Will Smith Thriller ‘Supermax’ Adds AnnaSophia Robb To Cast

EXCLUSIVE: Will Smith looks to have found his first co-star for his next film as sources tell Deadline I Play Rocky star AnnaSophia Robb is set to join Smith in the Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax thriller Supermax. David Gordon Green is directing the pic.

Deadline reported in May that Amazon MGM Studios is closing a deal for worldwide distribution rights for the Miramax film, which will be available in more than 240 countries and territories on Prime Video.

The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman will produce alongside Will Smith and Adam Fishbach for Smith’s Westbrook. The film is written by David Weil and David J. Rosen, known for their work on the TV series Hunters and Invasion. CAA Media Finance brokered the deal between Amazon and Miramax.

Weil and Rosen will also executive produce, alongside associate producer Natalie Laine Williams. Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, COO Thom Zadra, and SVP Spencer Ela will executive produce.

Robb is set to play Smith’s young partner in the film as the two detectives enter the depths of a Supermax prison to solve a mysterious murder.

Next up for the young star is a leading role in Amazon MGM’s highly anticipated Peter Farrelly-directed biographical drama I Play Rocky. The movie follows the behind-the-scenes true story of the production of the seminal 1976 classic Rocky. Following the release of the trailer last week, the film is already gaining award season buzz and is set to open this year’s Toronto Film Festival.

Robb is also set to join the recurring cast of hit Prime Video comedy Overcompensating for its second season. The actress is coming off rave reviews for her turn in the Emmy award-winning hit Netflix film Rebel Ridge, opposite Aaron Pierre, with other recent credits including Peacock’s Dr. Death and Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere. Robb initially broke out with various roles across film & television – including Disney’s Bridge to Terabithia, the Bethany Hamilton biopic Soul Surfer and the Sex & the City prequel The Carrie Diaries, where she took on the iconic titular role.

As previously stated, there is a lot of connective tissue on this particular project, The Picture Company just wrapped production on Supermax co-writer Weil’s feature directorial debut, the Amazon MGM Studios’ thriller Tyrant, starring Charlize Theron, Julia Garner and Demi Moore. Supermax also reunites Green with co-writer Rosen, who created the Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, which Green directed and executive-produced.

Robb is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
