Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuted this holiday weekend with $28.1 million, the second-lowest for the now-dead DCEU. The film scored a B Cinemascore, a 50% Recommend from PostTrak and a 2.5 on Letterboxd. Its expected to gross another $12 million for Christmas Day. Post-News Year will give a clearer indication of whether this truly becomes another DC flop, but as of now its looking just like that. A terrible year for superhero fare, and 2024 doesn’t look any better.
Wonka dropped to second with $17.7 million, a 55% drop from its debut. So far, the film has taken in $75.2 million domestically and stands at $246.5 million worldwide. At least this one is a hit for Warners.
The animated Migration debuted in 3rd with $12.3 million, ahead of studio expectations. The film scored an A Cinemascore, a 52% Recomend from PostTrak and a 3.2 on Letterboxd. Anyone But You followed with a $6.2 million debut. It received a B+ Cinemascore, and 3.2 on Letterboxd. Sallar: Part 1 – Ceasefire rounded out the Top 5, debuting to $5.5 million from 796 theaters. The Iron Claw debuted in 6th, grossing $5.1 million. It received an A- Cinemascore (the highest for A24), a 72% Recommend from PostTrak and a 4.0 on Letterboxd.
Poor Things expanded to 800 theaters, grossing $2.1 million. Its domestic total now stands at $5 million. American Fiction expanded to 33 theaters, taking in $448k. All of Us Strangers debuted in 4 theaters with $132k, a $33k pta.
