Half of the year has just passed by. There are more than 100 web series that are released every year, but we always wonder what we should watch every weekend. The year started with Bhuvam Bam’s web series Taaza Khabar with Raj & DK’s Farzi starring Shahid Kapoor (who made his OTT debut) became a hot topic for the audience, the year also showed us Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur collaborating for the Indian adaptation of the popular series The Night Manager and gave us the renewal of the popular thriller series Asur starring Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti. We were also transported back to the 50s of Indian cinema with Vikramaditya Motwane’s Jubilee, where we met the popular hero ‘Madan Kumar’.

Let’s revisit the year and take a look at some of the most trending Hindi series of the year.

Taaza Khabar

Taaza Khabar is the story of Vasant “Vasya” Gawade, a sanitation worker who discovers a mystical boon that can predict the future and make miracles in his life and the lives of those around him.

Based on the book Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy authored by Neelam Krishnamoorthy and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy, the series follows the difficult yet resilient journey of two parents – Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy who are trying to seek justice over the last two decades.

Based on the popular Spanish series, Elite, Class follows three friends from the working class, Dheeraj, Saba, and Balli, who are given the opportunity to attend Hampton International, a prestigious private school in New Delhi when their neighbourhood school is completely destroyed by fire. The Ahuja Properties, the ones responsible for the fire, are funding the scholarships. The three are originally shunned by affluent students while attending Hampton International. But as the school year goes on, their lives become intertwined in a conflict of sexual attraction, envy, and way of life.

Farzi

Farzi centres around Sunny, a disillusioned artist who becomes disheartened by the rampant income inequality in India, particularly after his grandfather’s revolutionary printing press succumbs to financial ruin. Determined to take matters into his own hands, Sunny forms an unlikely alliance with his best friend Firoz to delve into the world of counterfeit money production. However, their audacious venture encounters formidable obstacles in the form of Mansoor, a ruthless gangster, and Michael, an astute cop. 

The Night Manager

An Indian adaptation to a British series of the same name, The Night Manager follows Shaan Sengupta, an ex-soldier, who must infiltrate Shaildendra ‘Shelly’ Rungta, an arms dealer’s inner circle to bring down his empire of war.

The Romantics

The series was filmed over the course of three years by Smriti Mundra, who also directed A Suitable Girl and Indian Matchmaking. This documentary project features interviews with 35 of Bollywood’s film stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salim Khan, Sooraj Barjatya, Anil Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor, Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit, Neetu Singh, Anushka Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Uday Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and Rani Mukerji. Rocket Boys 2

Yeh Meri Family Season 2

Yeh Meri Family 2 is set in the ‘winter of the 90s’ and centres on the Awasthi family.
