The Bristal at Lynbrook, a senior living residence, has completed a refresh that includes updated shared spaces and the addition of a “BrainFit Gym,” a dedicated wellness space that is designed to support cognitive and physical wellness.
Renovations include refreshed interiors and library, an updated dining venue and redesigned common areas. The enhancements were put in place to create a more modern and cohesive environment while supporting residents’ engagement, comfort and daily activities.
The BrainFit Gym is designed to support healthy aging through interactive activities and equipment that engage memory, processing speed, reaction time, executive function and physical movement. Here, residents can participate in programs that promote mind and body wellness as well as social interaction and engagement.
Supporting brain health in older adults is key to preventing cognitive decline, according to the National Institutes of Health.
“At The Bristal, we’ve identified an important opportunity: translating what researchers are discovering about neuroplasticity and dual-tasking into programs that may help slow the progression of cognitive decline and support more stable brain function in our senior population,” Evan Rossi, corporate director of program innovation and engagement at The Bristal, said in a written statement about BrainFit Gym in November.
In Lynbrook, residents also have access to technology-based wellness tools in partnership with Brainnovation Network, a Canadian-based brain-health organization. The additions include a ShiftWave Chair and Red Light Helmet, which have been incorporated into the BrainFit Gym to support resident wellness and cognitive engagement.
B2K Development, the Jericho-based real estate development firm that founded The Bristal Assisted Living in 1997, led the Lynbrook location’s refresh. With 26 locations in Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties, as well as in New Jersey and Manhattan, The Bristal offers independent living, assisted living and memory care services.
