Naomi Ackie Follows Maika Monroe to the ‘It Follows’ Sequel

After an extended detour to a suburban neighborhood filled with dinosaurs, director David Robert Mitchell is going back to his roots. Three years after it was first announced, we finally have some movement on They Follow, a sequel to the 2015 film It Follows, starring Maika Monroe, which is expected to shoot this summer.

Deadline reports that Naomi Ackie, currently seen in I Love Boosters, but probably best known for playing Lando’s (probable) daughter Jannah in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has joined the cast. There’s no word on who Ackie is playing or what, exactly, the movie is about, but the report adds the interesting tidbit that it’s set a decade after the events of the first film.

In that film, Monroe’s character Jay got involved with a supernatural presence that slowly and unrelentingly followed a person until they were dead. The only way the curse could be stopped was if you died or if you passed it along to someone else through sex. But when that person died, it reverted back to you. And, though Jay survived the end of the film, the evil following her did as well.

So has Jay survived this for 10 years? Did she figure out a way to pass the curse along? Also, the title certainly implies there is more than one person following now. How did that happen?

Well, it seems we’ll finally find out soon. News of They Follow first broke in 2023, but Mitchell went on to make The End of Oak Street, starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway. That’s finally coming to theaters in August, and when that’s out, it seems Mitchell, Monroe, and now Ackie will be back in this horrific world.

Are you excited to expand the world of It Follows with They Follow?
