Sheriff deputies arrest man, loaded firearm found in vehicle: I-Team

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cuyahoga County sheriff officials arrested a 23-year-old man for several charges, including improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, after he was seen driving a stolen vehicle on Interstate 90 early Friday morning.

Jennifer Ciaccia, a county spokesperson, said deputies were positioned in the area of Dead Man’s Curve around 3:15 a.m. and attempted to stop the vehicle, which continued to accelerate.

“A vehicle pursuit was not initiated,” Ciaccia stated in a release. “The vehicle then ran over stop strips which had been pre-deployed by deputies. The vehicle was disabled and came to a stop.  The male driver of the stolen vehicle exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies established a perimeter and conducted a search with the use of a canine. The suspect was taken into custody a short time later.”

During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered a loaded firearm.

The suspect was arrested for failure to comply, obstructing official business, receiving stolen property and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Cuyahoga County jail.

Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department investigators will confer with the county prosecutor’s office. The matter remains under investigation.
