After dealing with the infamous queue-skipping incident last year during the British Queen’s funeral, apparently ITV’s second favourite bestie couple (after Ant and Dec) are no longer on speaking terms off-screen.
We start with Phil returning from a hiatus after his brother was convicted with sexually abusing a minor, and Holly returning from being ill with shingles. On Thursday, TV viewers noticed that there was ‘tension’ between them during the live episode of daytime show This Morning. Then, it escalates.
Phil is speaking directly to The Sun, and Holly is speaking through sources in the Daily Mail.
Phil’s team released a statement saying the following: “the last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us. As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.”
Meanwhile, Holly’s ‘sources’ in the Mail say she was “upset that she heard from a third party about his brother’s child sex case… friends say she felt ‘betrayed’ and was ‘surprised and sad’ that Schofield released an extraordinary statement where he confirmed their friendship had been under strain recently.”
Sources also say the following: “ Holly adores This Morning and for the first time in 14 years she has made it clear that should Phil ever leave, she would want to stay. They are separate entities. Behind the scenes, their relationship has cooled.”
Since there are no previous posts explaining why this is making the news, I’ll add three more things for context:
The Independent published a very thorough timeline of events leading up to this, highlighting rifts between Holly and Phil (and other ITV presenters).
There was a blind item back in 2020 about an older actor preying on young TV interns; it heavily hints at it being Philip Schofield. Despite it being circulated around on sites such as Twitter and Digital Spy every time Phil is in the news without fail, the British media still haven’t mentioned this in any way whatsoever; allegedly this is due to a super injunction.
There is also the pointed remark that Joe Lycett made on his Friday night show on Friday 7 April that references the blind item. Joe said, “This next bit is named after a phrase you often hear screamed behind the scenes of This Morning, because it’s called Finish Me Off.” Rylan, an occasional presenter on This Morning, said nothing and covered his face.
