  • Cleveland Independents Members Aiding Local Food Pantries With Donations, Canned Goods – Cleveland Scene

    Amid the current food crisis roiling across the nation and SNAP benefits that are slowly starting to trickle in after the government shutdown ended, the local restaurant organization Cleveland Independents is matching monetary donations to local food pantries from member restaurants while some members collect canned food.

    “We are in the food industry.  This is our way of stepping up to help those in need during these difficult times. This effort allows our members to give back to the communities that have supported us for so many years,” says Laurie Torres, Cleveland Independents’ President and owner of Mallorca Restaurant.

    Those looking to help can drop off canned goods at the following locations through next Thursday, Nov. 20.

    • Geraci’s-Pepper Pike
    • Lago-East Bank Flats
    • Luna Bakery & Café (The restaurant will also round up purchases for donations during this time)
    • Mallorca-Warehouse District/Downtown Cleveland
    • Rood -Lakewood
    • Sora-East Bank
    • The Woods-Rocky River

    Meanwhile, member restaurants below will be making donations that will be matched by Cleveland Independents.

    Cleveland Independents to Celebrate Cleveland Restaurant Week November 11-22

    This year, Cleveland Independents will celebrate its fall Cleveland Restaurant Week November 11-22. The biannual promotions are a wonderful way to return to old favorites or explore new restaurants.

    This time around, participating eateries will be offering three-course, prix-fixe dinners for $39. (Some restaurants might adjust that figure up or down.) Approximately 30 locally owned, independent restaurants are taking part. Many restaurants are also offering special carryout options, a feature that has endured since the Covid era.

    Cleveland Independents is urging high participation this year because many member restaurants are reporting lagging sales this summer. Combined with lingering post-Covid issues, restaurants are nowhere near back to pre-pandemic numbers.

    Cleveland Independents is one of the largest independent restaurant organizations in the nation. The mission of the organization is to educate the public about the importance of dining local while creating a community of like-minded restaurateurs.
