The planned upcoming Alien movie may have found its star, with Deadline reporting that Cailee Spaeny is in talks to play the lead role in a new film.

Spaeny — who is set to play Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming Priscilla — is currently in talks to star in the upcoming film that Fede Álvarez will direct. The new Alien film will be produced by Scott Free, although nothing concrete about the film is known as of yet, besides reports that 20th Century is looking to begin filming the project sometime next year.

Details are currently scarce, although it is said to be “unconnected” to previous films. A fan of the iconic franchise himself, Álvarez had pitched a film idea to Scott several years ago in a casual conversation. THR says that Scott called Álvarez last year to see if he was still interested and it was quickly set. 20th Century then picked up the film due to the strength of Álvarez’s pitch, as it was a “really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before,” according to 20th Century’s Steve Asbell.

Spaeny’s career in Hollywood is relatively young, but the actress has starred in a variety of high-profile films, including in 2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising and Bad Times at the El Royale. Besides Priscilla, Spaeny will also star in Alex Garland’s next film Civil War.
