  • NBA Fines Utah Jazz & Indiana Pacers For “Conduct Detrimental To The League”

    [ad_1]

On the eve of its glitzy All-Star Game, an event that itself has been criticized for a lack of competitiveness, the NBA has fined two franchises for “the management of their rosters during recent games.” In the vernacular, they were tanking.

Tanking is the term for teams that don’t expect to be competitive during a given season and so set out to lose intentionally in order to better their chances in the following year’s draft. (Draft lottery chances increase as a team’s place in the standings declines.)

The Utah Jazz (18-38) were fined $500,000 “for conduct detrimental to the league” related to games against the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat on February 7 and 9, respectively.

“During those games,” reads a statement from the league, “the Jazz removed two of the team’s top players, Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson, Jr., before the beginning of the fourth quarter and did not return them to the game, even though these players were otherwise able to continue to play and the outcomes of the games were thereafter in doubt.”

As the league said today, “Overt behavior like this that prioritizes draft position over winning undermines the foundation of NBA competition.”

The Indiana Pacers (15-40) were fined $100,000 for not playing their stars at all.

After the team’s February 3 game against, ironically, the Utah Jazz, there were suspicions about the lack of availability of three Pacers players.

“Following an investigation, including review by an independent physician, the NBA determined that Pascal Siakam, a star player under the Policy, and two other pacers starters, neither of whom participated in the game, could have played under the medical standard of the Policy.”

While the other two players were not named, Bennedict Mathurin, Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell also sat out.

Among the issues at play here is the quality of the product the league is putting on the floor at a time when it is demanding record broadcast fees. Further, there is the even uglier spectre of players and coaches themselves fixing games.

Last October saw the arrests of 30 individuals including the Miami Heat’s Terry Rozier, ex-Cleveland Cavaliers player and assistant coach Damon Jones, and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups due to allegations of insider betting schemes and mob-backed poker games.

The optics of such scandals now jeopardize not only those rich rights deals, but pacts with online gambling outfits like PENN Entertainment, which is paying broadcast partner ESPN $150 million a year for 10-years for marketing services and the right to use the ESPN Bet brand in the U.S. If bettors don’t believe games are being played competitively, that money could be in jeopardy.

  • NBC Orders Two More Drama Pilots: ‘What the Dead Know’ From Dick Wolf and a ‘Puzzle Master’ Adaptation

    [ad_1]

It’s raining pilot orders at NBC.

The network will take a chance on two new drama projects, titled “Puzzled” and “What the Dead Know.” This caps off a week in which NBC announced six pilot orders for the 2026 season.

From “Charmed” and “Sleepy Hollow” writer Joey Falco, “Puzzled” is based on the “Puzzle Master” books by Danielle Trussoni. “After barely escaping a tragic fire, once promising college athlete Mike Brink is transformed by a traumatic brain injury that gives him the unique ability to see the world in an unexpected way and helps him solve crimes with local police,” according to the logline. Jordan Cerf executive produces alongside Falco, and Trussoni is a producer. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Legendary “Law & Order” creator Dick Wolf serves as an executive producer on the other pilot, “What the Dead Know,” from Beth Rinehart (“FBI: Most Wanted,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”). The series is based on the memoir by former New York City medical examiner Barbara Butcher. Per the logline: “Death Investigator Ava Ledger is really good with dead bodies. It’s the living that give her trouble.” The show follows Ava as she teams up with the NYPD to solve their toughest cases. The executive producers include Tom Thayer, Peter Jankowski and Anastasia Puglisi; Co-EPs are Kevin Plunkett, Rebecca McGill and Butcher. Wolf Entertainment produces, and Universal Television is the studio.

Earlier on Friday, NBC announced a pilot order for a detective comedy from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor and executive producer Luke Del Tredici. On Thursday, the network announced a drama pilot from Dean Georgaris and John Fox, inspired by the real-life FBI research of Dr. Ann Burgess. And earlier this week, the network announced a drama pilot order from Josh Safran, Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector called “Protection,” about a family of law enforcement agents becoming the target of a mysterious assassin. Plus, NBC gave a pilot order to a “contemporary update” on “The Rockford Files” from Mike Daniels (“Sons of Anarchy”).

