  • Gwen Stefani accused of ‘MAGA makeover’ after promoting Lent prayer challenge

Gwen Stefani is facing both backlash and praise after speaking out on faith.

As the pop icon promotes a 40-day Lent challenge on the prayer and meditation app Hallow, she’s facing accusations of undergoing a “MAGA makeover.”

“Hey everyone, I just got my ashes, and I’m ready for Lent. This year, I’ll be doing Hallow’s 40-day Lent Prayer Challenge. It’s going to be incredible. Check it out. God bless,” Stefani says in the ad, which has been widely shared on social media.

In another video she posted on Instagram on Ash Wednesday, the 55-year-old singer expressed her excitement for Lent and invited her 17.7 million followers to join her in the 40-day prayer challenge with Hallow.

Stefani’s boldness in stepping forward with her faith — and her decision to work with Hallow — has not come without controversy.

Stefani’s loyal fans appear divided on social media. Some have been cheering her on, but others are more critical, accusing her of abandoning her former “cool” image and diving headfirst into religious conservatism by partnering with the app, which has garnered criticism for its anti-abortion stance and its ties to conservative figures like Vice President JD Vance, who is an investor.

Another lamented, “Gwen Stefani’s MAGA downfall is soooo disappointing.”

“She ain’t no hollaback girl anymore … she has the maga makeover…” another comment read, as the user referred to one of her hit songs.

One person simply wrote, “Ugh canceled.”

Defenders have rushed to Stefani’s side, calling out what they say as hypocrisy from those criticizing her for her faith.

“If being religious is now a MAGA thing, then maybe we should start dragging all your favorites who also share faith,” one fan wrote.

Another fan hit back at the “MAGA” labeling, saying, “It’s a huge disservice when we label people who just want to stay out of the political moment. Gwen represents millions who don’t fit into these boxes. We should be careful.”

  • ‘Real Housewives’ star accused of running cult-like church operation, ex-members allege financial exploitation

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Reality star Mary Cosby’s TV fame now collides with serious allegations in a new TLC docuseries that examines claims of cult-like behavior inside the church she leads with her husband.

The three-part series, “The Cult of the Real Housewife,” investigates Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, exploring claims of spiritual manipulation, financial pressure and emotional control that former members say unfolded behind closed doors.

The docuseries traces Faith Temple’s roots to its founding by Rosemary “Mama” Cosby, Mary’s grandmother, who was widely revered within the congregation.

Following the death of “Mama” Cosby, leadership of the church passed to her husband, Robert Cosby Sr. — Mary’s step-grandfather — whose later marriage to Mary sparked controversy and marked what critics described as a dramatic shift in the church’s culture.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mary Cosby for comment.

Mary’s cousin Dan Cosby told Fox News Digital that what he witnessed inside Faith Temple fundamentally altered his trust in church leadership.

“How he would do it, how he would use his form of authoritarian-style of leadership and how he would talk to other brothers in the church … pitting them against me or against other members,” Dan said, referring to Robert Cosby Sr. “I wasn’t the only one. There are others that left because they saw the writing on the wall.”

Dan said the behavior felt unpredictable and deeply unsettling, particularly because it often appeared calculated.

“There’s two sides of Robert… almost a double personality,” Dan said. “You just see his true form come out — a total Jekyll-and-Hyde … He would preach and actually call out people in the church and ridicule them … it was just embarrassing.”

Over time, Dan noted, the behavior escalated to public humiliation during church services.

“You were just afraid to leave. People were afraid of leaving,” he said. “This is detrimental to people.”

For Dan, his time at Faith Temple revealed what he describes as a disturbing pattern of abuse masked as spiritual guidance. He said that church leadership frequently exploited members’ faith to enforce obedience and loyalty.

“You were just afraid to leave. People were afraid of leaving. This is detrimental to people.”

In the docuseries, Dan alleged he endured physical punishments and witnessed abuse as a child — including kneeling on pins and needles and watching another child beaten. Robert Cosby Sr., a military veteran, is accused of shoving Dan during a prayer session, which Dan said became a turning point that prompted him to leave the church.

“To understand, I think that ‘The Cult of the Real Housewife’ points out trauma is real and that people will manipulate that and make you think that God is a certain way,” he told Fox News Digital. “They’ll put their own righteousness into what they believe.”

He cautioned that such manipulation can be subtle, making it hard for members to recognize that they are being exploited.

