  • Victoria Beckham Confesses to a Fashion Faux Pas

    [ad_1]

Fake it until you make it. This mantra, popularized by the culture of personal development on social media, was already being applied by Victoria Beckham in the early 2000s. This Wednesday, in an interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the designer was as comfortable as she was amused. On the pink armchair, the former Spice Girl sets herself free: each anecdote is more sincere, more piquant, more unexpected than the last.

Commenting on archival photos selected by the host, the Englishwoman paused on a photo of herself with husband David Beckham in the streets of London. In it, she wears an immaculate outfit and a Louis Vuitton bag that matches perfectly… or almost perfectly.

“It wasn’t a real Louis Vuitton bag,” she confessed. “We were shopping on Bond Street, and it was a fake.”

Marc Jacobs, the house’s artistic director at the time, contacted me after seeing the photo. He said, ‘I’ll send you a real one.’” Mischievously, she concluded with a pun on her long-ago nickname: “Not as posh as you think, Alex. Not all the time.”

Who could have imagined that Victoria’s bag was a counterfeit? At the time, no one would have dared. She was a Spice Girl, the wife of the world’s most famous footballer—the epitome of luxury and status. The story, then, reminds us that how people perceive us is often a question of looks, confidence, and what you project.

In the end, the anecdote speaks volumes about Victoria’s trajectory. By wearing the fake, she ended up invoking the real—and it worked. Since then, Victoria Beckham has built an empire at the helm of one of Britain’s most respected fashion houses. It seems almost unreal to think that the accomplished businesswoman she has become once felt the need for a fake bag to exist in conversation. And if we had to sum up her career, another mantra might be: Trust the process.

  • Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs Celebrate Their Very Stylish Friendship at the Venice Film Festival 2025

    [ad_1]

“I had met many great designers before, but he was different: he wore worn Stan Smiths, spoke naturally, loved the same bands and artists I did, and shared my same appreciation and sense of humor about the idea of being ‘feminine,’” Sofia Coppola writes of Marc Jacobs in the introduction to the 2019 book Marc Jacobs Illustrated.

You can tell: it was love at first sight between Coppola and the New York designer, an immediate connection. One of those bonds so instant and true that it seems almost the residue of another life; so predisposed, spontaneous, easy. Their friendship was so monumental to both of them that it inspired Coppola to direct a documentary about him, giving the world a glimpse at their megawatt friendship.

As previously announced, Marc by Sofia—that’s the film’s title, winking at the Marc By Marc Jacobs fashion line—will be presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival 2025 Tuesday. Rather than a classic celebratory biography detailing the designer’s (staggering) life and achievements, the film is presented as an intimate portrait of an unpretentious, straightforward friendship, which extended to an artistic and professional partnership. With Coppola behind the camera, audiences will be treated to a cinematic portrait created by someone who has known Jacobs since he was just a 29-year-old with a great passion for grunge.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Marc Jacobs burst onto the scene on November 3, 1992, when he was creative director of Perry Ellis—a brand carved out of practical American elegance—and decided to pay homage to Seattle’s vibrant grunge scene. He incorporated flannel shirts, plaid skirts, Dr. Martens, worn-out T-shirts, deliberately offbeat patterns, and wild hair into his designs. It was an aesthetic cataclysm that short-circuited the entire fashion establishment—and riled the likes of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, who reportedly burned samples out of disdain. Jacobs was fired on the spot. While the press railed against him, with fashion journalist Suzy Menkes at the forefront, high-profile fans began to emerge in support of Jacobs and his shocking presentation. For Gianni Versace, the collection “is fresh, very New York, and besides, he’s a very nice guy.” For Sofia Coppola, it is “an epiphany.”

