Rebel Wilson ‘abandons’ filming of new movie to cheer on Matildas

It was the moment that had Australia on the edge of our seats – including our celebs.

With our nation still reeling from the Matildas iconic penalty shootout last night, securing victory against France and a spot in the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, check out all the Aussie stars that were watching alongside us.

The Hollywood actress took a break from filming her latest movie Bride Hard in Savannah, Georgia in the US to come back home to Sydney to cheer on the Tillies.

Wilson, 43, made her way down to Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour to attend the FIFA Fan Festival and watch the match, taking place in Brisbane, on a large screen with countless other fans.

The Pitch Perfect actress and her friends were decked out in green and gold scarves, with the actress even preparing a green and gold onesie for her baby daughter, Royce.

While at the event, she also ran into and took a picture with Youri Djorkaeff, a French former professional footballer, who was presumably there to cheer on his own country’s team.

Cody Simpson

Aussie singer and swimmer Cody Simpson made his way to Brisbane to watch the iconic match in person with a few friends, though it seems he was not accompanied by his girlfriend, fellow Aussie swimmer Emma McKeon.

He was able to capture the nail-biting moment Cortnee Vine made that critical penalty shot that secured Australia’s place in semi-finals – he himself shouting into the camera – as well as the reaction of the entire stadium coming to life in celebration. “My mind is blown!! Craziest game ever,” he wrote.

Dylan Alcott, AO

Australian Paralympian Dylan Alcott also joined in on the fun, though he tuned into the match while on his phone at the MCG, watching Carlton play against Melbourne.

He did watch in on the TV while in the lounge with many others, who erupted in cheers during the historic moment.

“My god closest I’ve ever been to standing up!!!” he joked, “@matildas at the MCG. Nothing better!! Unbelievable effort!!!”

After attending her godson Otto Sandilands’ $25K birthday bash at her co-host Kyle’s Bellevue Hill home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, the radio host made her way to the Clovelly Hotel to watch the game, but not without an outfit change.

The 48-year-old wore a yellow dress to cheer on the Matildas, and cheer she did, hugging the person next to her and cheering with delight when the goal went in. “What an EPIC game,” she wrote.