  • NBC Pulls ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Episode Featuring Timothy Busfield Following Child Sex Abuse Charges

    [ad_1]

NBC will no longer air an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU” in which Timothy Busfield appears in a guest star role.

Variety has confirmed that the broadcast network has shelved the episode, which was set to air on Jan. 15. Instead, NBC will air the “SVU” episode originally scheduled to air on Jan. 22. Busfield was set to play a judge in the now pulled “SVU” episode, which is titled “Corrosive.” He previously guest starred on the long-running series in 2011 and directed two other episodes in 2019.

It was recently reported that an arrest warrant was issued for Busfield in New Mexico on charges of sexual abuse involving a minor. The accusations stem from his time as director on the Fox drama series “The Cleaning Lady.” One of a pair of twin boys who worked on the show claims that Busfield touched his “private areas” when he was seven years old, and again when he was eight, while they were on set.

Warner Bros. Television, which produced “The Cleaning Lady,” had conducted an internal investigation into Busfield’s behavior towards the boys onset in 2025 following an anonymous tip involving a separate incident. The studio previously issued a statement regarding the accusations stating:

“The health and safety of our cast and crew is always our top priority, especially the safety of minors on our productions. We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and have systems in place to promptly and thoroughly investigate, and when needed, take appropriate action. We are aware of the current charges against Mr. Busfield and have been and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement.”

  • WATCH: Prince William County family wins $1.6 million on NBC’s ‘The Wall’ – WTOP News

    [ad_1]

A Prince William County, Virginia, father and son won over $1.6 million on NBC’s “The Wall,” a game show that premiered its sixth season Monday.

A Prince William County father and son won over $1.6 million on NBC’s “The Wall,” a game show that premiered its sixth season Monday.

Steven Hardeman, 56, and his son Seth, 20, both of Triangle, taped the episode in June 2024.

In a Monday night text message exchange with InsideNoVa, the Hardemans shared their delight.

“I was ecstatic,” Steven Hardeman said. “I think if I could have jumped 1,000 feet in the air, I would’ve jumped 1,000 feet in the air. When they talk about being on cloud nine, I’m still on cloud nine. To me it is still unbelievable. It seems surreal.”

“Absolute shock,” Seth Hardeman said of his initial reaction. “Being in isolation, you have no idea what is going on in front of the wall, and hearing my dad follow up such a powerful message to me with news of such an amazing win caught me off guard. I had always kept a positive mindset going into the show, and I think my reaction captures that.”

In 2002, Steven Hardeman was one of 13 recipients of the Declaration of Valor Award from then-Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, recognizing Hardeman’s efforts as an off-duty police officer who helped evacuate people from the Pentagon on 9/11.

Seth Hardeman is a senior majoring in history at George Mason University.

Currently a school security officer at Triangle Elementary, Steven Hardeman previously held the same position at Swans Creek Elementary in Dumfries.

Seth Hardeman was 18 during the episode’s taping. He now works as a substitute teacher three days a week at Triangle Elementary alongside his father and in tandem with his studies at George Mason.

    WATCH:

Steven Hardeman said he is “savoring the moment and the chance for financial freedom” stemming from the winnings. Seth Hardeman added he relishes “the security it offers.”

“To bring $1.6 million back to Prince William County feels like I can come and make an impactful impression for good in this county and those around me,” the elder Hardeman added.

    Seth Hardeman echoed that sentiment.

“I’m honored to show that good things happen in this world, and to showcase that to my hometown and all the people rooting for me is humbling,” he said.

Asked to describe their experience on “The Wall” in one word, Steven Hardeman called it a “blessing” that will help him “live a more purpose-driven life” — with Seth opting for the term “grateful.”

“Being the youngest game show contestant to win something of this magnitude brings a lot of opportunity,” Seth Hardeman said, “and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.”

“The Wall” is “an action-packed game with more than $12 million on the line each night and up to $3 million on a single drop, as teammates work together to answer questions to build a huge cash prize,” according to NBCUniversal. “The rules are simple: Get a question correct and a green ball will fall down the four-story wall and add the value of the slot to the players’ winning total. Miss a question and an ominous red ball will fall and deduct the value from the team’s total. Contestants compete in pairs and must blindly trust their loved ones to make the right decisions during the game to accumulate their earnings.”

