We’re only two weeks in to the “Married At First Sight” experiment and viewers are already itching to know which couples will make it through until the end. While we have high hopes for some budding romances, others have been explosive.
Issues are bubbling up for several couples. Jesse suspects Claire may have cheated on him with fellow groom Adam. Shannon told Caitlin that he’s still in love with his ex-fiancée. And two of the grooms have been accused of gaslighting and emotional abuse. Again, it’s only week two!
The show was filmed months ago and is a hot topic across the country, so as you can imagine, wild stories about the cast are making the rounds online. From partner swapping and new relationships, we’ve heard it all already.
While the show has only just begun, here’s what we’ve learnt about the couples so far:
Lyndall and Cameron
Australia has been rooting for Lyndall and Cam ever since the first episode aired. Their wedding was like a fairy tale, and it’s clear to see that these two have instant chemistry, like something straight out of “The Notebook”.
The pair seem perfect for each other, and on the show, we are yet to see Lyndall and Cameron have any issues.
But rumours are circulating that the couple might not last after Lyndall was linked to another groom. The Daily Mail Australia reports that the bride has had “a secret tryst” with Joshua, who is paired with Melissa on the show. The pair are alleged to have “hooked up” at a post-finale party in December.
To add further speculation to the rumours, the couple haven’t been seen together in months. Cam has been spotted multiple times in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, but Lyndall has remained in Perth.
Melissa and Josh
Melissa and Josh were off to a good start until the couple hit confessions week. Melissa hasn’t been shy in communicating how important sex is for her in a relationship, but it seems to be a problem for Joshua.
Fed up with his wife always prioritising sex in their relationship, Joshua told Melissa that there is more to a relationship than just sex. He accused her of not showing any interest in him — a point proven when he asked her what he does for a living and she was unable to answer. The fight culminated with Melissa taking sex off the table for a week to get to know each other better.
While they are still together on the show, reports linking Joshua to Lyndall suggest that they might be over.
Bronte and Harrison
It’s not looking good for Bronte and Harrison. Not only are the pair constantly bickering, Harrison has also been accused of seeing another woman in the real world.
Things got worse on their honeymoon. After the couple had sex for the first time, Harrison said that he was no longer attracted to Bronte, and that having sex changed how he felt about her.
Fast-forward to the first dinner party and Bronte was left in tears. The bride told Harrison she was having doubts about their relationship, which prompted the groom to accuse her of not putting any effort into their relationship.
At this stage, even though Bronte and Harrison have had some serious fights and are living in separate apartments, they are still together. While we are almost certain the pair aren’t currently together, it’ll be interesting to see how things pan out on the show.
Claire and Jesse, Janelle and Adam
“MAFS” is no stranger to a cheating scandal, and the issue seems to have reared its head once again. The so-called scandal rocked the experiment after Jesse accused ‘wife’ Claire of having secret phone calls with fellow groom Adam.
According to Jesse, he’d seen the pair flirting at group drinks, watched them both leave the venue, and then caught Claire on the phone to someone who Jesse believed sounded like Adam in the early hours of the morning.
Jesse then said that he’d confronted his ‘wife’ over the phone call, before storming over to Janelle and Adam’s apartment and demanding to look at Adam’s phone.
While nothing has been confirmed — or denied — yet, it looks like a bombshell could be coming. Will this be a make or break moment for these two couples?
In an explosive sneak peek for the season’s first commitment ceremony, Lyndall has some jaw-dropping news about this alleged cheating scandal.
“Adam turned to me and he said, ‘I’m gonna go home with Claire’,” Lyndall tells the group, who are shocked to the core. Only time will tell if these couples will make it through, but it’s not looking good.
Sandy and Dan
It was a nervous first meeting between Sandy and Dan at their wedding, but once they relaxed further into the night, the newlyweds were off to a good start.
So far, the couple have been getting along like a house on fire, but The Daily Mail Australia spotted Dan making out another woman. Oh, and she also happened to be one his guests at their “MAFS” wedding. Like we said earlier, the gap between the show being filmed to actually going to air is months apart, and it appears these contestants aren’t doing a great job of keeping things low-key.
Call us suspicious, but something tells us Sandy and Dan don’t make it as a couple.
Tahnee and Ollie
Tahnee and Ollie are the youngest couple in this year’s experiment. Both are old souls with traditional views of relationships, and they might be the only couple we are (almost) certain makes it all the way.
Tahnee and Ollie were beaming at each other from the second they met at the alter, and it’s clear to see there’s an instant attraction between the couple. We’ve watched the pair continue to bond over their mutual interests, and their connection seems to growing stronger each time.
On the show, the pair are still together, having just moved in together, and we believe they are still together now on the outside.
Caitlin and Shannon
We don’t have high hopes for Caitlin and Shannon, TBH.
Everything was smooth-sailing journey for the couple until the photo ranking challenge, which saw them hit their first hurdle. The groom ranked her second, but then decided that he wanted to reshuffle things, and bumped her down to third place.
But that wasn’t the end of the couple’s struggles.
Shannon recently admitted on the show that he’s still in love with his ex. We know, right? Why would you go on a dating show if you still had feelings for an old flame?
Caitlin was left reeling after she overheard her ‘husband’ having an “emotional phone call” with his ex-fiancée.
When she confronted Shannon about the call, Shannon admitted that he was “still thinking” about his ex.
“I hate the fact that I say this, but I still love her,” he confessed. “… I just feel like I’m leading two people on.”
While the pair are still together in the experiment, we don’t think it lasts.
Duncan and Alyssa
We are also rooting for Duncan and Alyssa to make it all the way!
As soon as they met on their wedding day, sparks began to fly.
Alyssa called Duncan gorgeous, and Duncan felt an instant connection with Alyssa and was equally blown away.
The pair had a minor hiccup during confessions week when Alyssa told Duncan she had been the ‘other woman’ in the past. The groom was initially shocked by Alyssa’s confession, but they eventually agreed to move past it.
Things are back on track for now, we hope that these two can continue to grow their relationship.
Melinda and Layton
On paper, Melinda and Layton seem to be a perfect match, sharing similar values of ambition, drive, and success,
However, when they first met, Melinda was instantly put off by Layton’s physical appearance, and suspects his smooth chat and impeccable presentation is a façade.
Melinda made her distaste clear to her bridesmaids, and despite everyone at the reception really liking Layton, she was already refusing to give him a chance.
While the pair seem destined to breakup, they’re still in the experiment and working to see if there’s literally anything possible between them.
