One person was killed in a plane crash Tuesday evening in the Riverside County community of Banning, fire officials said.

The incident was reported just before 6:30 p.m. south of the 10 Freeway near Hargrave Street and Malki Road.

A CalFire/Riverside County Fire Department map showed the incident location marked near the Banning Municipal Airport.

The small, unidentified plane reportedly caught fire and started a quarter-acre vegetation fire that was contained.

“The crash involved a single engine aircraft and 1 occupant perished in the incident,” Riverside County fire officials said in tweet.

The incident is under investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Federal Aviation Administration.