  • Purchases of iPhone 17 Pro soar across Gaza amid ‘limited’ humanitarian aid

    [ad_1]

Friday’s NBC report said that, due to the compactness of the phones, they can be imported into the Strip more efficiently than construction materials or formula.

Rising purchases of Apple’s new iPhone 17s by Palestinians are being reported within the Gaza Strip, with many of the buyers still displaced and jobless, according to an NBC News report published on Friday.

The new iPhones have been selling in the Strip for a few months, with a report by the UAE-based newspaper The National, published at the beginning of the month, claiming that some Palestinians were left suspicious and were quoted as asking: “Why phones, and not food?”

Friday’s NBC report said that, due to the compactness of the phones, they can be imported into the Strip more efficiently than construction materials or formula, which the report described as “bulky.”

The recent report also cited Gazans saying that budget phones in the Strip are being sold for up to NIS 5,000.

Accusations that Israel using imported phones for intelligence gathering

The National report cited claims made by journalist Hamza Al Shobaki, who said that “Israel has a long history of using phones and communication systems for surveillance and intelligence gathering. To allow entry of devices that weren’t permitted even before the war, this raises questions.”

It has also been two years since phones were allowed to be imported into the Strip through official channels, the NBC report cited Tania Hary, executive director of the Israeli human rights group Gisha, as saying, who noted that “there is greater demand for phones and also accessories.”

The Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) reportedly told NBC that it was “fully committed to its obligation to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid trucks in accordance with the agreement,” but did not comment on the phones being sold in the Strip.

This comes after COGAT, a week earlier, criticized a UN report on Gaza that said famine had been averted but conditions “remained critical,” calling the assessment “a distorted and baseless picture of reality.”

“Contrary to the claims in the report, between 600-800 aid trucks enter the Gaza Strip every day, approximately 70 percent of which carry food,” COGAT’s director, Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian, said.

COGAT added that “The remainder carries medical equipment, shelter supplies, tents, clothing, and other essential humanitarian assistance.”

According to the COGAT statement, since the ceasefire began, as of mid-December, more than 25,000 trucks carrying food have entered the Gaza Strip, totaling 500,000 tons.

  • Missing NBC and Bravo on Fubo? Here are your alternatives during the channel dispute

    [ad_1]

It feels like 2025 is the year of corporate standoffs and stalemates among TV providers, with the latest being a contract dispute between streaming provider Fubo and NBCUniversal which has led to a blackout of all the latter’s networks on the service. Channels like NBC, USA Network, Telemundo, and Bravo went dark on Fubo at 5PM ET on November 21, 2025, and as of now, there’s no projected date for their return.

A message released by Fubo to their customers explains, “Fubo believes customers should have the option to choose among multiple distributors to access the content they love. Unfortunately, NBCU has offered terms regarding pricing and packaging that are egregiously above those offered to other distributors.” A statement from an NBCU spokesperson adds, “Fubo has chosen to drop NBCUniversal programming despite being offered the same terms agreed to by hundreds of other distributors. Unfortunately, this is par for the course for Fubo — they’ve dropped numerous networks in recent years at the expense of their customers, who continue to lose content.” (Fubo, for instance, cut Warner-owned channels back in 2024.)

While the companies are continuing discussions to come to an agreement, audiences might have to go without this week’s midweek NBA game, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Bengals vs. Ravens Thanksgiving Day game, a new episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City on Bravo, and much more.

Fubo has already begun emailing customers to note that a $15 credit will be applied to their bills starting “on or after December 1.” But in the meantime, if you’re a Fubo customer and are wondering what to do, here’s everything you need to know about the Fubo-NBC blackout, which channels are missing and your options for where to watch them.

Which channels are no longer available on Fubo?

The following is a list of channels owned or operated by NBC that are not currently available on Fubo:

    Local Channels:

    Regional Sports Channels:

    • NBC Sports California Plus

    • NBC Sports California Plus 3

    • NBC Sports Philadelphia Plus

    National Channels:

    • E! Entertainment Television

    • Million Dollar Listing Vault

    • Oxygen True Crime Archives

Why are these NBC-owned channels currently unavailable?

