In December of each year, Time magazine reveals their choice for Person of the Year.
In the days leading up to the choice, Time also reveals a shortlist of 10 contenders, all of whom could be named to the honor. Often, the choice is controversial and features varying political figures with agendas that many do not agree with. For example, Donald Trump was named Time‘s Person of the Year in 2016.
This year is no different, as there are some polarizing figures on this list. There are, however, some strong candidates and groups listed as well. The choice will be revealed on Wednesday (December 7).