And Now, the 6 Best Marc Jacobs Bags Money Can Buy

    [ad_1]

Undoubtedly, anyone claiming to be a part of the fashion set has likely watched one particular film: The Devil Wears Prada. We all have our favorite scenes from the flick, but for the sake of this story, only one is top of mind. About 38 minutes into the movie, Andy Sachs meets her boyfriend Nate and friends Lily and Doug at a bar bearing gifts. As she doles them out, she lifts a Marc Jacobs Mercer Blake bag above her head, to which Lily replies, “Gimme, gimme, gimme.” The film may have been fictional, but it encapsulated the fervor surrounding the brand at that time.

After all, back in 2006, everyone was hard-pressed to get their hands on a Marc Jacobs handbag—most were sold out everywhere and could only be spotted on the glitterati of the mid-aughts. And while we’ve moved on from that period, Marc Jacobs’s purses remain ever relevant. For years, we’ve seen various pieces from the label reach cult status. In honor of that, we’ve done a deep dive into the brand’s history to identify the 18 best Marc Jacobs bags. From archival versions to newly released pieces, these styles are sure to make you say “gimme” out loud too.

  • Marc Jacobs Model Tumbles Down Stairs For New Ad, Deserves a Raise

Marc Jacobs Model Tumbles Down Stairs For New Ad, Deserves a Raise

    [ad_1]

The Marc Jacobs marketing team is wild for this one. To advertise its new XL Sack Bag, the fashion label captured a model inexplicably tumbling down stairs while carrying the roomy tote — because posing for regular ol’ photo shoots is so last year, it appears.

In a now-viral video shared on Oct. 10, a brunette woman dressed in silver separates and Marc Jacobs’s towering seven-inch platform boots elegantly rolls down a flight of concrete steps, the white purse never leaving her shoulder. Upon reaching the bottom, she jumps to her feet, fixes her hair, and walks off frame without batting an eyelash. It’s chaos. It’s art. It’s a serve, your honor.

Now, before you get your panties in a bunch over Marc Jacobs treating its models like rag dolls, it’s worth noting that the woman in the video is a professional stunt performer named Tereza Kubová. Judging by her Instagram, she has lots of experience safely flinging herself around for various projects. Still, this doesn’t answer the question on everyone’s mind: why? Why use a model hurtling down a flight of steps to promote a new bag? To prove its durability and injury-thwarting properties?

Marc Jacobs provided no context or explanation while posting the video on Instagram, simply captioning it, “The XL Sack Bag,” and crediting art director Yulya Shadrinsky for shooting the clip. Upon further analysis, the “why” is actually quite clear. As Will Ferrell’s character famously says in “Blades of Glory,” “No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative . . . It gets the people going.” It’s meant to be wacky and catch you off guard.

Shadrinsky specializes in creating this type of unconventional, conversation-sparking content for fashion brands, previously making a model roll down a giant dirt pile for Jean Paul Gaultier and another karate kick a glass bottle for Alexander Wang. It’s genius marketing for an era when people live online and communicate via similarly meme-worthy clips. It got you reading to the end of this think piece on a designer handbag, after all.

  • I Attempted to Wear Olivia Rodrigo’s Infamously Tall, 7-Inch Platform Boots

I Attempted to Wear Olivia Rodrigo’s Infamously Tall, 7-Inch Platform Boots

    [ad_1]

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

Dua Lipa, Olvia Rodrigo, and Lady Gaga all posed in the Marc Jacobs Kiki platform boots, and upon first glance, my reaction was always the same: I wonder what it’s like to actually walk in those 7-inch heels? Well, reader, I tried the vertiginous heels on myself and at the most non-opportune time, too. I had just completed a 16-mile run before stepping into these monstrous shoes, which might have been foolish, but I had no other choice since I’m in the midst of training for a marathon. Nevertheless, I’m always up for a challenge, and I’d like to think strapping into these puppies with a giant blister on my big toe qualifies as such.

It is a costume shoe built for a celebrity — one who is spotted by body guards or assistants, and employs a driver to transport them from door to door.