Per Fubo, NBC channels were pulled from the platform because of a disagreement over their long-standing content distribution agreement that has yet to be resolved.

When will the missing channels return?

There is no information available as to when NBC’s lineup of channels will return. Negotiations between the companies are ongoing.

Is Fubo offering a rebate while these channels are missing?

In a message to subscribers, Fubo stated, “If NBCU programming remains off of Fubo for an extended period, we will directly credit $15 to your Fubo account.” At least one Fubo customer on our staff received an email confirming the credit would be automatically applied in the December billing cycle.

What alternatives do viewers have in the meantime?

Looking to switch from Fubo? You’ve got plenty of options, including Peacock, DirecTV, and Hulu + Live TV. Here are some of your choices:

    Watch NBC on Peacock

For $11/month, an ad-supported Peacock subscription lets you stream live sports and events airing on NBC, including this week’s Thanksgiving Day football game, Sunday Night Football and more. Plus, you’ll get access to thousands of hours of shows and movies, including beloved sitcoms such as Parks and Recreation and The Office, every Bravo show and much more.

For $17 monthly you can upgrade to an ad-free subscription which includes live access to your local NBC affiliate (not just during designated sports and events) and the ability to download select titles to watch offline.

    $10.99/month at Peacock

Get a deal on Peacock with Walmart+

Image for the small product module

Walmart+ members get free Peacock Premium (or Paramount+ Essential) included in their membership at no additional cost. A monthly subscription to Walmart+ costs $12.99, and an annual plan usually costs $98, but right now, you can get half off an annual membership. That means you’ll pay just $49 for Peacock and perks like five free months of Apple Music, discounts on Cinemark movie theater memberships, free shipping and delivery on Walmart purchases, discounts on gas and more.

Peacock is home to all kinds of original content, from Emmy Award-winning reality series The Traitors to Poker Face and Twisted Metal. The platform has an impressive library of shows from NBC and Bravo, thousands of movies, and live sports, including the 2026 Super Bowl and Winter Olympics.

While a regular Peacock subscription is $10.99 for a Premium Plan and goes up to $16.99 for the ad-free Premium Plus plan, you get an ad-supported subscription for free if you’re a Walmart+ subscriber, not a bad deal if you’re currently going without NBC.

    $49 at Walmart+

Try DirecTV free for 5 days, and get $30 off your first month

Image for the small product module

DirecTV — which Engadget dubbed the best cable service without a contract — offers loads of great live channels, including NBC, Bravo, MSNBC, and the rest of NBCU’s offerings, which means you can watch thousands of live sporting events, live TV and more with a regular subscription. And right now, for a limited time, you can get a $20 bill credit off your first month when you sign up, plus at least $10 more off per month for your first 24 months with a DirecTV Choice, Ultimate or Premier package — that’s over $250 in savings. You can find information on every package here

Right now you can also get a free 5-day trial to test out the platform.

$30 off your first month at DirecTV

Try Hulu + Live TV for free

Image for the small product module

Engadget named Hulu + Live TV as the best live TV streaming service for Disney+ or Hulu subscribers. That’s because it includes the basic (with ads) version of those services — along with ESPN Unlimited — at no extra charge. Of course, you also get a full live TV service, with access to live channels like NBC, Bravo, and more. You can sign up for Hulu + Live TV for $89.99/month for guaranteed access to all your favorite NBC shows and sports. If you’re the optimistic type and you don’t think the Fubo/NBC dispute will last long, you can also just sign up for a free 3-day trial.

You’ll also enjoy access to unlimited DVR storage, the ability to stream on multiple devices and more.

    $89.99/month at Hulu

    Other services to watch NBC

Image for the mini product module
Image for the mini product module

If I switch to a different service, can I cancel or pause Fubo in the meantime?

Fubo does not allow customers to pause their subscriptions, so if you’re looking to make a change, you can cancel your plan outright.

    Ariana’s Theatre Kid Came Out

Last year, when Wicked released in theaters, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo proved that theatre kids are simply better at everything. Now, it’s clear as day that Ariana is just a theatre kid like the rest of us who is fulfilling her dream role as Glinda. She’s always turned heads with her talent and charisma up onstage, but her performance during Wicked: One Wonderful Night was simply showstopping.

