CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Fox 8 I-Team has learned the Cuyahoga County Executive will be making a statement concerning the negotiations over the future home of the Cleveland Browns soon.

The team is considering massive renovations to the stadium or building a dome in Brook Park.

The Browns are expected to respond this week to the City’s offer of $461 million dollars over 30 years.

But last week the Browns released artist renderings of what a dome would look like. And, the team told season ticket holders, the more the Browns explored the Brook Park option, the more they like it. The Browns did not release renderings showing what a renovated stadium downtown would look like.

Cuyahoga County leaders released a letter they sent to Jimmy and Dee Haslam Sunday afternoon.

It reads, in part:

“Today we are writing to affirm our united commitment to keep the Browns in Downtown Cleveland for generations to come. The proposal to build a new stadium in Brook Park does not make fiscal sense for Cuyahoga County residents and taxpayers. Moreover, any proposal that would create an unacceptable risk to the County’s general fund cannot be considered. We believe it is our responsibility and in the best interests of our community to prioritize reinvestment in existing public assets.”

The letter continued:

“The team represents the heart and soul of Northeast Ohio and reinforces our community’s identity and pride. Browns fans have a deep-rooted emotional connection to the team’s rich history in Downtown Cleveland.”

County leaders are planning a press conference to discuss the letter on Monday afternoon.