To be candid, wearing this version of the infamous Kiki, which first debuted on the runway in 2016 and boasts a 4-inch platform (you do the math), is not easy. Though they’re equipped with five buckle straps, the thin strips of leather across the upper and around the ankle are no match for the 5-pound blocks they’re dragging along. The Kiki style is so tall (the tallest in Marc Jacobs platform history), that once you’re standing in them, the inevitable realization hits you: if you were to fall, you’d twist and probably break your ankle. Upon recognizing that fact, I immediately reached for support from the wall beside me — and also the ceiling. Because my tiny attic apartment would have it that, in the Kiki, I was a giant whose head skimmed the roof.

Ahead, see how I styled this viral, celebrity-favorite shoe, despite my fear of tripping and squashing one of my cats. Then, keep scrolling to shop it for yourself.

  • This Season’s Moody Makeup Delivers Glamour With Bite

This Season’s Moody Makeup Delivers Glamour With Bite

    [ad_1]

When the vampires are played by Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie—chiseled features, haute froideur—it’s hard not to side with the bloodthirsty. The Hunger, Tony Scott’s 1983 directorial debut, opens in a New York nightclub, as Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy sings the propulsive “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” The lovers select their prey: a sunglasses-at-night guy and a redhead with slashes of eyeliner and crimson lips. She dances, unaware that she exits the film in six minutes flat.

A speed-walking cast of models made a similarly fleeting appearance at Marc Jacobs’s fall 2023 show. The designer’s ode to the ’80s manifested as bleached wigs, cropped black stockings, a striped suit fit for Beetlejuice. But it was the drained faces and brusque red mouths, together with show notes credited to OpenAI and ChatGPT, that brought The Hunger to mind—as if updating the plot for an era of vampire electronics. “We wanted a futuristic vibe, so that’s why we went for that gaunt look,” says makeup artist Diane Kendal, who hollowed models’ eye sockets with gray shadows. (Her inspiration was 1982’s Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, Tony’s brother.) Kendal did dab highlighter on the cheekbones, nose, and tear ducts—“because you still want the girls to look beautiful, even though it’s not the most beautiful makeup.”

That impulse to veer into darkness is the order of the day, from Wednesday (slated for a poststrike return) to Olivia Rodrigo’s music video for “Vampire.” The lyrics lambast an ex (“bloodsucker, fame fucker”), and Rodrigo has bite, her oxblood lipstick offset by ethereal, glossy lids. Makeup artist Kathy Jeung wanted the pop star “to look powerful and vulnerable at the same time,” she explains. The “spidery, clumpy lashes” were Rodrigo’s idea, like tears hardened into spiky resolve.

Bakeup Beauty’s amped-up mascara, Tarantulash, creates exactly that effect. “I didn’t want it to be like ‘voluminous, feathery’ bullshit,” says cofounder and makeup artist Jo Baker, referring to the usual puffed-up marketing names. Hers is to the point. She teased it months ahead of launch, posting a photo of an orange-and-black tarantula alongside her two-tone Critics Choice makeup look for Natasha Lyonne. “This is not for the fainthearted,” Baker says of the fast-build formula that lasts. “I could be caught in the rain. I can have a full emotional meltdown, which, let’s be honest, can happen to any of us.”

That was unexpectedly the case for at least one damp-eyed guest at Rodarte’s fall 2023 show, where Tori Amos’s “Winter” accompanied the fantastically gloomy procession. (“Hair is gray and the fires are burning,” Amos soothsays from 1992.) Witchy liner, pictured above, set the mood, seen first with a suite of neo-Morticia black dresses. “We kept pushing it with early punk references and gothic fairy notes,” says James Kaliardos of the eyeliner shapes, which he sketched with a brow pencil for symmetry before inking with Nars’s Climax. “Though it’s hard to do, I know a lot of girls that want to rock this look.” Even that severe beauty statement found fanciful counterpoints: in Rodarte’s metallic fringe dresses and nearby tables set with glitter-covered feasts. The future, however uncertain, shines bright.