A Tease Of Wicked: For Good

If Wicked: One Wonderful Night is anything like the upcoming Wicked: For Good film, we’re seated with a large popcorn on opening night. Based on how this live show went, we know we’re going to be crying all the good tears and singing along to our favorite songs from Act II all night long. Ariana and Cynthia gave us a taste of ‘For Good’ and what we might get to hear in the new film. Someone pass the tissues!

As the government shutdown drags on, some Northern California businesses are stepping in to support federal workers facing financial strain. In Yuba City, Grocery Outlet owner Jeremy Delay said his store is offering a 10% discount to federal employees. “We’re just hoping to help anybody who needs help, period,” Delay said, noting that two or three federal workers stop by each day to take advantage of the offer. The Sacramento region is home to a little more than 14,000 federal workers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. • ‘I’m still processing it’: DC singer stuns on ‘The Voice’ – WTOP News

    [ad_1]

D.C. singer Kenny Iko has been wowing judges on NBC’s “The Voice” and its audience of millions around the nation with his smooth crooning.

This season of NBC’s “The Voice” has unearthed a new talent from D.C.

Singer Kenny Iko has been wowing the show’s judges and its audience of millions around the nation with his smooth crooning.

During the show’s blind auditions, judges Snoop Dogg and Niall Horan turned their chairs, indicating their desire to work with the D.C. native.

Iko spoke with WTOP’s Mark Lewis about his experience on the show and what it was like seeing his favorite judges turn around during his performance.

    Listen to their conversation below.

WTOP’s Mark Lewis talks with singer Kenny Iko about his journey on ‘The Voice.’

The transcript below has been lightly edited for clarity.

    • Mark Lewis:

What was going through your mind when Snoop Dog’s chair turned around on The Voice?

    • Kenny Iko:

Honestly, I did not initially see that he turned his chair. So I was like, all in the crowd, just trying to do my thing. And then I looked back and saw that he turned and I lost it. I don’t know why it made me more nervous, but yeah, it was a moment.

    • Mark Lewis:

Is that a moment of relief? I mean, are you just trying to get through your number and do it the way you want to do it?

    • Kenny Iko:

Part of it was relief. The other part of it was like, “Oh, I made it” moment. Like, this is everything I’ve been working toward now, and just to see it coming to fruition, because I wanted two coaches to turn. It was Snoop and Niall, and for him to turn first, it was just like a blessing. I was like, yes.

    • Mark Lewis:

It had to have been a great feeling to have the judges battling over you at that moment that followed. What’s it been like working with Snoop?

    • Kenny Iko:

Snoop is just a great — everything you see about Snoop and hear about him as this uncle, he’s definitely that. He brings up a lot of things. He teaches us a lot of stuff. He definitely been investing in me and like giving me gems, and I know our relationship, even after the show, is gonna be crazy.

    • Mark Lewis:

Now tell us a little bit about your music. What drives you? What do you want people to know about the kind of music that you like and that you like to sing?

    • Kenny Iko:

I’m a singer-songwriter. I write all my music also, and I just love to create timeless music. Anything that I’m feeling at the time. Like this recent project, “Late CheckOut,” is about just the ups and downs of a relationship, and then the breakup, and then the fact that you may not be ready to end when the relationship ends. So you ask for this late checkout, in the sense of like a hotel.

    • Mark Lewis:

And you’ve got a video with that as well that was shot around here?

    • Kenny Iko:

Yes, I released the music video to it. It was shot over in the Great Falls area. One of the hottest video shoots ever, and a lot of bugs.

    • Mark Lewis:

So you’ve got a lot going on right now — EP out, you’re continuing on The Voice. Now you’re in the battle rounds right now, knockouts are next, right?

    • Kenny Iko:

Yes, I just won my battle round; that aired last week, and now we’re about to do the finals of the battle rounds, and then now you get to see me in the knockouts.

    • Mark Lewis:

Wow, that is fantastic, congratulations. I know you’re probably thinking, “This has been a long time coming.” You’ve been working at this for a while, but I tell you, success comes really fast. And you know, we’re so excited for you.

    • Kenny Iko:

I’m still processing it. Thank you man.
