During a recent Q&A session at Texas Frightmare Weekend (via Creepy Catalog), horror icon John Carpenter revealed that he can’t answer any fan questions about his cult classic horror film The Thing, hinting that The Thing 2 may finally be happening in the near future.

“I have been sworn to secrecy, okay, because there may be, I don’t know if there will be, there may be a Thing 2,” Carpenter said.

What is The Thing about?

The Thing was directed by Carpenter, based on John W. Campbell Jr.’s novella Who Goes There? The sci-fi horror film starred Kurt Russell, A. Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, David Clennon, Keith David, Richard Dysart, Peter Maloney, Donald Moffat and more. Written by Bill Lancaster, the story centered around a group of American researchers along with a helicopter pilot in Antarctica as they suddenly find themselves in terrifying situation after encountering a mysterious creature who can transformed into the shape of its victims.

When it made its theatrical debut in 1982, the film garnered negative reviews with domestic gross of over $19 million against a reported budget of $15 million. However, the film later on became a cult classic favorite thanks to its home video release.