“I think this is bringing light to — people could be in a cult and not even realize that they’re in one,” he said.

Financial pressure was central to the alleged control, Dan said, with members shamed for failing to give.

“People could be in a cult and not even realize they’re in one.”

“It wasn’t necessarily what’s going to happen to you … but the pressure that you know you had to give more and [being told] ‘you’re cheap,’” he said.

Scripture was used to reinforce guilt, making members feel condemned.

“They would put all types of pressure related to scriptures,” he said, adding that members were made to feel condemned. “But when you involve your faith and when you think that you’re doing the right thing, and they put this guilty conscience on you that you are going to hell, damnation to you, that if you’re not going to give.”

Dan described one of the most damaging tactics as invoking the legacy of “Mama,” the church’s beloved founder, whose teachings emphasized personal faith and moral agency.

During Season two of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” a former church member named Cameron was introduced in what the docuseries describes as a deliberate attempt to expose Mary, showing viewers “who she really is and what she’s about.”

He said he took out a $300,000 second mortgage on his home and gave the money to Mary, highlighting the alleged financial entanglements involved.

This storyline played a key role in revealing tensions and controversies around Mary’s character and her dealings within the social circle depicted on the show.

Dan’s wife, Kim Cosby, told Fox News Digital she also endured a complex journey marked by faith, family struggles and painful divisions within her religious community.

In “The Cult of the Real Housewife,” she opened up about the emotional toll exacted by church teachings that demanded impossible choices — even between her husband and God.

“Extremely,” Kim told Fox News Digital when asked how damaging it was to be told to choose between her husband and God. “If I said I’m going to go home and cook… then I’m putting him above God.”

“It was always a competition … if I didn’t do what they said, then I’m putting my husband above God.”

    — Kim Cosby

She added, “It was always a competition … if I didn’t do what they said, then I’m putting my husband above God.”

“Mama” Cosby’s approach, Kim said, was one of unity and support — a stark contrast to the divisive tactics she claimed emerged after leadership changes within the church.

As painful as the past has been, Dan and Kim see signs of healing and hope in the present.

Reflecting on two decades marked by turmoil, Dan said, “After 20 years … this year, 2025, and with the help of ‘The Cult of the Real Housewife’ … my family — Kim, my daughters, my grandchildren — I am in their lives, and we are stronger than we’ve ever been.”

Still, healing is not simple or quick, Dan emphasized.

  • Bible-based diet could unlock the secret to lasting wellness, experts say

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Many people turn to the Bible for guidance in times of both triumph and hardship — but some say it can also serve as a guide for physical health.

Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin, co-authors of the book “The Biblio Diet,” believe that ancient foods of the Bible can be transformed into a modern dietary plan to enhance health and even help reverse life-threatening conditions.

“I think the Bible is the greatest health book ever written,” Axe, a doctor of natural medicine in Tennessee, told Fox News Digital in an interview. “If somebody’s dealing with any health condition, whether it’s depression, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, PCOS, infertility, hypothyroidism or low testosterone, the Bible has a solution. If you follow a diet based on the Bible, you can be made well.”

    Here are more details.

Faith and healing through biblical principles

Both Axe and Rubin have faced serious health challenges that deepened their faith and inspired their work, they said.

Rubin was diagnosed with Crohn’s colitis as a teenager, and later with severe cancer.

After visiting dozens of doctors with no success, he met a man who told him that if he followed a diet based on the Bible — proven through history and confirmed by science — he could be well.

“After another 40-day period of an upgraded diet — plus detoxification, and emotional and spiritual therapy — I overcame cancer that was referred to as terminal and did not undergo chemotherapy, radiation or additional surgeries,” Rubin told Fox News Digital.

KETO DIET HAS SURPRISING IMPACT ON MENTAL HEALTH, RESEARCHERS DISCOVER

Dr. Axe’s own journey began while he was helping his mother overcome breast cancer.

“I put together a program for my mom that included certain foods in the Bible, like pomegranate and olive oil — and also prayer, faith, praise and worship,” he said.

“I think the Bible is the greatest health book ever written.”

Later, when a medical procedure left Axe with a spinal infection, he again turned to a Bible-based diet and prayer, combining them with regenerative treatments to heal.

“I listened to the diagnosis of my great physician, not my ordinary physician,” the doctor said. “The great physician tells you to live with hope in all things and believe in the miraculous — and I did. Now I’m 100% healed.”

