Richard Wilkins has spoken out about the fake photos of his “arrest” at Sydney Park, which have recently gone viral on social media.

“I have never been arrested,” Wilkins, who is Nine’s Entertainment Editor, told 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Ben Fordham Live! this morning.

Wilkins says that contrary to popular belief, he was not arrested, and has never been. The photos, he says, are AI-generated or photoshopped.

“I got arrested in London yesterday,” Wilkins sarcastically told Fordham, referring to another AI-generated image that has since gone viral.

”I don’t know what to do about it, this has been going on for some time,” he continued, noting how he has no idea why or how he’s been put at the centre of “all this”, with “this” including a false story circulating that he’s been charged by the Bank of Australia for giving out incorrect financial advice live on air alongside Karl Stefanovic on Today.

“It never happened,” Wilkins said of the Bank of Australia scam, noting how the transcript of the false Today segment provided “looks really legit” but the fabricated conversation did not actually occur.

“It’s complete BS,” Wilkins said. “The thought of anyone investing in anything because I was recommending it is quite disturbing, and I’d hate to think that that was happening.”

Wilkins says he doesn’t know what to do about it, and has had Meta staffers – the parent company of Facebook – as well as Nine Network’s lawyers involved for months, but it’s only “getting worse.”

“It’s a pain in the derrière,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins’ discussion with Fordham comes days after his son, Christian Wilkins, denied his father’s arrest took place.

”For those wondering, yes these posts are fake,” Christian wrote on his Instagram Story last week.

He joked: “There’s no way [Wilkins] would be seen not wearing skinny jeans.”
