Happy Saturday, ONTD! Tonight we are starting our theme of “classic” movies with W.S. Van Dyke’s lovely 1934 film The Thin Man, starring William Powell and Myrna Loy.

Former detective Nick Charles and his wealthy wife Nora investigate a murder case, mostly for the fun of it.

As usual, we will be using Teleparty to watch and chat and will start around 9pm Eastern.
How to use Teleparty (Click on How It Works to read the directions. You will need to have Google Chrome installed to use the Teleparty extension)

I asked y’all for classic movie suggestions and you mentioned a lot! I’ve spent some time combing through the streaming services and putting together a list of your suggestions. It was my hope that we could find at least one or two films on Netflix so that more people could join. Unfortunately (though not particularly surprisingly) Netflix’s selection is abysmal. So abysmal it’s nonexistent. The upshot is that almost all of the classic movies we have to choose from are only on HBO Max. I found a few on Amazon Prime. I’ve put together a tentative schedule with movies from HBO and Prime. If there is a movie that fits the bill on either Netflix or Hulu, please let me know! I hate leaving people out but unfortunately Netflix is crappy. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Tentative schedule:

Saturday January 14: The Thin Man [HBO Max](1h 30m)
Saturday January 21: The Little Foxes [Amazon Prime] (2 hours)
Saturday January 28: The Wizard of Oz [HBO Max](1h 42m)
Saturday February 4: To Catch a Thief [Amazon Prime](1h 46m)

I’ve also included a list of your suggestions that are available to stream. I am more than happy to change our schedule if y’all prefer something else. I’ve included run times as well. Several of the movies suggested were longer than 3 hours. I am open to starting the watch party an hour or so early to accommodate those run times if y’all are interested.
