• Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu was there to introduce and pay tribute to her Everything Everywhere All at Once directors The Daniels. She says The Daniels, “made us believe in movies again.”

• Glenn Weiss, who won for directing this year’s Tony Awards, famously proposed to his girlfriend while onstage at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmys in 2018 where he was accepting his award for directing The Oscars. In his speech tonight he reveals that they were finally married on Valentine’s Day.

• Bill Hader kept his winning streak alive in the face of tough competition from Tim Burton (nominated for a DGA for the first time in his long career tonight), The Bear’s Christopher Storer, Mike White, and Amy Sherman-Palladino. Though he has yet to win an Emmy for directing (losing out to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in 2018, Fleabag in 2019 and Ted Lasso last year), Hader has yet to lose at the DGAs.

• Paul Thomas Anderson was on hand to introduce Todd Field, nominated for directing Tár. PTA also called the movie “deeply funny”

• To the delight of the room, the big winners were The Daniels who will share the award for Best Film Director. This is great news for Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s Oscar chances. As writer Kyle Buchanan noted on Twitter, 17 of the last 20 DGA Best Film Director winners have gone on to win the Oscar. Chloe Zhao (who presented the award to The Daniels) and Jane Campion both picked up wins at the DGAs in 2021 and 2022 before going on to win the Oscar.
