I think when she comes up with that idea, it’s really cool. I really loved that,” Peltz says. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s really cool that she’s the one who [was] kind of inspired for her job [and] brought it to her husband.’”

Sadly, things did not end well between Stratten and Snider, who killed his estranged wife before dying by suicide in August 1980. According to the 2014 book Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders, which was adapted by co-showrunners Robert Siegel and Jenni Konner and director Matt Shakman for the Hulu series, “Police concluded that Stratten met Snider to discuss an amicable divorce. Not wanting to lose Stratten, Snider raped and murdered Stratten.”

Following her death, Stratten became a legend and the subject of the TV film, “Death of a Centerfold”, as well as “The Killing of the Unicorn”, Bogdanovich’s 1984 memoir detailing his relationship with the actress. The latter would eventually inspire lyrics in the hit Red Hot Chili Peppers song, “Californication”.

But Stratten’s story has been most encapsulated by Bob Fosse’s biographical film, “Star 80”, starring Mariel Hemingway and Eric Roberts. While a minor box office hit, the film garnered Roberts a Golden Globe nomination and has a lasting legacy as part of Fosse’s life behind the camera.

“So, I watched the movie,” Peltz says, referring to Fosse’s final film. “It’s her life story and I watched that at quite a young age and it just stuck with me for so long ’cause it was so heartbreaking. And just everything about it stuck in my head. So, when I got the audition, I was like, ‘Oh gosh, I know this story. I would be honored to be able to play her. Like, I love her.’”

When it came to her transformation, the 27-year-old actress worked with the hair, makeup and costume teams to channel Stratten onscreen. “When they put the wig on me for the first time and they did my makeup and then I finally went through wardrobe and put on my dress, it was really special because I felt like her so much,” Peltz recalls.

“I was so excited I texted my mom, like, 10 pictures,” she continues, revealing that not only did her mom “love” her look but her husband, Brooklyn Beckham, was also a fan. “He was like, ‘Oh, I like the ’80s hair.’ Yeah, he was like, ‘I really like Dorothy’s style.’ I was like, ‘OK, should I start changing up my look?’”

While Peltz gives Stratten’s story a new life in Welcome to Chippendales, it comes with a lot of added pressure. “I hope people like it ’cause I love her so much,” the actress says. “I just hope I honoured her.”

The first two episodes of “Welcome to Chippendales” are now streaming on Disney+, with one new episode rolling out weekly through Jan. 3, 2023.