Bella Hadid made a ‘Bald and Beautiful’ comeback after Lyme Disease battle; Fans REACT

    [ad_1]

Bella Hadid, the supermodel, recently surprised everyone with her bold fashion transformation. She appeared in the Fall 2023 campaign for Marc Jacob’s brand called Heaven. Read on to know everything.

Bella Hadid made ‘Bald and Beautiful’ appearance

Here’s the twist: Bella was completely bald in her new look! Yes, you read that right. Bella Hadid, who is known for her beautiful brunette hair, decided to go bald for this photoshoot. Not only did she lose her hair, but she also left her clothes behind, making it a truly minimalist look.

Now, let’s be clear; we’re not entirely sure if this bald look is 100% real or if it involves some digital magic like CGI or Photoshop. It’s mostly said to be an AI-made look. However, in this alternative reality-like photoshoot, Bella Hadid rocked the ‘bald and beautiful’ like a true fashion icon, strikingly opposite from her usual appearance. This look marked her strong comeback from the long treatment for Lyme Disease.

Fans react to Bella’s bald look

Fans had mixed reactions to Bella’s new look. Some were amazed and praised her while others were too shocked to see her like this. One commented under the post, “Yessss proving you can be bald and beautiful is what it’s all about. We just need more representation and awareness to get it out there. Representation of bald beauty — it’s dope. From someone who lives this truth myself, bald beauty exists beyond extraterrestrial connotations or AI fantasies. Bald is beautiful too just say that 🗣️🌀💙,”

Another expressed shock, “What in the Splice (2009)”

While a third one said, “girl these prices really? 💀”

One person expressed, “No mens pieces? No male models? I like the bungee pants but I can’t even see a male silhouette in them.”

Hailey Bieber’s NYC Looks Are Proof That This Is the Only Color That Matters RN

    [ad_1]

I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing I enjoy more from the celeb set than when they go all out with a theme (I’m looking at you, Margot Robbie). And that’s exactly what Hailey Bieber’s done for the New York City press tour of her latest Rhode launch: the Strawberry Glazed Doughnut Peptide Lip Treatment designed in collaboration with Krispy Kreme.

For the trip—which included an event at the Krispy Kreme flagship store in Times Square, a stint on Good Morning America, a Ferrari-red Corvette convertible, and a helicopter ride—Bieber wore not one, not two, but three looks in a single day, all of which featured the color on everyone’s lips right now (just to clarify, I don’t mean the PLT, that’s clear): bright, fiery red.

First, she was spotted leaving the GMA offices wearing a drapey, red midi dress from Vivienne Westwood’s fall 2023 collection, paired with matching sky-high Maison Ernest sandals and Ferragamo’s buzzy Wanda bag. She then traveled downtown to TriBeCa, exiting her van in an equally drapey fall 2023 Marc Jacobs minidress in white, paired with the same Ferragamo top-handle bag and new Manolo Blahnik Maysale mules in the vibrant color. After a quick outfit change at Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s New York, one of NYC’s hottest new hotels, Bieber stepped out in a red, corset-style strapless minidress by Ermanno Scervino, styled with the same Maison Ernest heels from earlier in the day and a matching Courrèges bag. It’s as if she and her stylist, Dani Michelle, had a color palette in mind…

See every one of Bieber’s Strawberry Glazed Donut launch looks, all of which prove that the red trend from the fall/winter 2023 runways is here to stay, below.

Kim Kardashian Lounges in 9-Inch Platform Boots in New Marc Jacobs Campaign

    [ad_1]

Kim Kardashian may be teasing a new style direction in Marc Jacobs’s latest campaign. On Aug. 9, the multi-hyphenate was revealed as the new face of the brand’s fall 2023 ready-to-wear and accessories collection, trading her familiar bodycon dresses and latex outfits for playful patterns and unexpected footwear in imagery photographed by Tyrone Lebon.

