Cincinnati police have confirmed the death of a mother and her two teenage sons in what they call a double murder-suicide.
Early Friday, police went to an Avondale home around 5:30 am and found the bodies of Eric Johnson Jr., 19, his 16-year-old brother Rodrigo Johnson and their 38-year-old mother, Darlene Flores, inside an Avondale home, the Cincinnati Police Department reported.
Authorities received a call for reports of a potentially dead person, Fox 19 News reported.
“When our officers arrived, three deceased individuals were found” with gunshot wounds, Lt. Jonathan Cunningham, a Cincinnati police spokesman, said.
A family relative told the news outlet, “This is all unexpected,” explained Bush. “This whole situation is unexpected. They all were grieving the best they could.”
The incident is connected to a 2022 murder-suicide of Eric Johnson, Sr., and his six-year-old daughter, Iyla Johnson.
Last year, Mt. Healthy police said Eric would not let his daughter go during a custody exchange, so he barricaded himself inside his apartment and eventually fired his weapon at officers.
Officers made their way inside and found both Eric and his daughter dead.
“It’s devastating. It’s devastating, I can’t even put the words together,” the relative added. “Plan Iyla’s funeral; help Darlene plan her funeral, and now, we have to turn around and bury her.”
