New ‘Indiana Jones’ Trailer Explains What the Dial of Destiny Is

    [ad_1]

The fifth (and supposedly finalIndiana Jones is titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of DestinyBut what is the Dial of Destiny? This isn’t the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail, world-famous artifacts of religious history. It’s not even a crystal skull, a famous object of legend and alien conspiracies, plus Dan Aykroyd’s premium spirit business. So what the heck is it?

Well, the latest trailer for the latest Indiana Jones finally gives us at least a little semblance of its background. “In 213 B.C.,” Harrison Ford’s Indy says, “Archimedes sculpted the dial.” (If you feel like reading up on the Greek inventor and astronomer Archimedes, you can read his Wikipedia page — although there’s no mention of a dial of destiny on there at the moment.)

“It could change the course of history,” adds Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena Shaw. And given that this movie’s subject matter and themes — with Indiana Jones ready to retire when he’s called back for one more adventure — we‘re guessing she means that literally.

There are also several new posters for the film advertising the various premium formats it’s going to be screening in, including IMAX and Dolby Cinema. But this one is clearly the best.

Indiana Jones Meets His Destiny in New Super Bowl Trailer

“My memory’s a little fuzzy … are you still a Nazi?”

That’s quite a quintessential Indiana Jones line — especially when it’s followed by Indy socking a dude in the jaw — and it’s the centerpiece of the new Super Bowl trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of DestinyThe fifth film in the long-running franchise features Harrison Ford back once again as everyone’s favorite (only?) cinematic archaeologist. And this film appears to be set in at least two different time periods, with uncanny de-aging technology used to turn the 80-year-old Ford into his younger self from around the period when he made the classic Indiana Jones movies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade. (You will note I did not mention the fourth, not-classic Indiana Jones movie.)

The new trailer is pretty short, so it doesn’t give away much of the story, but it features glimpses of a few scenes we haven’t seen before, including more shots of the young Indiana Jones, which look pretty incredible. Check out the new Super Bowl ad for Dial of Destiny below:

Here is the film’s official synopsis:

Harrison Ford returns as the legendary hero archaeologist in the highly anticipated fifth installment of the iconic “Indiana Jones” franchise, which is directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”). Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”), Shaunette Renee Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Oliver Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”). Directed by James Mangold, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, is once again composing the score.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled to open in theaters on June 30.

Harrison Ford insists there is only one Indiana Jones — him. And the trailer for the upcoming fifth film in the franchise sort of proves his point. It has an Indy who’s roughly Harrison Ford’s age — namely 80 years old. And then it also includes scenes with a younger Indy, who is played by … Harrison Ford. (His face was de-aged using fancy special effects.)

The trailer for this fifth Indiana Jones is here, and it reveals the film’s full title: It is called Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The trailer doesn’t indicate what the Dial of Destiny actually is, but it features plenty of action, a fair amount of whip cracking, and an appearance by Indy’s old pal Sallah, played by John Rhys-Davies. Take a look:

Here’s a better look at that de-aged Harrison Ford. (It looks pretty good, at least as a still photo.)
