We only utilize fact-checkers who are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. TRUE Did he say it? At a campaign rally in Dayton, Ohio, on March 16, 2024, former U.S. President Donald Trump said: “Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.”

Snopes.com rating: Correct Attribution (The evidence suggests that Trump was using “bloodbath” in a metaphorical sense to describe a severe economic downturn rather than predicting or inciting actual violence.)

Claim via Social Media: Benzene in benzoyl peroxide-containing skincare products poses a cancer risk.

Health Feedback rating: Unsupported (The observation that certain skincare products produced high levels of benzene involved storage at elevated temperatures of 40, 50 and 70°C for several days to weeks. These conditions don’t represent how people typically use and store skincare products.

Insufficient evidence for the claim that benzoyl peroxide in skincare products poses cancer risk

FALSE Claim via Social Media: “300,000 illegal immigrants were able to use a simple app to get a free flight to our country.”

PolitiFact rating: False (In 2023, the Biden administration let in about 327,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela through a parole program. People granted parole do not receive free flights to the U.S. They buy their own plane tickets.)

FALSE Claim via Social Media: TikTok was banned on March 13, 2024.

USA Today rating: False (There was no ban as of the date of this post. The House of Representatives passed a bill that day that could effectively ban TikTok, but the Senate had not yet voted on the measure and President Joe Biden had not signed it.)

FALSE Claim by Donald Trump (R): “In February alone, nearly 1 million jobs held by native-born Americans disappeared.”

PolitiFact rating: False (The number of “jobs that disappeared” is less than a half million for February. It’s common for the metric Trump used to show a large decline in jobs during the year’s first two months, because it is not adjusted in a way that smooths out regular seasonal cycles of employment.
