WGA Would Allow ChatGPT in Scriptwriting, as Long as Writers are Credited

The Writers Guild of America has suggested that AI may be permitted to write scripts, provided that it does not impact the credits or residuals of human writers.

From what I understood: The idea is to let writers use ChatGPT to help write scripts, but they won’t have to share the credit or money earned from the script with the AI. Similarly, a studio can give an AI-generated script to a writer to improve or change, but the writer will still get credit for writing the first version.

Basically, this proposal treats AI as a tool and not as a writer. It aims to help writers use AI without having to fight over who gets the credit with the makers of the software.

However, the same proposal does not address what would happen if a studio let AI write a script entirely on its own, without help or any editing from a human writer.
