Kirk Hammett showed up at a Metallica concert wearing a shirt that read “Taylor Swift Is a CIA Psyop,” according to Rolling Stone. The lead guitarist sported this garment on June 13 at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, and Swift fans weren’t having it.
The shirt displayed a caricature of Swift’s face with her eyes whited out. “Taylor Swift” sat on top while “Is a CIA Psyop” appeared below. His guitar hid the bottom text during the performance.
Swift fans unleashed their anger when photos hit social media. One user wrote, “Why are men incapable of being normal about her. they can’t just be indifferent, they have to be so loudly performative of their stance that always exposes how little research they’ve ever actually done on her.”
Another fan called the band has-beens. Yet Metallica’s sold-out tour in 2026 proves they’re still packing arenas.
The guitarist wasn’t attacking the pop star, according to Audiophix. The shirt pokes fun at celebrity worship and how society views famous people, not Swift herself.
Metallica still has some European tour dates left, and then it’s off to the States for a Vegas residency at the Sphere. All tour dates are on their website.
