The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a stacked line-up of upcoming films. Entering Phases 5 and 6 are films that will take the multiverse saga to the next level. While Marvel Studios is looking at the release of The Marvels, Sony Pictures Entertainment is set to foray further into Spider-Man characters with Kraven The Hunter. These are just two out of a long list of highly anticipated projects that were announced as part of an ambitious slate (we aren’t even getting into the many shows promised). If you have trouble keeping track, you’ve come to the right place.
Here are all the upcoming Marvel movies at varying stages of development:
Kraven the Hunter
After Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, a brand new Spidey villain is getting a solo live-action film. Kraven the Hunter is the first movie based on the fan-favourite character and member of the Sinister Six. The film will follow Aron Taylor-Johnson who will play Sergei Kravinoff, a Russian immigrant who has a talent for hunting. Along with the villain’s origin story, it will also set up the backstory of The Rhino. The cast includes Russel Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola and Arianna DeBose, among others. The R-rated film is expected to release on October 6.
The Marvels
Captain Marvel is all set to return to the MCU with The Marvels. The film will see Brie Larson’s Carole Danvers team up with Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. The film is set in the present day of the MCU and will see the all-female trio in an adventure between Earth and space. It ties into WandaVision, the show that introduced Parris and Ms. Marvel which introduced Vellani to the film franchise. We also know that Park Seo-joon is starring in the film. The trailer had a brief glimpse of the Korean star in a dance sequence. The film arrives in cinemas on November 10, 2023.
The Marvels makers talk about Park Seo-joon’s character: “He’s a definite ally to Carol Danvers”
Deadpool 3
The long-awaited Deadpool 3 will not only mark the return of Ryan Reynolds as the “merc with the mouth” it will also see him team up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The film’s teaser almost broke the internet as the stars got together to announce the film. More recently, images from the sets of the film saw Jackman in Wolverine’s classic yellow suit, hinting at a comic-accurate portrayal of the character. Fans have been vying to see the actor return to the MCU. Much isn’t known about the film but we do know that anything is possible.
Captain America: Brave New World
After Avengers: Endgame, the mantle of Captain America went to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson or The Falcon. The film will be set in the post-blip world. It will pick after the events of the Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which saw Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier unite for an adventure. The film will further flesh out the new Cap’s journey. It also features Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross. The release date for Brave New World is set to July 26, 2024.
Thunderbolts
Everyone loves a villain team-up and that’s precisely what Thunderbolts promises. The film will see a crossover of several MCU antagonists. While there is no confirmation of the casting, the characters will include Bucky Barnes. Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov, John Walker aka US Agent. Hints of the gang coming together have been scattered all over the MCU with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine recruiting the bad guys.
Blade
Back in 2019, Kevin Feige announced that Mahershali Ali would star as the vampire hunter in the MCU’s Blade. However, the film’s production has faced a slew of delays including rewrites. Slated to release on February 14, 2025, the film is much-awaited by fans who have been clamouring for a Blade film since the film franchise ended in 2004. The character had a voice cameo in Eternals.
Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four is perhaps the most requested film by Marvel fans. Attempts to make the movie have failed in the past but now it looks like the film will arrive in Phase 6. Hopes are at an all-time high after John Krasinski made a jaw-dropping cameo as Reed Richards in Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen-led Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, he was a variant who was killed swiftly. It remains to be seen what Marvel will do with the property. The film drops on May 2, 2025.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
The next Avengers film on the line-up of Phase 6 will be The Kang Dynasty releasing on May 1, 2026. Little is known about the film, but we do know that Jonathan Majors will play Kang the Conqueror. The character was a major player in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which delved deeper into the multiverse. Before that, we’ll also see Majors play a part in the upcoming Loki Season 2.
Avengers: Secret Wars
Among the many delayed MCU projects is Avengers: Secret Wars. The film is another crossover project that could have major implications for the MCU as we know it. With tonnes of cameo possibilities, nothing is off the table for this film should it get made. For now, the release date is set for May 7, 2027.
Madame Web
Sony’s Spider-Man universe is getting its first female-led origin film titled Madame Web. The film will reportedly feature Dakota Johnson as the titular character Cassandra Webb, a visually impaired clairvoyant. The character is an ally of Spider-Man. The film’s cast line-up which was announced recently also includes Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott and others. The film is expected to release on February 16, 2024.
The list goes on with several films that are yet to be announced like Armor Wars, Spider-Man 4, Shang-Chi 2, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Spider-Women and more.