What a Bible-based diet looks like

Food is mentioned repeatedly in the Bible, and both authors believe the core foods discussed can form the foundation of a healthy modern diet.

Key examples include red meat, whole-grain sourdough bread, olive oil, dairy, fruits like pomegranates and figs, and natural sweeteners, such as raw local honey.

Red meat, the authors say, is a “superfood” that provides protein, creatine, glutamine, carnitine, zinc, iron and B6.

“If you look at the Bible’s longest-lived heroes, anytime they could afford red meat, they would consume it,” Rubin said.

RED MEAT CAN HELP YOUR MOOD IF PART OF A HEALTHY, BALANCED DIET, STUDIES SUGGEST

Bread, often demonized in modern diets, also plays a key role when prepared correctly.

“Properly sourced and properly prepared grains can be a part of a healthy diet,” Rubin said. “With Jesus being called the bread of life, it wouldn’t make sense if bread was bad for everyone. The way it’s processed and preserved matters.”

VIRAL MORNING WELLNESS ROUTINE PROMISES MORE ENERGY AND FOCUS BY NOON

Olive oil, frequently referenced in scripture, supports skin, metabolism and cardiovascular health. Dairy — particularly from sheep, goats or certain dairy cows — can also be beneficial.

“The land of milk and honey was not just a euphemism,” Rubin noted. “Dairy can be very healthy if it’s whole, raw and grass-fed.”

“Eat foods that God created and in a form that’s healthy for the body.”

Raw, local honey serves as a natural sweetener and immune booster, while unprocessed whole salt provides essential minerals. Avocados, figs and fresh fruits are other staples.

“Eat foods that God created and in a form that’s healthy for the body,” Rubin advised. “You can take red meat or an apple and make it unhealthy by how you grow, raise, process and prepare it.”

    Foods to consider avoiding

The authors argued that people should avoid foods labeled “unclean” in Leviticus — such as pork, shellfish and shrimp.

“Pigs, shrimp and other scavengers don’t have the system to properly process toxins,” Rubin said.

They also warned against modern processed foods, including those with high-fructose corn syrup, food dyes and refined sugars.

Even foods considered healthy can become harmful when overly processed.

“If Moses were here today, what would the food laws look like?” they ask in “The Biblio Diet” — encouraging readers to apply biblical principles to modern nutrition.

Fasting and other biblical health practices

Beyond food, Axe and Rubin highlight spiritual disciplines that impact both body and soul — particularly fasting.

“There’s no doubt that fasting is one of the greatest healing breakthroughs someone can experience,” Dr. Axe said.

Fasting can begin simply by avoiding food for a 10-hour window overnight, allowing the body to “clean up damaged cells, cancer cells, parasites and infections.”

“Fasting is one of the greatest healing breakthroughs someone can experience.”

He added, “There’s a lot of medical literature on it being the greatest thing you can do to reverse the aging process and activate longevity.”

For some, fasting can also bring spiritual clarity.

“I can tell you personally [that] spiritual growth [brings a] deeper connection to God [and] clearer thinking — the ability to hear God’s voice,” Dr. Axe said.

Olive oil is a key food noted in the Bible, and can be used in a variety of recipes.  (iStock)

Rubin agreed, emphasizing the importance of emotional healing as well.

“During my successful battle with cancer, I made spiritual health a priority,” he said. “I wrote out a prayer from the Bible and quoted it out loud three times a day — it was medicine to me.”

He also focused on forgiveness, calling it “essential” to his recovery.

    Best to consult multiple sources

The authors stressed that “The Biblio Diet” isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.

“It’s a great diet for everyone, but due to the number of health problems people have today, there is a level of customization that people can benefit from,” Dr. Axe said.

The diet, they noted, isn’t restrictive — it can even include waffles, pizza, cookies and ice cream made with wholesome, Bible-approved ingredients.

Rubin advises anyone facing health challenges to stay calm, seek peace and consult multiple sources.

“Take a deep breath. Believe that God has provided for your healing. Seek a second opinion, and most of all, do what you have peace about.”

Axe and Rubin view health as a form of worship, they said — a way to honor God through the body.

“I think God wants us to be excellent in everything we do,” Dr. Axe said.

“One of the greatest things we can do to influence others and let them see the truth of the Bible and what Jesus teaches is by being physically healthy.”