Styled by Alastair McKimm, the mom of four wore a series of polka-dot print styles and classic Marc Jacobs pieces that were “reimagined for the everyday wardrobe” from the designer’s more dramatic, fall 2023 runway. In one photo, Kardashian is seen in a corset top, leather midi skirt, and several spotted accessories, including evening gloves, a beaded necklace, and a mini bag. Most notably, though, she completed the look with the brand’s popular Kiki platform boots, which tower at nine inches tall. (It’s not often Kardashian is spotted in such daring, edgy heels.)

In another snap, she lounged against an inflatable version of the boot wearing an oversize puffer with giant polka dots and a matching skirt. Kardashian also posed with the designer’s iconic tote bag in a peplum-style denim jacket with polka-dot print gloves underneath.

While some fans are confused by Kardashian’s latest campaign given her usual fashion, the Skims founder quite recently made a splash in a similar outfit from the Fendi x Marc Jacobs resort 2023 collection. Stunning in pieces from the special capsule line in May, she wore a white cropped corset top with a light denim midi skirt, accessorizing with white leather opera gloves and a giant fur hat.

  • My Favorite Ludicrously Capacious Bags

    My Favorite Ludicrously Capacious Bags

    [ad_1]

“Why? Because she’s brought a ludicrously capacious bag. What’s even in there, huh? Flat shoes for the subway? Her lunch pail? I mean, Greg, it’s monstrous. It’s gargantuan. You could take it camping. You could slide it across the floor after a bank job.”

Ah, Cousin Greg. Succession’s ultimate himbo who just can’t seem to dovetail into the corporate conglomerate world no matter how hard he tries. In Season 4’s debut, Cousin Greg (Nicolas Braun) brings a date to Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) birthday party…big mistake for one half of The Disgusting Brothers.

The issue Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfayden) has with Greg The Egg’s Tinder date, Bridget, isn’t that he’s jealous…it’s that she’s clearly trying too hard to fit in. Tom delivers the most iconic quip about poor Bridget’s Burberry tote that she probably wore because it was the most expensive thing in her closet. However, anyone sickeningly wealthy could tell you she obviously made the wrong choice.

The Burberry Vintage Leather Check Satchel Bag may be valued at around $2,900, but we live in a world of Birkins. While Bridget’s tote may have been the talk of the party if she hung out with me, it was an eyesore amongst the likes of the Roy family. Do you think Gerri would be caught dead with a vintage Burberry as opposed to Gucci’s understated Jackie?

@ikeacanada The OG ludicrously capacious bag. #whatseveninthere#SuccessionHBO#quietluxury#stealthwealth#ludicrouslycapacious#IKEACanada#IKEA#Trend♬ original sound – SSENSE

To the upper echelons of society, there’s no worse crime than sporting a tote bag to a high society function. What could you possibly need in your bag besides your black card and perhaps a mirror? A clutch certainly would’ve been more suitable.

But surely Shiv (Sarah Snook) doesn’t carry a bag so large that it could be used to complete a heist during her father’s birthday (if she were to show up). And would Roman (Kiernan Culkin) or Kendall (Jeremy Strong) be caught dead with such a crass woman?

But let’s be honest here, Tom Wambsgans. There is nothing more satisfying than a Mary Poppins-esque bag. What if my makeup runs midday and I need a touchup? What’s going to hold a towel, a change of clothes, and my water bottle on the beach?

    @chargers a ludicrously capacious bag
    ♬ original sound – SSENSE

Ludicrously capacious bags serve both men and women. My gargantuan bag indeed carries my lunch pail, a sweater in case the office gets cold, flat shoes for the subway, and I’d probably store egregious amounts of cash in it if I had the access.

There’s nothing more satisfying than running errands and having my hands free. If I can make multiple stops only using my gigantic tote bag, then I consider it a success.

And while a tote bag may not be the most functional “going out bag,” it certainly serves its purpose at all other hours of the day. If you’re in the market for the nightmarish, ludicrously capacious bag, here are some of my favorites:
